I'll probably get lambasted for saying this, I'm sure, but I'd probably take having Ian back over getting Great back if I had to choose just because guard play means more in March.

IF Ian can be more consistent, he could be our #1 and be the MWC POY.

What a roller coaster, but glad to see Martinez back to an extremely high chance of returning!

@aggies22, could the return of Ian bring Great from EXTREMELY LOW to LOW or even MEDIUM ?? Or is the Ian return a non-factor??
I don't believe it's much of a factor.
Is Jaxon Smith staying? Seems weird he made the cut.
No sense in telling a walk-on you don't need him. Plus he's a good enough shooter that he can provide good scout team play.
Got it. Thought he was a scholarship guy.

I don't think that is a bad take. Ian when on was awesome last year. HIs problem was lack of consistency. If he improves upon that he can be a first team all MWC player.

Right, when Ian is on, he is brilliant. A Jordan Clarkson-esque scorer with elite athleticism.

That's what I observed. He almost over-deferred; he seemed frustrated when he did so and we didn't score. He's a talented player. I'd love to have him back.

It was hard for a lot of guys to get in a rhythm last year. Just stand around and watch Great. I think Josh and Ian have a lot of potential to improve with more movement and freedom with the ball.

That’s what I thought as well. When Brown and/or Great were off the floor, he would take over games.

Ian is awesome, he had a few slump games, but he himself can have a 10-0 run and force a timeout.

Nobody was that much of a x-Factor since Sam Merrill in my opinion.

It was noted several times during national broadcast games, including the TCU game, that our offense was going stagnant and I do think it was due to the hyperfocus on getting Great touches. So yeah, I expect much better offensive opportunities for Mason, Ian, and Josh.

The main problem, IMO, was we had limited outside shooting threats. So they could pack it in on Great and not worry about leaving a guy open on the 3 point line. If you had 3 or 4 shooters surrounding Great, he'd cook winning a ton of 1 on 1 battles.

Everything revolved around Great, which obviously worked but also I think is why we weren't a dominate team. If he was in foul trouble, tired or off, it took one on one heroics of DB and Ian mostly to survive.

This is why I think Great needs to choose wisely his next destination. He had an offense completely built around him this year.

Yup, and this explains why so many of DBs big shots were at the end of the shot clock. I also think we looked better against TCU when we played with Osobor out of the key more often that during the season. I think it took TCU by surprise too.

We are one player away from retaining all eligible starters and key backups from last season… you can’t ask for much better than that. Big win by Calhoun, big win by Sabau. Here’s to Osobor making it 100%

So current depth chart looks something like this right now?

G) Deyton Albury
G) Ian Martinez
G) Mason Falslev, Josh Uduje
F) Isaac Johnson, Karson Templin
C) Aubin Gateretse

I feel like we need a backup center and backup primary ballhandler to serve the Javon Jackson role. Then we’re set!

Need a lengthy wing who can play defense, imo. Someone in the 6'6 - 6'9 range would be ideal (those guys are few and far between, I know)

On a positive note - I just ran into Karson Templin at the Dallas airport. We had a short conversation and I got to ask him a few things. He obviously didn’t divulge any crazy info to some guy fan girling in the airport but had some positive things to say to the few questions I asked.

I’m glad I saw him, because I got to tell him I think we’ve just barely scratched the surface on the player he can be and that I think he’s going to be very good for us. I know many have said that here, on X and on Instagram but I wanted to make sure he heard that. There’s always a lot of noise on social media and hopefully he has seen the positive sentiments, but I also hope the words of one fan will stick with him.
Did Templin make any hints about Martinez? If we get him back, then we will essentially have brought back four starters - Falslev, Johnson, Uduje and Martinez. Albury, Gatereste and Templin are already committed as well.

Regardless of all the openings that still need to be filled, we should feel good about going into next season with these seven.
I’ll now speak on this (because no one can say I was wrong hahaha). I will never claim to be some kind of insider, this was probably my one and only moment of any insight.

As I said in a different post, he didn’t tell me
anything with his words, but his body language did (picture some slight nodding and a smile while saying that we’d hear something from Ian very soon)

More than anything — WE ARE SO BACK BABY

Anybody know any billionaires that would be willing to just chuck a million dollar offer at Great to see if he will stick around? It’s got to be pretty tempting to stay with your whole entire team returning. Just need that dough though.

The 7 players on the roster
6 of the 7 started 10 or more games last season.
3 of the 7 were their first year starting in D1 ball
4 of the 7 had double digit points per game
6 of the 7 had over 6 points or more per game
The 1 that had less than 6 points per game was a true freshman
3 of the 7 shot 34% or better from 3
5 of the 7 shot 47% or better from the field
We have 6 to go on the roster.

Hey Governor Cox, rather than spend a few billion on a baseball and hockey arena how about sending some of those state funds to the Land Grant Schools NIL Fund?

We are one player away from retaining all eligible starters and key backups from last season… you can’t ask for much better than that. Big win by Calhoun, big win by Sabau. Here’s to Osobor making it 100%
I would include the Blue A Collective as a big player in this as well.
The Blue A Collective came through big time. All of our donations are making a difference and Ian retuning is proof!
