Looks like we won't be getting any talent from Orem anytime soon.
That's a far worse move for that coach. Utah State not taking (or being "allowed" to take) Orem players will hurt Orem players far more than it'll hurt Utah State. There are lots of high schools in Utah. There are 3 FBS programs in Utah and 2 of them will increasingly be looking outside the state for top-tier talent.

Are any New Mexico State quarterbacks going to enter the portal that Dreiling would know. He probably wouldn't have dealt with the kids that started as much, but he would be familiar with whoever was running scout team for him.
The new secondary coach might know the available Nevada quarterbacks.
Yeah we need a guy who can defecate on the opponents logo before games!

Wow! Things are getting spicy at spring camp. Hey @aggies22, what's the word on the street with our QB situation? Are they bringing someone else in?
There was a need for at least one QB when Hillstead bailed. Now that Coop is also moving on we are going to need two. Now the draw could be immediate playing time. We are one snap away from Bryson Barnes being the starter.
Coop seems to be the highest rated QB currently available in the transfer portal:

https://www.on3.com/transfer-portal/wir ... osition=qb

I wonder who we'll go after. Maybe the kid from New Mexico?

Thanks for your time here Cooper. We appreciate the good times that you brought. Find a place to enjoy your last season of college football. That is, unless, the courts decide that eligibility isn't a think anymore.

Wow, this sucks. Reminds me a bit of GA 2.0's debacle brining in Jason Shelley. RIP QB room.
Colombi was substantially better than Legas though
How does one arrive at that conclusion?

Cooper Legas' QB rating last year was not only significantly higher than Colombi's ever was at any point in his career, but Colombi also played lesser competition at Marshall.

Legas had the #1 QB rating in the MWC last year.
Just watching the game. Blake’s system is so easy if you have a WR like Royals. You need to make 2 throws. A deep in or a deep ball when the WR is wide open. It’s not that complicated. The stats lie.

Cooper wouldn’t start at any other bowl eligible schools in the conference. He’s probably a Big Sky talent with a Big time competitor juice that puts him into our league.

Counterpoint....if it was so easy, why did Hillstead not get the ball to Royals in the games he played? Royals had far better numbers (yds, catches, TD's) in games with Legas than with Hillstead.
I'm genuinely worried about Royals leaving, now that Legas is gone.
Hopefully Royals has seen enough out of Petras in spring ball to want to stick around.

He’s under contract through 2027. His buyout would be $3.5M after this year. We can’t pay that.

What is this depth you speak of?

Our current QB room is Petras in his final year of eligibility, Barnes, who by all reports, was distantly the fourth best QB on the roster three days ago, and Zeke Payne.

Yes but Zeke Payne has yet to make his spring ball debut so there’s still a chance. Zeke Payne will save us right? Right?

How long does he get to skate by on the MWC title? I'm not saying fire him, but I'd love to know if these players are solely leaving for more money (not much you can do about that), or to get away from BA? If to get away from BA, then that's not great for program and a serious issue that needs to be addressed. Especially when we've regressed both years post MWC title.

This is an issue across all of college athletics. I get the impression Legas left because he realized he was going to be second string and didn't want to sit his senior year. If reports we are all hearing are true.

A lot of us wanted him gone if he didn't fire Cauthen like he needed to. Everything he said pointed towards him not wanting to and only giving in and doing it cause he was forced to.

I figure we're the type of program that will have 3 or 4 year cycles...at least historically. We'll see in the brave new world of the unlimited transfer portal.

I'm not overly bothered by a few average years after a great year as long as we have another great year before too long.

Average years are disappointing but there’s a difference between average and getting destroyed by Weber and barely skating past bad teams.

You'll find few more upset than I was after that debacle. I blame a lot of that on his loyalty to Logan who should have been sitting because he was hurt. I compared Blake's decisions at that time to coaches coaching a son in LIttle League.

The Weber game is unforgiveable, but the season did get turned around and we beat a 10 win Air Force team. Legas should have started the whole year. Similar to when he came in for Hillstead and the offense would become much better, had he been the guy all of 2022, we would have a very different view of that season.

Thank you coop. I also applaud BA for bringing in competition. It looks like someone lost the starting job. I'd rather be in this situation than automatically giving the job to coop and complaining mid season when were losing.

I suppose that is true though we got plowed in that bowl game. I’m totally out on Blake after last season though.

That being said I hope we go undefeated and I get to eat a steaming pile of deep fried vulture.

Man, don't know what to think. I like Legas, he's been a B QB for us and good enough to seriously compete.

Hillstead showed some good things, glad he was there for depth and development.

Bringing in Petras, he seemed like a good guy to have on the room.

So is Petras really outclassing Legas and Hillstead? If so, I'm excited to win more games.

Or did the two guys move on because they felt Petras was being given undeserved favorable treatment?
