Poll: Who would you start at QB @ SJSU if it were your decision?
Assuming both QB’s are healthy and ready to go, who would you start at QB against SJSU this Saturday if it were up to you?

Offense is playing pretty well right now. I am not messing with that this late in the season. Hillstead may be slightly better and certainly will be better later in his career, but as far as this season goes I don't think he Hames the trajectory of the season. It's not like we put Hillstead in and we are going to win the conference at this point. I would roll with what we have going on and try to use Hillsteads redshirt if possible.

Keep Cooper. He's played well enough, and a few more weeks to recover from the concussion will not hurt Hillstead. I've seen too many young men get multiple concussions in one year and it's usually the trajectory towards the end of a career. There's no reason for that. And with our O-line being sketchy on a good day.... No need to put him out there.
Cooper has proven to be tough as nails.

Hillstead is the future but the way Cooper is playing right now he gives us the best chance get to a bowl this year.

Is that a Legas short leash or a Bonner short leash?

Yep, Cooper should start with Hillstead ready to go if things aren't going well.

The weird thing is, not withstanding we did last week at least play Fresno to a 7-7 tie, is I have just as much faith in Legas doing well in relief if Hillstead starts with things not going well, as I do in Hillstead in relief of Legas.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑October 20th, 2023, 1:41 pmYep, Cooper should start with Hillstead ready to go if things aren't going well.

It would be more ideal if we were in the old era where redshirting him meant we get him HERE for four more years.pilotaggie wrote: ↑October 20th, 2023, 3:12 pmThis would be me ideal.ViAggie wrote:RS Hillstead

Re: Poll: Who would you start at QB @ SJSU if it were your decision?
I think Hillstead gives us a better chance to win. I love Coop and love his resilience but Hillstead seems to be quicker in his decisions and more precise with his throws. I will be surprised if one of the two don't leave after this year. I would not base the SJSU decision on trying to keep them but it is the simple reality.

True. If he is going to stay then red shirt. If not then I say play him.GameFAQSAggie wrote:It would be more ideal if we were in the old era where redshirting him meant we get him HERE for four more years.pilotaggie wrote: ↑October 20th, 2023, 3:12 pmThis would be me ideal.ViAggie wrote:RS Hillstead

Re: Poll: Who would you start at QB @ SJSU if it were your decision?
I would love to see Hillstead further develop chemistry with Royals and Vaughn and the rest of the receiver room. I think he has better potential to get them the ball and give them chances to make big plays. I also just think he's a bit more fun to watch. Wouldn't mind Cooper starting this week tho, he's earned a chance if it's a tossup.

After last year, albeit on the defensive side of the ball, I just hope to have ONE of them back for next year.

Re: Poll: Who would you start at QB @ SJSU if it were your decision?
It's not just a matter of him staying for next year, it wouldn't make much difference in 2024 if we have him as a true sophomore or redshirt freshman. It's the likelihood of him being here in 2025 and 2026 where the odds get lower each year, then of course the odds get lower of him deciding to be here for his fifth-year senior season in 2027. He could have his mind made up that he is ONLY leaving for a guaranteed, no-competition starting spot at a P5 school which he probably won't get after the season but would have a better shot at after a whole year of staring in 2024. And, the P5 schools would be all the more likely to throw money at him after 2024 if he has 3 years left after that season as opposed to 2, or if he is here for 2025, 2 years left after that instead of 1.pilotaggie wrote: ↑October 20th, 2023, 5:09 pmTrue. Re: Poll: Who would you start at QB @ SJSU if it were your decision?
Yep and my answer is the same. If I had a crystal ball and knew he would stay the entire time then red shirt and develope. If I know in advance he leaves early for another school then put him on the field now.GameFAQSAggie wrote:It's not just a matter of him staying for next year, it wouldn't make much difference in 2024 if we have him as a true sophomore or redshirt freshman. My question. If one of them is leaving at the end of the season, does this change who you put on the field. If you put coop in for the rest of the year, will Mccae leave?

We also have some very very very talented QBs comin in. Would love to see if McCae is the guy. The season is already basically over. It’s time to see what the future will look like

Leash lengths differ depending on who recruited you I guess

Re: Poll: Who would you start at QB @ SJSU if it were your decision?
Blake started the wrong QB. Our offense has been humming with Legas & this defense isn’t that good. I don’t get what he has against Cooper.
He wouldn’t bench Bonner for him, he publicly throws him under the bus, and then he was so quick to bench him.

60% of votes were dead right. If I’m Jalen Royals, I’m threatening to riot if Blake keeps trotting Hillstead out there. COOPER has been getting the ball to Royals. Hillstead has not and is not.

I'm not sure you understand what a statistic is. Something quantifiable. Not just going with your gut.

Maybe if Cooper played the Defense wouldnt have been absolutely hot Garbage all night! Totally McCae's fault. You guys are right, he isnt ready!
