One potential bowl site that would draw a crowd
They should start a bowl game in St George. Maybe I’m out of the loop and it’s already been discussed. Not sure the capacity of the Utah Tech stadium, but I’m sure there would need to be upgrades. Anyway, obvious destination in December compared to Boise.

The new stadium at Utah Tech is nice. Would be a fun bowl venue, I agree. Arguably at least as desirable as Albuquerque.

The problem is that while a bowl for us in St. George THIS year would be appealing for us fans, It would be a different story when we have hope midseason of winning the conference championship and have hope of the LA Bowl or even a NY6 Bowl, and then after losing to Boise the final week, have to settle for the St. George Bowl.

Pass, too many issues to unpack. Why not a second LV Bowl? As a member of the MWC, can't UNLV negotiate use of their own stadium* for a another bowl game?
*I realize it's not theirs but they have exclusive right to use. There's no rule that says you can't have two bowl games at one location, just space them a week apart. Call it something different so that it doesn't conflict with the "premier" bowl game, like the Mojave Bowl or something?

I feel the same way about San Diego. Why the MW can't sponsor a bowl game in two of the most desirable destination cities in the country that are within the footprint of the conference seems criminal.ViAggie wrote: ↑November 21st, 2022, 9:48 amPass, too many issues to unpack. For the limited number of people that often attend a bowl game, I actually think Dixie might be a good spot. Lots of upgrades have gone on over the last five or so years. The venue is surprisingly nice.

Good location. Venue is not even close to ready to handle this. Only seats 10k. I agree that a second bowl game in Vegas or a second bowl game in SDSU is much better

One potential bowl site that would draw a crowd
We have 3 teams from California in our footprint and only 1 bowl game there? This doesn’t make sense. Would love one in San Diego at Snap Dragon, or maybe the Bay Area somewhere (Oracle Field or SJSU), or even Fresno (Central Valley Bowl). Anyone up for a bowl in BC Place Stadium in Vancouver?

Edmonton has a great stadium, and who wouldn't want to play football in Edmonton in late December. The last couple years, Christmas day has been around 36... except last year when ot was -10. I would travel to Vancouver for a game though, a lot easier for me than Hawaii.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑November 21st, 2022, 10:10 amWe have 3 teams from California in our footprint and only 1 bowl game there? Re: One potential bowl site that would draw a crowd
Who is the Mnt. West conf. going to attract to a Bowl in St. George, Utah??? A Sun Belt School? CUSA? Another MAC school??? I doubt it. Vegas? Yes, easy in easy out (MAC country loves to winter in LV). SD? Absolutely. You have to remember that a bowl game should be more about the game, including experiences. Just touting the great hiking in Snow Canyon and nearby visit to Zion NP isn't going to cut it. Are there enough hotel rooms/vacation rentals in St. George to handle the influx? That would be another issue.
Also, flights to from St. George, especially from the places I mentioned above (MAC/CUSA land) aren't going to be easy to come by if at all.

The bowl existed long before that unfortunate and temporary situation. If that was the only stadium, the bowl never would have started.

Re: One potential bowl site that would draw a crowd
On a bowl trip a few years ago to the rusting hulk of Aloha Stadium, it became pretty clear to me that the destination was much less consequential than ease/cost of travel and ease/cost of everything else for most MWC fanbases.
Hawaii is a fantastic destination whenever you can go. Sometimes it can be a little tough for families to track down flights and accommodations for the islands during the week of Christmas. Especially when it is a bit of a last-minute piece-together trip.
And, say what you will, I have enjoyed my trips to Boise for the bowl game too. But it was not warm.
For the MWC and the member programs, I think going south in Cali, Arizona, or New Mexico makes the most sense.
Just sayin...

It could be a good investment for st George as it’s growing and a bowl would be a nice way to show that off.
But still no.
I think a bowl in Denver would be the best “new bowl” location. A second bowl in Vegas would be good too. MWC vs American/Sun Belt/ACC

Bowl games shouldn't be played in cold weather. The Boise bowl needs to be done and Denver can get a bowl when they build a dome.Imakeitrain wrote: ↑November 21st, 2022, 11:36 amI think a bowl in Denver would be the best “new bowl” location. I'd rather floss my teeth with geoag's leg hair than go to a bowl game in a 10,000 seat stadium that has a track around it. I feel we are destined for the colder than coolag bowl in Boyzee.

Hard pass on the stadium in St. George.
Flying in would be a mess from anywhere except Denver and SLC.
And you'd have a difficult time finding enough hotel rooms to support a bowl game with all the junior competitive soccer and pickleball tournaments this time of year.

Travel into St George would be an issue, but I think you are underestimating the number of hotel and rental accommodations that area has. I’m almost positive St George could handle the # of people with ease. Problem with St. George, as previously mentioned, is that it's a magnet for all the baseball and soccer folks. Also, high temps in SG in mid-December are usually in the low 50's high 40's, not nec. good bowl game weather. Might as well go to Albuquerque.Slim80 wrote: ↑November 23rd, 2022, 7:53 amTravel into St George would be an issue, but I think you are underestimating the number of hotel and rental accommodations that area has.
