Re: Recruiting big board
If Mason Falslev can be ready to go in time, he can fill up the scoring column in a hurry. His last two seasons he averaged over 20 a game. That's in 8 minute quarters (32 minute game) and no shot clock.LoveMyAggies wrote: ↑May 6th, 2022, 4:36 amHey Aggies22aggies22 wrote:I'll second that. 100% NOT Jaxon Brenchley. All I am waiting for is the go ahead to release the info.AGGIE#10 wrote: ↑May 5th, 2022, 8:05 pmIt's not Jaxon and he is transferring here. That is what I'm hearing. Aggies22 was first on the story so I'm not passing on the name. He brings plenty of diversity to our team. Hopefully the news is out soon so we can discuss. I feel he will be a very solid rotational player for us.
What’s your personal opinion, on maybe USU landing a Scoring 2/3? I mean do you think they can do it for next season?
Or maybe the coaches see that type of scorer in Funk??
I’m not looking for insider info with the question, just your observations
Do I think they'll add one? Nope. Once the last player is announced, our team is on the floor.

I'm not going to make many comments because I've been asked not to say who it is. If you get too detailed you can give it away. I can tell the other two dudes who have made comments know who I've been referring to.

I hear Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Hobert aren’t happy with their situation. 22 hasn’t denied we’re recruiting them and it would be a close move any chance one of them is the mystery commit???

My prediction: This is going to be the biggest "meh" announcement in the history of Aggie basketball. We need a Marcus Saxon, not a "rotational player".

Re: Recruiting big board
Sorry I didnt tell you this before now, but I saw Coach Dixon in a south end fast foodie last Wednesday when I was in the valley. He said he was on his way home from the Salt Lake airport, and when I asked him, he said "recruiting is finished for this year." So Im guess they have made their pitches, gotten their guys, and will announce them when they are dang good and ready! So leave Aggies22 alone. He not going to tell you anything, except that he had fun with Brock Miller and Justin Bean last night. Haha.

As Aggie fans we are craving something, anything, that causes us to have hope that the dismal basketball season we just suffered through won’t be repeated next year. We hang on every bit of news that Aggie22 can feed us. This anxiety causes us to click on this thread multiple times per day in the hopes that somehow the gods of the transfer portal will bestow upon us a 4-star recruit that will legitimize our hope. A “nice rotational player” is not what most of us have in mind as we contemplate improving our MWC prospects.

Re: Recruiting big board
Just for some perspective- during the Duryea years we were begging to be in the top 100 teams in the country. We have a first year coach post two NBA players and we went to the NIT. Let’s not call last year dismal.utaggies wrote: ↑May 9th, 2022, 5:40 pmAs Aggie fans we are craving something, anything, that causes us to have hope that the dismal basketball season we just suffered through won’t be repeated next year. Re: Recruiting big board
While last year's inability to finish games was frustrating, it was nowhere near the frustration of the complete lack of any semblance of a cohesive strategy during the Duryea years.

If you are looking for perspective try these on for size. We lost 7 home games this year. Going back in the USU media guide nearly 70 years (when home and away records were first noted in the mid-1950’s) no other Aggie team has lost that many home games. And that doesn’t include the NIT loss to Oregon. One needs to go back 40 years to find an Aggie team with a worse home winning percentage.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑May 9th, 2022, 8:42 pmJust for some perspective- during the Duryea years we were begging to be in the top 100 teams in the country. Yeah, this Aggie team had its moments. And yeah this Aggie team made it to the NIT. The Aggies were picked to finish 5th in the conference and we finished 7th. Duryea finished 8th twice during his brief tenure. So one could argue that last year wasn’t as “dismal” as a couple of Duryea’s seasons, but is that really the comparison we want to make? We can argue semantics all day long but if the season was not dismal it was at the very least very disappointing.
We are all hoping for a significant turnaround next season and perhaps that will happen. But as my grandmother used to say, “I’m from Mizzoura!”

1981-1982? 3-8 home record. The next year 1982-1983 went to NCAA tourney after picking up Ence and McMullin and Grant coming back from knee surgery.utaggies wrote: ↑May 9th, 2022, 10:45 pmIf you are looking for perspective try these on for size. We were a few losses from another NCAA appearance. If that is “dismal” then maybe you should go be a Bulldog.

Re: Recruiting big board
Last season was definitely frustrating with the inability to close out games or pull out a few wins from close games (hitting a few more free throws would have massively helped). There were some great moments when we saw what the team was capable of doing but for whatever reason it never fully came together. Part of that during the conference season was the MWC being stronger overall. And maybe looking at the season in isolation it could be considered "dismal" for what we expect year-to-year. But looking at it in context, I think last season was not all that bad. That context includes:utaggies wrote: ↑May 9th, 2022, 10:45 pmIf you are looking for perspective try these on for size. - The head coach suddenly and unexpectedly leaving.
- Queta was our second consecutive player drafted by an NBA team and we all knew we were somewhat thin behind Queta, who made up for a lot of the 2021 team's deficiencies.
- Prior recruits had not really panned out all that great to replace what we lost over the prior two seasons.
- We hire a new coach from the other side of the country with a much different philosophy and coaching style but were largely running back the same team as the prior year without Queta.
- Despite all of the close loses, the team always fought tough and never gave up.
- We saw marked improvement/development throughout the season with Baristow, Shulga, and Zee.
Overall, while there was a step backwards last season from where we were, I do not think it was all that unexpected. I trust the staff has a plan, even if they keep it very close to the vest, and has worked hard at implementing it. We should all expect to see forward progress this upcoming season. If not, I expect Odom's leash gets quite a bit shorter but he is still afforded another year or two thereafter to be successful.

Re: Recruiting big board
Guys. We aren't a blue blood program. Losing guys to the NBA has a HUGE impact on our team. It's really, really difficult for a program such as ours to simply fill the void left by a player that was good enough to move on to the highest level of professional basketball in the world.
