Conference Mates Offseason

Post by slcagg » March 22nd, 2022, 5:49 pm

Boise state:

Players Leaving: Abu Kijab 14 ppg (Graduation)

Current Players on Roster:

Center: Mladen Armus (Returning Starter at 7 ppg and 8 rpg, Will be graduate player), Lukas Milner (Key backup center, Will be graduate player)
PF: Naje Smith (Key backup this year, will be graduate player), Sadraque Nganga (Will be True Freshman, ranked #76 player in the country)
SF: Tyson Degenhart (Freshman of the year in the MW this past year, will be Soph), RJ Keene (Will be redshirt freshman, Aggie fans should remember him as we were a finalist for this kid, might play SG)
SG: Emmanuel Akot (Returning Starter, Will be graduate player, averaged 10 ppg), Max Rice (Key bench guy this past year, will be senior next year)
PG: Marcus Shaver (Averaged 13 ppg, Graduate player, Ice in his veins), Pavle Kuzmanovic (Bench guy that saw some time this year, plays more SG)

Overall: If Boise returns what is listed above they are going to be very good again. They have several seniors that are probably weighing to come back or move on (Akot, Armus, Shaver and Smith), which will be key in their experience.

Nevada:

1. Warren Washington transferring

Wyoming:

1. Hunter maldonaldo testing nba waters, with option to return.

SDSU:

1. Matt Bradley will return for his super senior year
2. Seiko back for next year
3. Butler returning for his junior year

Seiko, Bradley, and Butler all back for SDSU and Arop and Menseh are likely back with the Covid year option.

Haha definitely the MW as a whole has struggled. At this point steve Alford is the best tournament coach by default since he is the only one to have had any real tourney success in his coaching career.

I can’t remember exactly but didn’t Ogden have a little success in the ncaa tourney? I’m remembering something about doing something that no one else has ever done.. what was that again?

Famed mountain man peter skene ogden? Yes he did do things no other European had done at the time exploring the west. Agreed about ryan odom, he has the most impressive tournament win of all conference coaches. He just needs a sweet sixteen trip. Alford has a couple. Hope Odom gets one with USU.

It's crazy to me how so many of our conference competitors can land a 4* dude but we struggle to land high 3* dudes. And even when we do, they end up being colossal busts.

Name recognition is my theory. If Stew could have pulled off just a few tourney wins during his run it would have meant all the difference in the world; that's how Gonzaga went from the cute underdog giving it the "old college try" to becoming a basketball powerhouse.

Nevada has Steve Alford's name. NM has always been associated with being a good basketball program as has SDSU who also has a strong coaching history.

Absolutely. Offer him and ask him which position he wants to play.

Most likely, he's looking for a P5 gig.

I wonder if Thomas and Thistlewood moving on foreshadows guys like Roddy moving on too.

No, Thistlewood was not getting minutes and used to be a starter. And Thomas started but only played about 50% of the time and is probably looking for more minutes.

It’s sounds like Roddy is 50/50 on going to the NBA.

There are different recruiting sites but ESPN lists Pettigrew as a 4 star. They also have a commitment from Damion Williams who is also an ESPN 4 star. He also was just named the Gatorade High school POY for Nevada. He is a 6'7 small forward/PF..

Yeah Williams is not rated on 247. San Jose St has a 3* recruit as well.
We got nothing yet.

Tubby roddy is declaring for the draft too. Now we just need to upgrade our talent level. Do not believe csu will be as good next year.

....but not hiring an agent so he can keep his eligibility to return to CSU if doesn't grade out as a Round 1 guy....which I doubt he does.
