NIT - Host Game?
Do we host a home game? Potentially win a NIT tournament?

Re: NIT - Host Game?
Unless a lot of teams turn it down, I don’t think our NET is high enough for the NIT.
You absolutely accept if offered, but I am honestly far more interested in getting the roster purge and recruiting going

We are the 7 seed in the MW. Unless we get 4 teams in the tourney and are picked over Fresno or UNLV we aren’t going let alone hosting.

How many teams are in the NIT? Our net is around 60 and the top 48 or so will make the NCAAT.

32. But they take every conference champ that doesn’t make the NCAA’s, so typically that takes up 8-12 slots3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑March 10th, 2022, 9:43 pmHow many teams are in the NIT? Our net is around 60 and the top 48 or so will make the NCAAT.

Re: NIT - Host Game?
Their are 32 teams. Any conference tournament where the #1 seed lost and does not get invited to the NCAA tourney automatically gets invited to the NIT. Not sure how many of those there are so far. After that they just select teams that think are deserving. A majority of the teams will come from the major conferences.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑March 10th, 2022, 9:43 pmHow many teams are in the NIT? Re: NIT - Host Game?
People really undervalue who gets into the nit. The sdsu team we beat in 2019 didnt get an invite. Look at who has gone to the nit from the MW recently, all been top of the league teams. They arent taking a 7th place 8-10 MW team. Since we dont like the cbi/cit, our season is over. It is fine, odom needs to put all his energy into recruiting. We need a major talent upgrade

Re: NIT - Host Game?
Here's the thing, though, if they're not taking teams 50-65 in the NET rankings, who are they taking that is better, but didn't make the NCAA Tournament? Sure there may be a handful of lower conference winners that get upset in the tourney, but not enough to fill up even half of the 32 spots.
The numbers don't add up to me.

Meaning, from a P5 conference? If so, then yeah, I agree that is probably more important to the NIT selection committee than NET.

Re: NIT - Host Game?
Even if enough teams turn down the NIT for us to get in, there WONT be enough teams turning it down for us to get a top four seed to host.
Odom talked about seeing where the chips fall for postseason on the postgame show, so that is pointing towards us accepting a CBI or CIT invite.

These guys have us in the NIT. This was before the game we just played. Surprising we are the only MW team with a NIT invite according to this.

Re: NIT - Host Game?
Is it always the top seed that hosts? Like if we upset a higher seed first round and so did our opponent so we are a higher seed. Do we host in that case? Or is it only first round games played at home courts.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑March 10th, 2022, 10:09 pmEven if enough teams turn down the NIT for us to get in, there WONT be enough teams turning it down for us to get a top four seed to host.

Re: NIT - Host Game?
Yes. It is a rule the higher seed hosts. The only exception is if an arena is unavailable cause of a pre-scheduled event, then they would let the lower seed host. Like there was one year Kentucky was the 1 seed, but cause of their arena being booked for the NCAA's, the game was moved to 8 seed Robert Morris's court.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑March 10th, 2022, 10:11 pmIs it always the top seed that hosts? I did notice that Dayton is a projected NIT one seed, so with their gym booked for the first four, they could be forced to travel to the 8 seed's place. The Marriott Center being booked for the women's NCAA's could force BYU on the road to the 7 or 8 seed's place. As well as other gyms that are booked for pre-scheduled events.

Wouldn’t it be the greatest if we played BYU in the spectrum. 1 vs 8 seedGameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑March 10th, 2022, 10:24 pmYes. It is a rule the higher seed hosts. Re: NIT - Host Game?
Right, but they also were a top 4 MW team(plus made the championship) that had 21 wins. Hey if we get in great, but we definitely would be bucking a decade long trend of only seeing the top of the conference get invited. We'll see if net is as valuable to the nit selection committee as some think it is. Hope you guys are right even though it will likely mean another last minute chokeineptimusprime wrote: ↑March 10th, 2022, 10:11 pmThe SDSU team we beat in 2019 was 116 in NET. Re: NIT - Host Game?
This site has us as a 7-seed in the NIT: https://www.dratings.com/predictor/bracketology/
I don't know anything about the site or its credibility, but found it interesting that we were mentioned. FWIW, I don't expect us to get an invite to the NIT. I hope we'd take an invite to CIT or CBI, but I guess we'll see what happens...

Re: NIT - Host Game?
The NIT is a lot better than it used to be. They take the runner up in the conference that doesn’t get invited to the NCAA. So there is no way we go to the NIT! Those other two or three tournaments are a piece of crap. However, I am sure if they invite we will accept. I wish we wouldn’t. We need to hit the recruiting trail instead of wasting time on those other tournaments!

Re: NIT - Host Game?
I imagine they will leave it up to the players to decide if they want to play in the CIT (if invited). Seniors who will never play ball again probably want one more game. Competitors always want one more game. Unless they are just exhausted at this point.
If we aren't able to recruit due to the normal rigors of the basketball season, just like everyone else does, then an extra week and half while sitting out the CIT isn't going to help.

Interesting. Listening to Scotty after the game, he seemed to think we'd turn down an invite to the CIT or CBI, and that the odds at an NIT were slim. No idea if he had inside info or not, but he felt like yesterday was our last game.ProvoAggie wrote:Listening to post game last night it sounded like we wanted to keep playing however possible.
