The Big 10 will add two more very soon. And the ACC won't be far behind looking at 16. Then more dominos fall.... The only P4 to be playing with 12 schools soon will be the PAC 12. It's going to get very messy in the shuffling.

The Big 12 won't look anything like its former self and it'll look more like C-USA looked like about 15 years ago.

The MWC has relative stability for a G6.

I disagree. I don't see the big 10 and ACC expanding anytime soon now that Texas is off the board

There was a time I thought Kansas and Iowa State would go to the Big 10, but the Big 10 would be a step down from the reconstituted Big 12 from a basketball standpoint. All of the Big 12 additions aside from UCF have strong basketball programs.

Basketball drives the bus in Lawrence, and KU isn’t going to downgrade basketball conferences.

Agreed. You can pretend that this reshuffle is good for basketball, but the big 12 just became the trailer trash of the P5.

Kansas and Iowa State would defit go to the Big 10 if given the opportunity. I don't think they'll have that opportunity

And yet if Kansas had type of program in football they’d be in a conference not teetering on if it should be p5 or g5. Basketball doesn’t drive bus in conference realignment, football does.

If Kansas were to turn down a potential Big Ten invite to remain in the Big-12 due to Big-12 basketball possibly being slightly stronger every so often, then all KU administration should be fired immediately.

The Big 10 wouldn't go after Kansas or Kansas State anyway. Think bigger.

The Big 10 is 2nd on the totem pole to the SEC.

The only reason the Big Ten might look at Kansas is because of its high profile basketball program, the Kansas City market (although comparative to the other Big Ten markets, KC is relatively minor), and it is an academic fit as Kansas is a member of the AAU. If KU had even a mid-level Big-12 football program, they'd probably be a shoe-in for the Big Ten. They could very well end up paying a steep price for letting their football program languish of mediocrity for decades. Kansas State is completely out the question for the Big Ten.

I think we'll see all P4s end up with 16 teams like the SEC, Big12 leftovers mostly get picked off and if the P4=16 teams does happen I'm wondering if we'd see Notre Dame finally put their football into a conference and join the Big10.

I don't know about Notre Dame, but the Big 10 wouldn't be looking at Kansas when they could have better.

Remember, the eastern time zone is 46.75% of the US population. The Big 10 is fully aware of that. Why did anyone think they wanted Rutgers if not for that reason? That's part of the NYC area. They haven't completely grabbed the NYC market (Think Syracuse). They still have the DC market (Think Virginia or Virginia Tech) to look at.

Once the Big 10 makes its next move, look out for the ACC. West Virginia will be the first on the list of candidates.

If Notre Dame joins a conference (which it won't) it would be the ACC. They chose to affiliate after the Big East broke apart.

I don't know if there really are schools that move the needle enough to move though.

Many of the last several realignments revolved around Texas. The SWC broke apart because they only had 7-8% of the nation's media market. The Big 8 wanted Texas. The PAC-12 made a run at Texas, but they got Colorado and Utah instead. A&M left for the SEC because they wanted to be out of Texas's shadow. Nebraska went to the Big 10 for the same reason.

Now Texas and Oklahoma are leaving for the SEC. This obviously is Texas centric, they are the biggest Athletic Department out there.

Outside of Notre Dame, which would not send shockwaves through the landscape, I don't think any school not already in the SEC, PAC-12, or Big 10 moves the needle that much. Maybe Clemson, but they are struggling some anyways.

The Big Ten already has the DC market. The University of Maryland campus is less than 8 miles from the White House. Charlottesville, VA is about 100 miles from DC, and Blacksburg, VA is over 200 miles from DC. The only big northeastern market missing from the Big Ten is Boston. Boston College does not fit the typical profile of a Big Ten school, but it is academically very well respected (#35 USNWR ranking) and the football program is usually at least respectable, so they could possibly fit in the Big Ten. But Boston is not known for being a big college sports town, too easy to get lost in the shuffle behind the rabid support for the Patriots, Red Sox, Celtics, and Bruins.

Granted, BC is a possible candidate, but I'm not expecting it. I could be wrong...

Saying that you control the DC market with Maryland is like saying that you control the NYC market with Rutgers. Virginia is the most likely candidate, besides Syracuse, because that would lock down the DC market. Both Syracuse and Virginia give a basketball prominence similar to Kansas for the basketball fanatics, but that's not really the biggest factor in consideration.

No doubt Maryland does not control the DC market. But the Big Ten most definitely does have a strong presence in the market, so how much value would Virginia really add?

It's not just about value, it's about cutting into your competitors market while also adding value. The Big 10 would love to separate itself from the ACC. This would put the ACC in an uncomfortable position, because it'd be forced to look at the Big 12 leftovers and also the AAC.
