Good article outlining preseason rankings. They have USU ranked at 58.

Ryan Odom made a life change that pretty much only a person in coaching would undertake: he moved from Baltimore to Logan, Utah.
Yikes. This guy really likes crime central over Cache Valley.

Lol. I spend quite a bit of time in Baltimore. I do not know anyone that would choose to live in Baltimore. There are a few blocks that are nice but in general it is probably the worst place to live in America.

Re: CBS preseason rankings
We do! And fortunately, we only play Air Force once (though we do play SJSU twice). That gives us 3 games in the 300's, 5 games in the 200's, 7 games in the 100's, and like you said, 12 games in the sub-100's. It could be better, but that's a pretty healthy slate and could be the basis for a strong resume going into March!

Re: CBS preseason rankings
[UPDATED - corrected NET quads for neutral site games]
So, just looking at it again and breaking it down by percentage of our schedule (29 games):
NAIA: 1 game, 3.4%
300+: 3 games, 10.3%
200-299: 5 games, 17.2%
100-199: 7 games, 24.1%
1-99: 12 games, 41.4%
If we assume that these CBS rankings are good representations of NET rankings later on, here is the breakdown by quadrant (which doesn't include that NAIA game):
Quad 1: 6 games, 21.4% (@BYU, @Iowa, @Colorado St, @Nevada, @SDSU, @Boise St)
Quad 2: 6 games, 21.4% (Richmond-neutral, Saint Mary's, Boise St, SDSU, Nevada, Colorado St)
Quad 3: 4 games, 14.3% (New Orleans, @Weber St, @Fresno St, @Wyoming)
Quad 4: 12 games, 42.9% (UC Davis, Penn-neutral, UT Arlington, Portland St, @Air Force, SJSU, @New Mexico, Wyoming, Air Force, UNLV, New Mexico, @SJSU)
How does this schedule stack up against some we've had in the past?

Re: CBS preseason rankings
That could give as an additional boost. Also, I realized that I had @Richmond and @Penn, when those are neutral site games, so I had to bump each of those up a quadrant. My previous post is corrected.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑October 14th, 2021, 1:09 pmWe also are missing 2 of the myrtle beach games. Re: CBS preseason rankings
For the Myrtle Beach Classic, here are the CBS rankings for each of the other teams, and what NET quad they'd be in for a neutral site game (not including Penn):
100 - Davidson (Quad 2)
89 - NMSU (Quad 2)
48 - Oklahoma (Quad 1)
188 - East Carolina (Quad 3)
187 - Indiana St (Quad 3)
160 - Old Dominion (Quad 3)
Oklahoma really got the weaker side of the bracket!

Re: CBS preseason rankings
I really wonder what these guys base their guesses upon.
Is it on last year's numbers? Is it on schedules? Is it on recruits and transfers? Is it about who left?
These cats have you a few spots below what you were last season..I think your Net was a little below 50 and they project 58. That seems like a reasonable guess..
Nevada had a Net of 101 last season and returns all five starters who played a role in that 101.
This projection has the Pack at 54..They have them jumping over 47 teams..
I am not complaining but how does that compute without a single game being played yet..?

I'm with you. Great, I'm glad people are thinking well of USU, but... I mean, we'll see. A lot change. A lot of different players. It should be called preseason prognostication, not rankings.nvspuds wrote: ↑October 14th, 2021, 2:59 pmI really wonder what these guys base their guesses upon.

Re: CBS preseason rankings
NV has many reasons for optimism for sure..However, other teams also have reasons to be optimistic..
Two things I always look to are continuity and experience..
Last season the Pack had 2 upperclassmen (no seniors) and 9 underclassmen..
This season there there will be a more even split with 6 upperclassmen to 7 sophs and frosh..
But, much like you fellows we will have to see how the pieces fit..

Looking forward to that Iowa game. I assumed they would be the clear favorites but maybe not? Essentially a home game Iowa since Sioux Falls is literally right by the Iowa border.

Re: CBS preseason rankings
Hard to quibble too much with how he has the MW teams ranked. I could see us finishing anywhere from 1-5 depending on how the pieces fit together. Should be a fun season.
Our floor is decently high just based on experience level, but I have no idea what the ceiling is. To me, it really all comes down to how RJ and Horvath (two small conference first teamers) translate to the MW, and if there’s a surprise (leap from Bairstow being used right, Thelissen or Zee contributing, etc.)
But it’s nearly impossible for me to fathom that an experienced core of Justin Bean, Brock Miller, Horvath, RJ, Jones, and Ashworth could be a “bad” team. Is it an NCAA tourney team? My honest guess is “no.” If I had to prognosticate, I’d guess we’ll end up an 18-22 win team that is a 3-5 seed in the MW tourney.
Excited to get things underway!

That Ken Pom pre-season ranking for the Aggies makes a lot more sense to me than CBS’ ranking. But I think that CSU is under-ranked by Pom.
