I like our chances amongst that group. He shot well in his limited minutes. I’d like to see what he can do with more time here.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
I like the sound of that.. I’m now thinking point guard and getting excited. We have some good pieces and PG is what we still need to solidify. We seem to have ok depth other places and a few possible standouts or players with high ceilings that could surprise next year. Let’s fill in that last piece at PG. even if Ashworth takes bigs strides forward this year, having another guard is what we need.aggies22 wrote:Start thinking point guard.........

Threadjack alert!!!
In 1980, USU was invited to and attended the Inbank Classic in Providence, Rhode Island. It was a 4-team tournament where the Aggies first night opponent was Michigan State - the national champion from two seasons before. The game was broadcast on the fledgling ESPN network (which was still showing more Australian Rules Football matches than basketball games). The color commentator was a recently retired coach name Dick Vitale.
In spite of Vitale's assurances to the contrary, USU beat MSU. And in spite of further assurances form Vitale USU beat Washington the next night to win the tournament title.
The Aggies were led by a new point guard named Lance Washington who played at a level beyond anyone's expectations.
It crossed my mind that he may have heard the New England accent during team intros where he was introduced as "Stawting at Point Gawd" and felt the pressure to live up to the billing.
Sorry.
Back to the topic at hand.

If 22 builds suspense, it is something really good. PG will be on my mind all night.
I will say this is the most exciting recruiting class that we have had in some time.

Seriously though. I felt like we heard NOTHING about recruiting with the old staff, as good as they were. It’s nice to hear things and actually get some commitments from seemingly exciting players.

Re: The hopefully definitive 2021 transfer portal thread
I think the PG we're going after is Aaron Cook. I'm skeptical we could land him but if we did that would be a home run. He played over 30 mpg each of the last 3 seasons prior to the this one. I'm encouraged though that we're actually going after him. This team really needs some athletic, veteran guard play.

I believe last year was his first at Gonzaga. Played at southern Illinois before Gonzaga.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 28th, 2021, 8:37 amI think the PG we're going after is Aaron Cook. Regardless of that I agree I would really like to add him. Tells you how stacked Gonzaga is.

Aaron Cook was a back-up PG at Gonzaga that average 4.5 points and 1.7 assists last season and before that played 4 seasons at Southern Illinois.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 28th, 2021, 8:37 amI think the PG we're going after is Aaron Cook. Gonzaga was absolutely stacked so I don't put much into the fact he couldn't get off the bench. I still think it'd be a home run with the athleticism and defensive prowess he could bring.SLB wrote: ↑April 28th, 2021, 8:48 amAaron Cook was a back-up PG at Gonzaga that average 4.5 points and 1.7 assists last season and before that played 4 seasons at Southern Illinois.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 28th, 2021, 8:37 amI think the PG we're going after is Aaron Cook. Guys, I'm excited just thinking about it. However, I maintain that there's not a snowball's chance in Provo that he's coming here. The last time I was teased this bad was when I was in my late 30's and this extremely hot 20 year old wanted to meet me at the bar the next evening only to find out that she wanted to introduce me to her mother who was not even luke warm.

I hope our recruiting class is like 2016-2017 one which had Sam Merrill, Brito, Koby, Porter, and Dorius.
Yes, Dorius was part of that class.
Things that we never saw that would have been cool to see was to have that lineup on the court.

However, I maintain that there's not a snowball's chance in Provo that he's coming here. Maybe that's just my Aggie pessimism, but I don't think it'll happen.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 28th, 2021, 8:55 amGonzaga was absolutely stacked so I don't put much into the fact he couldn't get off the bench. I'm skeptical we could land him but if we did that would be a home run. He played over 30 mpg for Gonzaga each of the last 3 seasons prior to the this one. I'm encouraged though that we're actually going after him. This team really needs some athletic, veteran guard play.

Maybe I'm reading into this too much, but he's not following any of the USU coaching staff on Twitter. He is, however, following some staff from both Oregon State and Western Kentucky.
