Re: Eytle-Rock
Some people have expressed a big "meh" at this transfer. I will say though he was a 40% 3 point shooter & this team desperately needs that. If we can now just add one more very athletic transfer Guard I'll be really pleased with the offseason.

Re: Eytle-Rock
I don’t know how you can watch his highlights and not be intrigued by his handles and ability to attack the rim. Not to mention his 3 pt%. Has a strong build like Matt Mitchell and won’t get knocked around. I love this signing.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 19th, 2021, 12:11 pmSome people have expressed a big "meh" at this transfer. Awesome. I have been wanting him to come here since he before he entered the portal. Great get.
And yes if we land one more athletic guard, this offseason will be a big success.

He’s a better creator on offense than anyone on the team last year and a much better finisher than Marco.

Re: Eytle-Rock
Yep - one more athletic guard/wing that can defend the opponent's best wing player. Ideally, this person can also shoot the 3 at a 40% clip, or better.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 19th, 2021, 12:11 pmSome people have expressed a big "meh" at this transfer. If there is one more schollie after that - it needs to go to a 6'9" guy that has some muscle and can rebound and knock people around in the post, not get pushed around, and set some picks. Someone that can give us 5 fouls and 20 minutes and grab 5 or 6 rebounds per game - and soften up the center/power forward for the other team and make guards think twice about cutting through the lane.
As for Eytle-Rock -- Good pickup there. He definitely adds value to the team. Now someone get him some fry sauce.

This is a big get. Eytle Rock was on track to possibly win the American East POY next year.

He played a decent amount of minutes in the 1, 2, & 3 positions last year at UMBC. I think he's pretty versatile. He was their backup PG behind the 5'2" guy.

Re: Eytle-Rock
He could. I was thinking in addition to him. Maybe someone a little more mobile. It was also suggested that Shulga could be that wing defender, but I think we need someone else there - someone a little more athletic and "longer", if that makes sense. (and no TWSS jokes here). Shulga has a place/niche on the team, but I don't see it as defending the best wing on the opponent's team.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 19th, 2021, 12:22 pmIs this big man you're describing not already a role that Dorius seemingly could play?Yossarian wrote: ↑April 19th, 2021, 12:20 pmYep - one more athletic guard/wing that can defend the opponent's best wing player. Re: Eytle-Rock
Hells yeah! Now two First-Team All-Conference players added!
Need a true PG now and a guy that can play the 2/3 I think!
I would take the 5’2 guy as a walk-on. No harm in that.

This may have already been mentioned but it's a good sign that two players that have had significant experience with Odom would choose to follow him to his next location. They obviously enjoyed playing for him. It should also help the guys who haven't played under Odom to learn his system faster and will make for a smoother transition.

Re: Eytle-Rock
I don’t think we need another big unless Zapala or Dorius leaves. Bean and Horvath are bigs and will likely get the majority minutes. Dorius and Zapala give us the ability to hulk out if someone is running a true 5.
Eytle-Rock and Ashworth are still the only guys on the roster I trust to dribble a ball. I think we need a 1 and then a guy that can play the 2/3 with the last two scholarships. The 2/3 could be Keondre Kennedy from UMBC, but my guess is we’ll look elsewhere first. Kennedy is a guy that would be good coming off the bench. If we have any other departures, would not be surprised to see him coming too.
My dream is that Fonz comes back too, but that sounds like a pipe dream.

Re: Eytle-Rock
That would be me. I just worry about what we are up against in the MWC when it comes to guards. Thank goodness Marcus Williams moved on but we still have to contend with guards like Stevens, Moore, Butler, Sherfield, Cambridge, etc. I don't think this signing still gives us anyone on par with these guys but I do think he helps fill a role as another ball handler on the court and someone who can create for himself and others.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑April 19th, 2021, 12:11 pmSome people have expressed a big "meh" at this transfer. If we can add a quick athletic guard that has more traditional elite PG skills then I'm a bit more on board with this transfer. If he is being looked at as the main solution at PG, I don't think we are going to measure up. I do like his 3-pt shooting % but his shot motion is awfully slow. I'm not sure he'll have the luxury of having that much time in this league so it will be interesting if he can make it at the same rate if he is sped up.

Re: Eytle-Rock
I suppose I’m just not as impressed with the guards in the MW as many of you. I’d take Moore, Stevens, and Sherfield on our team for sure, but, if I’m honest, no one else we played last year was that memorable. Maybe that was Marco playing good defense and Queta erasing the drive?Aglicious wrote: ↑April 19th, 2021, 12:50 pmThat would be me. Re: Eytle-Rock
Excited about this pickup too. Here is an Andy Katz interview with him from February. Love the accent.
I think he is a threat to drive so defenders often slack off enough that he can get his perimeter shot off. I agree that we still need a true pg. Let Ashworth be backup and develop for a year or two more. Slide RJ over to SG and let Shulga be back up there for a year. Hoping RJ can work on his body this off season. Keep the strength but get a bit quicker by toning up a bit.

Without inside knowledge, my gut feeling (along with many here) was right and not worrying. Horvath and Eytle-Rock in that like Worster were in the department of no surprises.

I’d take CSU’s guard line over Nevada’s. Not even hesitation (sorry nvspuds).
If we can sign someone like a Kendle Moore with the last two scholarships, I’d be over the moon.

My thoughts as well. I know it's not in vogue to speak highly of Craig Smith right now, but it says a lot about how great of a coach he is that some of our best talent wants to follow him. Clearly it's a similar situation with Coach Odom. I think it bodes well for his ability to coach.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑April 19th, 2021, 12:38 pmI was thinking this same thing.
