Lied how? A coach has absolutely zero obligation to tell his players he’s interviewing for other jobs, and he shouldn’t. Craig has done not a single thing wrong here.AggieFBObsession wrote:That's not why people have taken the position that they have including me. It's because he lied to the kids and to the fanbase.
I don't blame anyone for being upset because he was disingenuous and dishonest. He was open to the opportunity and he should've made that clear even though it could've impacted recruiting.

Have you listened to a Craig Smith interview? That is your opinion, not mine. He talked to players earlier this week assuring he was staying. He has every right to do it but it does not mean it was a douche move. To go to your hated rival is going to spurn emotions.BleedAggieBlue0 wrote: ↑March 27th, 2021, 8:39 amLied how? The parallels to GA 1.0 leaving aren't lost on me.
I hope Smith doesn't have the personal turmoil GA has had, but I hope his success on the court matches GA's success on the field after leaving USU.

I know Scotty G and that is not true. He is paid to cover sports, specifically in Utah. That means covering BYU, Utah, the Jazz, and the Aggies. He helped get USU on the air on 1280, and tries to interview coaches here on the air.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑March 27th, 2021, 8:41 amYep. Scotty G is just a puppet of Utah and byu. But USU doesn't move the dial as much as some other names locally. If he took a job in the Bay Area, SJSU or even Stanford or Cal wouldn't be the top topic. The 49ers, Warriors, or A's would get the coverage.

No possibility that something changed during that timeframe? Maybe at the time of the call he thought he wasn’t leaving? Informing your players that you’re talking to Utah doesn’t break any trust with Utah but helps maintain your players’ trust. I’m guessing he knew about this job offer when he turned down the Minnesota interview.

I think it’s sports-esque. Doesn’t matter what team, high school, college, nba, when a coach leaves to coach a hated rival fans are going to feel betrayed. Don’t really need you to police everyone on that. Let people grieve how they want and comment on a forum meant to do so.BleedAggieBlue0 wrote:No possibility that something changed during that timeframe? There wasn't an offer until Alex Jensen and Johnnie Bryant turned them down. That only happened yesterday with the latter.hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑March 27th, 2021, 8:59 amInforming your players that you’re talking to Utah doesn’t break any trust with Utah but helps maintain your players’ trust. Minnesota was never going to hire him in the first place.
Re: I apologize Aggie Nation
I've been perhaps the most vocal that there's no way he was going to Utah, so if anything, knowing that I wasn't the only one hearing what I was hearing is comforting.
It's simply baffling to me. I had a coach on his staff tell me DIRECTLY that he had already turned down Utah and that without question he is sticking around. I don't think this coach was lying, and I don't think Craig was trying to mislead this coach. But I would love to hear what happened to sway things so dramatically. It's not like the offer was a surprise.

Re: I apologize Aggie Nation
Correction, Bryant removed his name from consideration yesterday. What does that indicate? He was saving face because Utah was also set on a hire. I also believe strongly that Utah knew Alex was a major long shot given his trajectory in the NBA coaching ranks. I think he was interviewed solely to appease the fan base and boosters who were calling for him to be interviewed.NowhereLandAggie wrote: ↑March 27th, 2021, 9:01 amThere wasn't an offer until Alex Jensen and Johnnie Bryant turned them down. I'm not sure is want to go somewhere that I was the last ditch emergency option. Seems a little humiliating to me. But then again it may have given him extreme negotiating power that he didn't anticipate. In with many of you in saying had he gone somewhere out of state and out of conference else I would continue to cheer for him. I don't wish him bad necessarily but I certainly won't follow how he is doing. Terrible move on his part. He was their 3rd option, so it wasn't likely to get this far down the list, even though it did.

Hard to fault Craig for $3 MM a year. There is not easy way, or right way, for this to happen. It sucks. I guess we're on to seeing what the next coach will bring. Dang.
