New commit?
Izzy Gordon out of Roy HS, 22 do you know anything about this dude, is he a scholarship guy or walkon?

Re: New commit?
I was told he’s a PWO, was previously going to Weber as PWO until USU entered the mix. Great back. Combination of size and speed, has a ton of upside. In a non Covid year would be a scholarship guy at a Big Sky school.

Re: New commit?
Excited for this kid in Gordon. We also got a pwo from Pocatello idaho who is a stud wrestler and oline guy. Think he could be solid as well as they grow this kid. Also had offers to the fcs.

My Aggie brothers are correct. He's definitely a preferred walk-on.JFW_AGGIES wrote: ↑February 4th, 2021, 6:18 amIzzy Gordon out of Roy HS, 22 do you know anything about this dude, is he a scholarship guy or walkon?

Re: New commit?
In Izzy's twitter post (pasted below) announcing his commitment, he acknowledged Emmitt White as his "trainer". As in THE Emmitt White?! That's a good guy to have in your corner, especially if you're an Aggie. Emmitt knows a thing or two about what it takes to be successful at this level, so if I was excited about Izzy Gordon after just learning about him from this thread, I'm even more excited now. Welcome to the family, Izzy! #GoAggies!!

Emmit White run Utah Prospects where he does speed training in addition to football training. There are usually a few kids from his group entered in indoor track meets representing Utah Prospects.

Re: New commit?
22, in years past, I’d have to imagine these pwo’s are scholarship kids? Just curious how you think the extra year of eligibility is affecting recruiting.

Re: New commit?
I don't think these guys would have been scholarship kids here in the past. Except with the last coaching staff......flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑February 4th, 2021, 12:36 pm22, in years past, I’d have to imagine these pwo’s are scholarship kids? The extra year of eligibility really hamstrung a lot of programs. Including ours. It will continue to be felt by the high school and JuCo ranks until all the players that benefited from the "free year" get older, graduate and move on.

Re: New commit?
Emmett White, after learning from experience, could train coaches on how to wisely use freshman years of eligibility. It is a good thing there's the four game rule now though like we didn't have in Emmett's time.aggies22 wrote: ↑February 4th, 2021, 11:22 amIt IS THE Emmett White! It's hard for me to imagine anyone ever breaking his NCAA record of 578 all purpose yards in a single game.

I don't believe so. He also has an RM brother named Kaden that is hoping to secure a walk-on spot on the 2021 team.CaptainChaos wrote: ↑February 5th, 2021, 11:05 amAny relation to Dougaggies22 wrote: ↑February 4th, 2021, 11:53 amWe are going to be getting one more walk-on. Tanner and Kaden have some solid aggie roots. There grandfather is credited for writing the Scotsman Song. At least that was what I read on the web.

Re: New commit?
If a high school athlete puts in the hard work to get a chance to play college football I see nothing wrong with him some recognition and announcing where he is going to try to play. I would have loved to say I played college ball. Unfortunately I had no talent.

I think it's fine. The kids that earn these opportunities work hard and it's okay for them to be excited. I'm a dork, so I want an idea of who is going to be on the team no matter what. So I like the announcements.

Re: New commit?
Any kid that wants to be an Aggie, and is willing to pay his way through it, deserves the red carpet treatment.
Make the announcement and make them feel like a million bucks. No need to be small guys.

It’s most definitely not weird. It’s still an honor for these kids to be given a spot on the team. Typically these kids aren’t as gifted athletically but are being rewarded for immense hard work. Let them celebrate it! They deserve it.

Do any of these "PWO" kids ever get cut pre season ? Is there any real difference between them and a kid who just shows up and and makes the team ?Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑February 6th, 2021, 9:57 pmIt’s most definitely not weird. He's a PWO after a mission pending there is a roster spot available. I would assume he'll be moved to linebacker and they'll try and get about 25 to 30lbs on him.SasquatchAggie wrote: ↑February 8th, 2021, 9:32 amI have seen that Kace Jones from Bear River HS has signed. I believe as a PWO also.
