Uh I don’t know, maybe slow down with bringing the ball up the court and set up the offense? We sprinted up the floor the entire game and took poor/rushed shots

Re: Craig smith
Craig is awesome. This was a bad loss caused entirely by an insanely bad shooting performance. CBS Sports should have pulled out the Benny Hill music during our offensive possessions in the second half.
I just hope to hell we respond on Wednesday and UNLV keeps winning so this can become a Q2 rather than Q3 loss. Right now our tourney hopes are on life support.

Craig Smith is a phenomenal basketball coach & we’re lucky to have him. This loss wasn’t on him tonight. And even if you still think it was, the only reason you think we should be going into UNLV and absolutely winning the game is because the results Craig Smith has produced.Agzrule wrote: ↑January 25th, 2021, 9:37 pmWhat exactly do you disagree with? Re: Craig smith
This was a tough loss for sure, but the players need to make plays. I do wish Smith called more offensive sets to get people open looks. After the first 10 minutes it was clear Brock was not getting any looks I would have like to see some sets to get him open, catch and shoot looks. Our 3 point shooting was horrendous, but overall most of them were really wide open looks that we need to knock down. Although Bean should probably not take 3, three point shots a game. It was frustrating, but the team will get better. As with last year this team will go as far as our 3 point shooting takes us. If we shoot >35% from 3 with generally the way we rebound and play defense we will win most games.

Re: Craig smith
I will also throw in 2 layups that we missed because Bairstow could not control the ball and lost it. I love Bairstow and overall he has made improvements, but he struggles with ball security when going up for shots. Those 2 fast breaks would have been huge.

Don't waste your breath Mr. Roy. Some people just don't get it. Especially if they are willing to compare Smith to our last coach..... I mean Smith has only taken us to NCAA tournament back to back. I mean, anyone can do that.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑January 25th, 2021, 9:39 pmCraig Smith is a phenomenal basketball coach & we’re lucky to have him. This loss wasn’t on him tonight. Re: Craig smith
I seriously think this will become a Q2 loss and that UNLV will finish in the top 4 or 5 of the conference. I think UNLV is underrated. UNLV is a well coached, athletic team. They missed 4 games in a row due to cancellations/postponements and now they're starting to gel. They played CSU immediately after missing over a month of playing games and they played tough at CSU dropping both games by just 3 points. They're on a five game winning streak and they don't play SDSU this year but they do have Boise in Boise. We need to get the win tonight and then I would love to see SDSU go undefeated the rest of the season and UNLV to win the rest of their games with the exception of splitting a game at Boise.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑January 25th, 2021, 9:31 pmCraig is awesome. Re: Craig smith
The Aggies shot 32%, had about 20 Turnovers, missed key free throws, and UNLV had about 8 more 3 point makes and the game still came down to the last possession. Not saying lightning won't strike twice or the Aggies funk won't continue but I wouldn't bet on it.Aggie in Boise wrote: ↑January 26th, 2021, 9:24 amI seriously think this will become a Q2 loss and that UNLV will finish in the top 4 or 5 of the conference. Re: Make an extra pass on O and extend the D (not you Nimi!)
Smith is a great coach, you know he told them exactly what to do. The players are still too fat headed from winning 11? straight to take the coaching.
It might take another game for the wisdom to sink in, but I doubt it.

I know right? This thread was not one of our bright spots. Some comments were very cougarboard-esque. College basketball has a lot of games. We were bound to have an off night. Even the best of coaches can't avoid that. Craig Smith is a dang good coach and I'm glad to have him even before last night's win.

This seems like a coolag sort of thread. Just the right amount of anger and excessive cynicism.
Re: Craig smith
While a lot of this is true, Craig made adjustments. 1. He ran more set plays for the offense and 2. He played Ashworth a lot less because he was turning the ball over a lot and missing shots.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑January 27th, 2021, 11:10 pmYep, the gameplan was fine the other night and it was great tonight. So while making shots was a large part of why we won Wednesday and lost Monday, Craig also changed philosophy because he needed to.

I think Ashworth's limited minutes had more to do with Rollie having a career night and near triple-double.
