Couldn't find the other topic thread.
Another player we are "showing interest in" which is as close as we get to offering someone.

Not to discredit your find my Aggie brother but this Lieberman kid is a sophomore in high school who is an aspiring recruiting guru.

I know. He does a pretty dam good job though. I wonder if he ever goes to school. I try and confirm all of the ones I find with the actual recruit somehow. That being said USU recruiting news is so sparse I treat this kid like Woj

Nothing. The kid was on an unofficial visit. Re: 2021/2022 Recruits
My younger siblings and parents are really good friends with a 6’ 5” shooting guard (HS senior) whose dad said USU has offered or will offer.
They are a big BYU family but they said BYU hasn’t shown commitment in their recruitment of him. He’d likely be a mission kid so we wouldn’t see him for three years.

Re: 2021/2022 Recruits
Also seems like Craig's type. I'd be okay taking a flyer on a 6'5 mission kid that can catch oops. Both of these guys seem pretty lightly recruited. That worked out great with Queta and Worster, but not really any other "diamonds in the rough" Craig has recruited so far. I'll trust Craig.aggies22 wrote: ↑January 19th, 2021, 7:11 amInteresting. Re: 2021/2022 Recruits
The Finlinson kid seems to have that good combination of length, skill, shooting, play making ability, and confidence/swagger. A mission would do him well to mature his frame more. I prefer him over the Cali kid tbh.

Re: 2021/2022 Recruits
I feel like this team really needs to add an athletic forward to the team next year to fill the void for when Queta & Fonso are gone.
That would be my far and away #1 focus in recruiting for next season.

Curtis Condie is no longer coaching there, from what I understand.

Curtis was forced out so that a byu homer could be installed as the head coach. Curtis is currently the coach at USU Eastern in Price.

Aggies22 Do you or anybody know what Fonz is thinking for next year. If he is thinking of coming back or if he’s ready to move on. And any word on McChesney and how his health is progressing?

Re: 2021/2022 Recruits
If, and I think he will, Queta leaves, I don't feel confident that Zapala will be ready to carry the load and Dorius is adequate as a backup D1 post. So that leaves us with needing a (insert drum roll) a i r c r a f t c a r r i e r.

Re: 2021/2022 Recruits
Dorius isn't Queta. But he made a jump from last year to this one. He'll keep developing and I think he'll be capable of being a starter next year. He's got a lot going for him: size, aggression, familiarity with the system... People keep counting Dorius out because he's not Queta. Zapala has a lot of promise. But he's young and unrefined. He'll get there, too. The loss of Queta will be difficult, but I think Dorius and Zapala are both good future-looking players. Even if we didn't get another big man, Dorius, Zapala, Anderson isn't a bad line.
If we could recruit a young sensation for any position, we should take it. But I don't think things are as dire as it might seem, as there's some good talent in there right now. Also, I guess I'm just assuming no Kuba (at least with PT).

Re: 2021/2022 Recruits
Dorius has some abilty. He needs to work on his hands and positioning, but he could be a serviceable center. He is strong and is not clumsy. He has no range at all, but he wouldn't be called on to be a scorer, necessarily. Go watch the SDSU game from Saturday. He had the ball at the foul line on the left side of the key. There was a brief double-team from the guard that was guarding Ashworth. Dorius paused, waited for Ashworth's guy to turn his head and Ashworth to slide to the left, then Dorius made a no-look pass to Ashworth for an open three-pointer (which he made - his second of the game). That was a fine basketball play by Dorius and showed me that he has some skill, IQ, and passing ability to help this team. I could see USU using a lot more "small" lineups next year if we are left with Zapala and Dorius at the center position, but I would not pooh-pooh Dorius playing a lot more minutes.

Re: 2021/2022 Recruits
My thoughts exactly. I almost look at it like they are just waiting for USU to offer and accept to just rub it in BYU's face and if something opens up at BYU they bolt. Now once they get on campus and working with our coaching staff we have had more luck it seems but you never know if they will go the Kyle Davis route and boltChupamedia wrote: ↑January 19th, 2021, 2:39 pmMission kids who’s family are big BYU fans make me nervous. A high percentage of kids transfer now though, it’s not just a Usu to BYU thing. I’d still go after who you feel is best.SpectrumMagic wrote: ↑January 19th, 2021, 4:52 pmMy thoughts exactly. Re: 2021/2022 Recruits
But Kyle Davis is a rare case. How many good Aggie players have transferred to byu in the last 20 years? We've had success with some great players from Utah county. I'm sure byu would have loved to have Tai Wesley. A Utah county player whose older brother was a byu legend, yet he stayed and became an Aggie legend. He did this playing along with Tyler Newbold another great player from Utah county.SpectrumMagic wrote: ↑January 19th, 2021, 4:52 pmMy thoughts exactly.
