Summarizing the new transfers / recruits
So far, the new staff has done the following:
• Recruited the projected MW defensive player of the year in the LB transfer from Arkansas State.
• Recruited a B12 starting CB from Kansas.
• Recruited a B12 starting OLineman from TCU.
• Recruited a starting quality QB from Arkansas State.
• Recruited a former 4 star prospect from Miami.
• Recruited a starting quality slot receiver from Arkansas State.
This has been pretty dang fun to watch unfold. Will this rebuild even take a year?
Am I missing any impact players recruited so far?
(Turns out I was missing a 3-4 star Texas Longhorn LB + a JC Dlineman that Arkansas State was after.)

Re: Summarizing the new transfers / recruits
You left out a 3-4 star LB prospect from Texas
And yes, this rebuild will take time.

I agree it will take some time. That being said I think the team can be pretty competitive next year.

Re: Summarizing the new transfers / recruits
If the rebuild does take time I’ll be sympathetic to it, but I think we’re going to shock some people next season.
I think there’s still some talent holes on the roster but I think the coaching staff will identify those in spring ball and bring in a few more pieces to fill those holes and we’ll be ready to go.

Re: Summarizing the new transfers / recruits
I just hope the staff does not make the same mistake as we did with Shelly. Transfers will have to compete with our returning players for playing time and no preference treatment will be given to them.

Define rebuild.
I wouldn’t be completely shocked to be bowl eligible next season. I would be shocked to compete for a mwc championship.
That’s my bold prediction for the year.

Re: Summarizing the new transfers / recruits
When Anderson was hired, I said that 4 wins is the floor and 6 wins is the ceiling for next year. But with the staff and transfers that have come in, that ceiling is slowly feeling closer to 8. The floor isn't moving cause I recognize that its still a rebuild but im seeing why we could do pretty well. At least "lose close."

Re: Summarizing the new transfers / recruits
I think a nice stretch goal is 6 wins and a bowl game. We should be able to go 2-2 at a minimum in our non-conference games as I don’t see us losing to either North Dakota or NMSU. Going 4-4 in league games won’t be easy but doable. May depend on which games are at home and which are away.

Re: Summarizing the new transfers / recruits
I wouldn't be shocked if we next year, in contrast to this year, and like we should every year, have more passing yards against Air Force than we give up to them. And have more rushing yards against Washington State than we give up to them. But I would be shocked to have more rushing yards against Air Force than we give up to them, and more passing yards against Washington State than we give up to them.Imakeitrain wrote: ↑January 18th, 2021, 8:34 pmDefine rebuild.

Re: Summarizing the new transfers / recruits
I think we should be able to go 4-0 against ND, @NMSU, @New Mexico, and @UNLV. Realistically we will go 0-4 @Wazzu, BYU, @SJSU, and Boise State. That leaves us with a hopeful 2-2 @AF, vs CSU, vs Hawaii, and vs Wyoming. It is a good sign that we get 3 of those games at home.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑January 19th, 2021, 9:23 amI think a nice stretch goal is 6 wins and a bowl game. I am not sure why people are so sure we will lose to Wazzu? People realize that Mike Leach left right? WSU is my second team and I can tell you that they have plenty of issues too. I would have WSU firmly in the Toss-up category next year.thegreendalegelf wrote: ↑January 19th, 2021, 1:28 pmI think we should be able to go 4-0 against ND, @NMSU, @New Mexico, and @UNLV. Which of the two North Dakota teams is the FCS powerhouse? NDSU or North Dakota?

Re: Summarizing the new transfers / recruits
When we push forward, is that just a robbing Peter to pay Paul scholarship wise thing or does it have real impact on when a player can participate with the team?

Re: Summarizing the new transfers / recruits
In a nutshell, when you still have room under the 85 scholarship limit you can add scholarship players to the roster on August 1st. When that occurs you are borrowing scholarships from your next recruiting class which would be 2022.
So yes, it would have an impact because a player can be added that can play during the 2021 season.

Re: Summarizing the new transfers / recruits
Normally yes, but we have an incredibly small junior class! Correct me if I’m wrong 22, but I think we can sign the max amount of players this coming year and still not have a full roster. The last staff did a really poor job at spreading out the class sizes. We have a bunch of seniors and a solid sized group of underclass man but very few juniors.
