SDSU/BSU to the AAC?
I know it has been mentioned that BSU was courting the AAC when the MW decided to suspend the football season. This is the first that I have seen SDSU joining BSU in actively engaging in talks with the AAC. Article was published yesterday.
https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports ... 155906001/
Does this have legs? It would be a pretty big blow to the conference to lose two of its flagship athletic programs.

SDSU fans on their board were talking about this yesterday and essentially said they would prefer the MW.

It would be a massive blow to lose them both. I doubt it happens. AAC is better, but not by enough to justify the move.

Watch Hair invite Houston and Tulsa to the MWC now, you know he'd try it.

I'm not sure what the buy out is but I know that when Boise and SDSU agreed to rejoin the MWC, there was a hefty buy out put in place to avoid future shenanigans.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑January 15th, 2021, 11:46 amIt would be a massive blow to lose them both. Re: SDSU/BSU to the AAC?
would the state of California allow SDSU to join the AAC? I would think they would have issue with the carbon footprint with the increased travel to AAC locations.

And he absolutely should be proactive. But more so BYU and Houston. BYU is the biggest tv draw of all these schools and they are in our geographical footprint. The mw should actively in poaching a school from the aac in Texas along with BYU.

Re: SDSU/BSU to the AAC?
We could not get YBU to join when BSU and SDS were in the conference there is no chance the y will join now. No AAC schools will join the conference.
Possible new members will be North Texas, Texas State.

Re: SDSU/BSU to the AAC?
I have broken the code!! You can make people do things you want or prevent them from doing things you don't like if you frame your argument as if you are doing so in the name of the environment, children, or a minority group. If you can do that, the world is yours.
My post about carbon footprint was tongue-in-cheek, given California's commitment to leading the world in environmental protection (at least that is the story they are selling). I would think a small but vocal group complaining to lawmakers could really throw a wrench in this plan. That would really be a burr in the SDSU saddle.

Re: SDSU/BSU to the AAC?
Bozo and SDSU to the AAC would be a lateral move with increased travel costs, sounds absolutely silly to me. But if they were stupid enough to leave, I say add NMSU and Hawaii as a full members and call it good. If Hawaii doesn't want to join, kick them out as a FB only member and look elsewhere. My guess is that they'll want to join.slcagg wrote: ↑January 15th, 2021, 12:29 pmBoise and SDSU are still in the conference last time I checked.oleblu111 wrote: ↑January 15th, 2021, 12:24 pmWe could not get YBU to join when BSU and SDS were in the conference there is no chance the y will join now. Re: SDSU/BSU to the AAC?
And this is why the mwc should be trying their best to get BYU and Houston and maybe 1-2 more if necessary. However our AD doesn’t seem to think towards the future.
And yea oleblu I’m aware they probably wouldn’t come but we still should be having those conversations and showing SDSU Boise and others that it’s a possibility without all the travel costs.

I'll say it again, Thompson needs to convince Gonzaga and maybe St. Marry's to come over in Bball. It would have major repercussions in Football.

Re: SDSU/BSU to the AAC?
Just to bring things into focus for them, the remaining members of the conference should agree that, if they leave, they won’t schedule bsu or sdsu in any sport. Make the travel expense hurt as much as possible.

Re: SDSU/BSU to the AAC?
Not at all, here's my reasoning. Obviously, it'll add prestige to the conference and (perhaps) increase our TV revenue next time we negotiate or (re-negotiate). But more importantly, by taking the zags and gales from the WCC essentially torpedoing that league, it removes the only viable landing spot for Bosie, SDSU, or BYU's non-football sports making it less likely for them to join the AAC as football only.Jayzep wrote: ↑January 15th, 2021, 4:19 pmNot unless they are willing to add football!!!OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑January 15th, 2021, 4:09 pmI'll say it again, Thompson needs to convince Gonzaga and maybe St. Marry's to come over in Bball. Better overall competition in basketball and other sports (top to bottom), playing in better venues, a larger geographical footprint, more TV revenue (potentially). They flirted with it last year or the year before I believe.utaggies wrote: ↑January 15th, 2021, 4:44 pmAnd remind me of the advantages Gonzaga and St. Marys would have by moving their basketball teams to the MWC?OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑January 15th, 2021, 4:09 pmI'll say it again, Thompson needs to convince Gonzaga and maybe St. Marry's to come over in Bball. Re: SDSU/BSU to the AAC?
I don't see San Diego State moving to AAC in football only. They're more of a basketball school than football school, and basketball would suffer being in the Big West or WAC. WCC is a non-option because they only take private schools. Unless the AAC's going to take them in all sports, I don't see it happening for San Diego State.

Per discussion on their board, Big West isn't interested in them either -- it added UC San Diego this year and wouldn't want to add another team in the same city.Aggiealum13 wrote: ↑January 16th, 2021, 8:47 amI don't see San Diego State moving to AAC in football only.
