Re: New Commit!
I was in wait-and-see mode when Blake was first announced, and I realize we're only a month into this, but, I gotta say, I am extremely impressed so far.

Re: New Commit!
but he gets this year back, right?
- enrolled 2018 (red shirt year?)
- played 2019 (RS freshman year?)
- played & entered transfer portal 2020 (RS sophomore year, but should be a freebie?)
either way, I am STOKED! Let's get it!

Re: New Commit!
While my first love are the Aggies I’m also a UT season ticket holder and follow the Horns closely. He will be a nice player for the Aggies. He played Jack at UT, similar to an Elephant backer in traditional 4-3. He was buried at UT so I’m glad he is moving on. He was a bit undersized but made some great plays on STs. I agree that I could see him fitting into a great rush end in Logan. Good get!JFW_AGGIES wrote: ↑January 5th, 2021, 6:47 pmOn his Twitter he has a highlight video from UT, je played a lot on special teams a some on D. Re: New Commit!
These offers went out prior to the dead period beginning. The dead period only prohibits schools from talking to players. It does NOT prohibit players from making verbal commitments.

When does the dead period end? Just wondering when staff can start making offers and contacting recruits again. Isn't the next signing period in February?

Re: New Commit!
I'm enjoying the beginnings of watching this coaching staff shatter so many of the myths that have been sold by previous regimes that weren't good at their jobs.
Logan is not hard to recruit.
USU is a desirable place both athletically and academically.
USU has excellent facilities compared to most.
Cold/Warm weather is not a deciding factor on where kids go to school.
We don't have to recruit a small niche of players to overcome these "disadvantages."
We should never have accepted settling with these excuses, and now we are in the early stages of seeing why.

Re: New Commit!
Not being a downer, just a real question. It is nice that he was a 4 * guy out of High School, but if he was so talented why is he leaving Texas? If his chances of seeing the field were low there, is he really a game changer here?
Again I know good players do transfer, just curious more on his backstory.

Re: New Commit!
Part could be recruiting rankings aren’t always accurate. Part of it could be he is surrounded by other 4 stars (he is young, could be older 4 stars). Either way I love this kids physical and athletic traits. We don’t get many kids like this often.NowhereLandAggie wrote: ↑January 6th, 2021, 10:18 amNot being a downer, just a real question. Hey negative Nancy! Stop trying to piss in our cheerios!
My bet is playing time. But Maybe he didn't like what the new coaching staff was doing at Texas. . Maybe he wanted to ski beav.
For me, It's easy to get excited about these transfers. For the most part (with 1 big exception) when we've brought in these p5 transfers, it usually works out well for us. Especially when they address some glaring needs.

Re: New Commit!
I'm sure there are others more familiar with the Texas program that could answer your question better than I, but this is my take. He was a 3* player that had tremendous upside coming out of high school but was a little lean and needed a redshirt year to put on weight. He was about 216 and coaches said he needed to get to 240-250 to play the role they wanted him to play. I think he also had some HS injuries to recover from perhaps. Then for his RS Fr season he was behind some upperclassmen and didn't play much OLB but was a regular on special teams as he was still bulking up. Then this last season he opted out and didn't end up playing and entered the portal mid-season.NowhereLandAggie wrote: ↑January 6th, 2021, 10:18 amNot being a downer, just a real question. Not sure why he is leaving Texas but I do know Texas had a couple top 5 recruiting classes after Byron was recruited and there were some high rated players at his position signed. Maybe he didn't see himself surpassing some of them. I also know Herman made some big shake-ups in the coaching staff prior to last season and then again some writing on the wall this season. There has also been some negative recruiting going on from within the UT program and some unhappy players under Herman's watch. He may just be looking for a better situation. I also read that Anderson had recruited him to ASU out of high school and already had a relationship established. He may have transferred to ASU had Anderson still been there. Either way, I think we are getting a difference maker at the MW level. Watching what limited film there is of him out there, it is very aparent that he is exceptionally athletic for his size and has great wingspan. I've read that Vaughn is up to 235-240 lbs and over 6'4". I'm envisioning a reincarnation of Tipa.
