Elijah Jackson Local LB Recruit 605 Squat
Elijah Jackson is the son of former USU LB Justin Jackson and grandson of Seattle Seahawks Ring of Honor LB Mike Jackson. (Can't coach genetics, either you have some...)

Re: Elijah Jackson Local LB Recruit 605 Squat
I used to work with Justin right after his playing days. I didn’t realize he stayed in Cache Valley...that’s great. That’s a great squat for a HS kid be interesting to see what happens to this kid.

Air Force has offered Elijah. Hope we can land LB Elijah Jackson and WR Jalen Sargent. Both terrific local athletes with Air Force offers.

I wanted to bring this kid back up. Is the new staff interested? My nephew is good friends with him and thinks he would sign if offered. As of now the nephew thinks he's leaning to Air Force or taking the PWO at Cal.

All the coaching staff has to do is pick up the phone. Is the phone not working or something?

I say it is a must to have this guy on our team. He is strong. He is quick. He is fast. He is smart. HE IS LOCAL!!!
If we don’t recruit him hard...I question the direction the new staff has for recruiting,

Well technically they can’t call anyone currently guys until the dead period is over. But probably worth sending on his info to the staff.

Re: Elijah Jackson Local LB Recruit 605 Squat
I've been working with Elijah for MONTHS. I just BARELY talked to him. As soon as the new staff returns from Christmas vacations, they will be made VERY aware of him.

Re: Elijah Jackson Local LB Recruit 605 Squat
How fast is he? You need speed at that position to go with the strength. Heavy legs usually mean slower feet. If he has speed - absolutely the Aggies should go after him.

The new staff has such a hole to dig out of after the prior regime pretty much gave up on recruiting....

Sad, but true. From reports it sounds like they gave up recruiting 3-4 months ago. To me that is crazy, I know there are COVID restrictions, but to just flat out not recruit is not acceptable. The lifeblood of any program is recruiting, that is not hard to figure out.

He’s a punisher. We need a few of those. Let’s sign him. He’s also plenty smart and plays with good instincts and tackles well.

At a minimum we should offer him a PWO spot and then he for sure can get a full ride academic scholarship. Seems like a person who has a lot of drive and has the potential to be really good.

I'm glad someone called him on it. Not a safe place for a spotter too. When I fail on a squat, that bar rolls right off my back.
We need this kid.

Re: Elijah Jackson Local LB Recruit 605 Squat
That’s some big boy weight and great highlights. so i don’t want to take away from those accomplishments.
But this video demonstrates why high school lifting programs need to be reevaluated and I especially think oly style lifts should be banned at the hs level unless there is a dedicated cscs or nasm pea on site and overseeing it.
Olympic style lifts are risky and largely unnecessary.
The typical Hs weight room - at least in my day - is a few coaches not paying much attention and teammates doing much of the oversight.
Also granted there is a lot of weight: I’m not a fan of lifting belts in hs. Athletes have a natural weight belt called the transverse abdominis. At least his appears to fit.
And again, there is a lot of weight on that bar- that’s not always a good thing. I don’t believe in lifting more than the rest of your body can support due to the increased risk esp. at a young age.
But still very impressive. My gripe isn’t with him- it’s with what I view as dangerous lifting culture at high schools across the country.

Re: Elijah Jackson Local LB Recruit 605 Squat
I'm pretty sure we can't do that. A year and a half ago, I talked to John Hartwell about my nephew's kid, who is currently a freshman at Virginia, and a Jefferson Scholar (Equivalent of USU's presidential scholarship, 4 year full ride academic scholarship). The kid wanted to run on the track team, and is probably good enough to make the team. At the time, he was still considering USU. John told me there is a little bit of wiggle room with academic scholarships in the non-revenue sports, but not in football or men's basketball. There is too much room for abuse. You can just imagine someone like Alabama taking a 2 star athlete, good enough to get a scholarship at USU, but a PWO for them, with a 2.5 GPA and a 750 SAT score, and miraculously, the kid gets an academic scholarship! It isn't fair to the academically gifted student athletes, but that's the world we live in.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 7:06 pmAt a minimum we should offer him a PWO spot and then he for sure can get a full ride academic scholarship. Re: Elijah Jackson Local LB Recruit 605 Squat
My schedule used to align with the Logan high free period where football players would be in the weight room. Everyday I would ask “would you accept some coaching?” because guys were lifting like Don jr.Imakeitrain wrote:That’s some big boy weight and great highlights. so i don’t want to take away from those accomplishments.

It's one more reason why Frank didn't deserve the HC job, and why we shouldn't be retaining anyone. I really wonder what he was thinking. If get's the job, he's set himself back a year or more?Aggie84025 wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 4:22 pmSad, but true. From reports it sounds like they gave up recruiting 3-4 months ago. I think the only one on the staff that showed they could recruit was Stacy Collins, and he isn't being retained.

In all fairness, once GA was fired, Frank was in survival mode for a couple months there. Between keeping his current team focused, maneuvering COVID, and game planning with a minimal staff, it’s no wonder we wasn’t able to recruit much. I think he did a good job considering the circumstances. If it wasn’t for this whole he said she said fiasco with Cockett and the players, we would be singing Frank praises for how he handled a tough situation.Sl7vk wrote:It's one more reason why Frank didn't deserve the HC job, and why we shouldn't be retaining anyone. Re: Elijah Jackson Local LB Recruit 605 Squat
That's a HUGE *if* and Frank did absolutely nothing to head off the dumpster fire - instead he jumped on board and is attempting to ride the wave of "anger" to some settlement. I would have been first in line to thank Frank for a job well done in a tough circumstance - if he had done a good job! :-(AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑December 30th, 2020, 2:56 pmIn all fairness, once GA was fired, Frank was in survival mode for a couple months there. But put the focus back on the potential recruit! I would love to see him playing for the Aggies!
