If we get Nathan and Tompkins back that's a good start, but we do need one or two really good receivers on the outside.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 10:12 amI hope we can get some additional receiver weapons to put around Bonner because he was spoiled at Arky State. Although we do have a few nice play makers he may have a rude awakening unless BA and Cefalo can pull in a few more.
Based on Bonners ASU stats I assumed he wasn’t much of a runner but he did run the ball plenty in high school.

What did you think of our 6’6” guy this year? (Sorry can’t remember the name). I felt like maybe he lacked effort. But maybe a better passing game will motivate him. And with that said I’d def like more guys here as well.Blitz79 wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 10:16 amIf we get Nathan and Tompkins back that's a good start, but we do need one or two really good receivers on the outside.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 10:12 amI hope we can get some additional receiver weapons to put around Bonner because he was spoiled at Arky State. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Re: New QB
McGriff. I don't believe it was a lack of effort at all. He is really raw, but super athletic. I know a lot of the players really liked Jason Phillips but I don't feel like he did much to develop our guys. Cefalo will be a different story.slcagg wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 10:18 amWhat did you think of our 6’6” guy this year? (Sorry can’t remember the name). I felt like maybe he lacked effort. Re: New QB
Are you talking McGriff? I was disappointed in his production this year. I didn't think he was a great route runner and had a tough time getting open. He couldn't get separation and was underutilized in short yardage situations. He was a guy that I was really hoping would thrive here and take over the role Ron'Quavion Tarver had but McGriff was well short of that type of production.slcagg wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 10:18 amWhat did you think of our 6’6” guy this year? Re: New QB
TBH I’m not sure the whole story about Caleb Bonner this season. I know he had 60-70 tackles last year and was originally a strong safety coming out of high school. I’m not sure when he moved to linebacker. He’s not the star that Rice is but would be an experienced piece that could help supplement some of our young studs. We are needing experienced help at safety too so maybe he could play there.slcagg wrote:Why did Justin rice a preseason defensive player of the year for the mwc transfer to Arkansas state? Caleb Bonner, what do you like about him? 24 tackles this year is all. Maybe injured?

Re: New QB
If I read it correctly he got injured after 4 games in the 2019 season. Prior to that injury he had passed for over 1000 yards with 10td's and only 1 interception. 2020 seems a litte bit of a mixed bag, but overall he is for sure an upgrade in the passing department.
Does anyone know if he is completely healed from that hand injury? Overall he seems like an upgrade over Peasley and should fit well in coach BA's offense. Welcome aboard Logan.

Re: New QB
That wouldn't surprise me but I hope it doesn't happen. Peasly just might be the perfect QB to run Anderson's uptempo RPO style attack. Coincidentally, I drove through LeGrand, Oregon the other day on our way to Cache Valley. Logan is a metropolis in comparison!
BTW any news on Cooper Legas? Will he stick it out?

Couldn’t find a decent compilation of Bonner’s ASU highlights but here’s some high school footage. Lots of RPO in there.

Re: New QB
It wouldn't surprise me at all and is what is to be expected in the new age of college football. Whether he deserves to be or not, I'm sure Peasley believes he should be the starter next year. New coach that didn't recruit him brings in one of his former QBs means he probably won't be.

Re: New QB
This is probably accurate. I feel a lot better about Bonner coming in than Shelley. I was really sad to see Columbi go and I don't want Peasley to go, but I think Bonner is an upgrade over Peasley where Shelley was a downgrade over Columbi.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 11:21 amIt wouldn't surprise me at all and is what is to be expected in the new age of college football. New QB
There are a ton of QB’s in the portal right now and I’m not sure he would be able to upgrade programs or even put himself into a better position to be a contributor than if he stays here. At least BA has shown he isn’t afraid to split time between multiple qb’s. Unless Peasley is possibly looking to transfer to FCS. I hope he sticks around because I think BA will find a way to get him onto the field.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote:It wouldn't surprise me at all and is what is to be expected in the new age of college football. Re: New QB
I hope he sticks around too, but I agree with Mr 22 that I wouldn't be at all surprised if he left. As you say, there are tons of quarterbacks in the portal. In the modern age of college football very few guys who believe they should be starting stay at a school where they aren't starting. We've seen that over and over at USU over the last decade.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 11:38 amThere are a ton of QB’s in the portal right now and I’m not sure he would be able to upgrade programs or even put himself into a better position to be a contributor than if he stays here. Re: New QB
Arkstfan is the football guru with the numbers and such, but you can easily compare his season numbers to Adams. Just keep in mind, Bonner split time with Hatcher.
Bonner’s long ball is one of the best I’ve seen at ASU. Y’all will be pleased with his accuracy. It would be nice to know of his 6 ints how many were catchable, and the WR failed him.
I just wish I could have seen him get all the snaps.

Re: New QB
Seems this is a good gap filler. I don't mean that disparagingly. BA has to hold things together best he can, and if his QB comes available, it gives BA plug and play stability at the most important position next year, so he doesn't have to worry about it in 2021. He'll have enough to worry about. The QB situation was a disaster this year. This will push the other QB's and hopefully, one of them, or a new comer, will step up and take us to the next level in 2022. The only thing I'm worried about is the dynamics. Hopefully BA is better at managing it than GA was at managing Shelley's transfer. If this new guy can't win over the current team, and if the current team believes Peasely "deserves" the spot, then we could be in for Shelley 2.0. Throwing a transfer QB into the mix is one thing, but if he's the teacher's pet from a previous life, it's a whole other deal.

Re: New QB
I think those are valid points. Hopefully it is a true competition. One thing is for certain is its not like Peasley was just lighting it up while here. The NM game he was good, but they are just plain bad. Against AF he was very pedestrian. Bonner also has 2 years to play. As long as BA plays the person that truly wins the job and does not play favorites I am confident the team will rally around Bonner (assuming he is the guy).BigBlueBlood wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 2:07 pmSeems this is a good gap filler. 137 QBR the last 2 years. He will be solid. I bet he starts and does well. I’m glad to have him. Peasely was not the answer. Plug and play is a good description for this transfer.
Zach Wilson had a 130 QBR last year, but, is 190 this year.
