Re: New QB
i kind of figured that would happen. was hoping for someone a little more high profile although his stats seem to be solid. seems like he will be able to run Blakes offense pretty well.

So this is why we never gave that Washington QB a call huh?
Unfortunate.

Re: New QB
Say what you want, his stats the last two years are really solid. The Washington kid was nice, but all he was was a rating. completely unproven thus far, at least with Bonner he's proven he can do it. Hope he makes us better

He looks like a solid QB. Hopefully it's a good (and fair) battle between him and Peasley.

Re: New QB
You guys pining over the Washington guy are nuts. You take the proven D1 starter over high school accolades always.
Jake Heaps, anyone? I too was intrigued with the Washington guy on paper. But once I found out he was an upperclassman behind two freshmen on the depth chart, I was okay that we passed on him.

I mean...I agree with you on this...but...there are plenty of very successful players that had very high, high school accolades as well...ineptimusprime wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 8:51 amYou guys pining over the Washington guy are nuts. Re: New QB
Its not that simple. Look at Utah, they have like 5, four star guys at QB. You're telling me the four guys behind the starter can't play? I highly doubt it.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 8:51 amYou guys pining over the Washington guy are nuts. You take the proven D1 starter over high school accolades always.

Now, the wisdom of those guys choosing to go to Utah when the the QB room is already STACKED, Instead of a school like Arkansas State is a whole other topic.

Re: New QB
Bonner was part of a two qb rotation this season at Arky State. Either Bonner wasn’t head and shoulders better than the other guy, or BA liked the idea that the opposition would need to prepare for two qb’s. I bet BA will find a way to get Peasley involved as he’s one of our weapons.

Re: New QB
Maybe you are right or wrong, but the same logic you used could've been applied to Justin Fields at Georgia or Joe Burrow at Ohio State and they are both superstars.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 8:56 amNot sure if serious....2004AG wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 8:55 amIts not that simple. Re: New QB
That's how I feel, could be right, could be wrong, I thought it was worth the gamble. Could even say it's equivalent to Joe Burrow...who ended up being a superstar and was picked #1 in the draft...Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 9:11 amMaybe you are right or wrong, but the same logic you used could've been applied to Justin Fields at Georgia and yet he's an absolute superstar.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 8:56 amNot sure if serious....2004AG wrote: ↑December 29th, 2020, 8:55 amIts not that simple. Any chance either of the Arky State linebackers that are in the portal are interested in following Anderson. Both Justin Rice and Caleb Bonner are pretty good.

Re: New QB
Imagine having 2 nearly identical QBs, which one do you sit?
Many stAte fans believed he was the better of the 2. Many games, their stats were nearly identical.
Y’all will not be disappointed. He’s a great QB.

And I guess I should reiterate. I'm excited to have a seasoned QB come in and put some pressure in our QB room and provide some leadership to the younger guys. This guy seems like a good QB, I was just hopeful to have a potentially better QB...

If our present three QB's are as good as we told them they were when they were recruited them, we now must recruit another 2-3 to have back ups. QB = the best and worst position in modern FB.

I hope we can get some additional receiver weapons to put around Bonner because he was spoiled at Arky State. Although we do have a few nice play makers he may have a rude awakening unless BA and Cefalo can pull in a few more.
Based on Bonners ASU stats I assumed he wasn’t much of a runner but he did run the ball plenty in high school.

Why did Justin rice a preseason defensive player of the year for the mwc transfer to Arkansas state? He is from Modesto. I’d be curious to hear the story here. Caleb Bonner, what do you like about him? 24 tackles this year is all. Maybe injured?
