Re: Harsin to Auburn
In theory, it would be bad for the MWC to have Boise hire a bad coach but they're so full of themselves I actually think it would be good for the conference.
Here's to this being true and Boise hiring a stinker to replace him.

Naw. They’ll probably go for Avalos or something. If not, then here’s to another round of not hiring Jay Hill

Re: Harsin to Auburn
Any chance the admin risks a coaching change and conference change simultaneously? I think the risks are too high for them to do both.

Re: Harsin to Auburn
They aren’t changing conferences. That rumor has already been put to bed. AD at BSU won’t pursue a football only membership in the AAC because they don’t have a landing spot for basketball and Olympic sports. WAC and WCC have both said “no thanks”.
As for Harsin, I hope he does get the Auburn gig. That cry baby is a cancer on this conference. Noisy Boise will continue to be a headache for Thompson and the MWC, but I suspect they’ll be slightly less annoying without Bryan and his public email tantrums.

They can go higher than Jay Hill, but maybe they will take someone who is replaced by Jay Hill.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑December 22nd, 2020, 3:58 pmNaw. They’ll probably go for Avalos or something. If not, then here’s to another round of not hiring Jay Hill

I'd bet Moore or Avalos over the field. Probably Avalos since he has a little more experience.Madmartigan wrote: ↑December 22nd, 2020, 4:40 pmAndy Avalosaggies22 wrote: ↑December 22nd, 2020, 4:39 pmThat's a pretty solid guess.QuackAttackAggie wrote: ↑December 22nd, 2020, 4:19 pmI'm going to throw out Kellen Moore as my guess

Re: Harsin to Auburn
I think this is a pretty bad hire for Auburn, and I'm guessing the majority of Donkey fans are going to be quite pleased with Harsin's departure.
He managed to do less with more, and that was put firmly on display during the MW championship game.
Malzahn is a far better coach, but hey.... I'm not the AD at Auburn!

Harsin will be the next in a lengthy list of G5 coaches that make the P5 jump and fail.

Re: Harsin to Auburn
I agree. I'd be very surprised if Harsin is some game changer who does better than what Malzahn did for them. Is Harsin going to be able to win in a division with Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M? Even the Mississippi schools you could argue have better coaches. That is without even bringing up the other side of the SEC.Sl7vk wrote: ↑December 22nd, 2020, 4:49 pmI think this is a pretty bad hire for Auburn, and I'm guessing the majority of Donkey fans are going to be quite pleased with Harsin's departure.

They paid 21 million to Malzahn to go away to get Harsin? Not a good choice imo.

Re: Harsin to Auburn
I disagree. Although he probably had one foot out the door (ala Matt Wells) in the championship game; he's a smart, aggressive coach and one hell of a game manager. His team's always had a way of stepping on our throat every time the momentum was swinging in our favor. He'll be harder to replace than the donkeys realize.Sl7vk wrote: ↑December 22nd, 2020, 4:49 pmI think this is a pretty bad hire for Auburn, and I'm guessing the majority of Donkey fans are going to be quite pleased with Harsin's departure.

Re: Harsin to Auburn
The measuring stick at auburn is beating Alabama. Heck even Gus at auburn beat nick saban a few times. Harsin went from being expected to beating the sjsu coach and sam Jose to beating saban and Alabama.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑December 22nd, 2020, 5:10 pmI disagree. With that said whether he wins or not he still is in for big time money.
Auburn was stupid to pay $21mm to fire Gus to a coach that will probably at best perform similarly.
Btw he wasn’t auburns first choice. They went after several guys who were not interested. Sarkisian was one. The Louisiana coach as well. Both said thanks but no thanks because of the unrealistic expectations and also the financial situation auburn is in making the decision to fire Gus.
@ViAggie referenced a verse from psalms today. Think it applies here as well with auburn.

Re: Harsin to Auburn
I wouldn't say he is a bad coach. He is good, but not great. He is probably Boise's worst coach since Pokey Allen which isn't a big insult since they have been a great program. Their program didn't meet their potential under him. He was a big dropoff from Petersen and Hawkins.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑December 22nd, 2020, 5:10 pmI disagree. I don't think he is a game changer at Auburn. And unfortunately beating USU isn't some great accomplishment. Other than 2014 and 2018, he hasn't faced good Aggie teams.

Agreed. Harsin did well by our standards here- but he took over a team that wasn’t us. He took over a team that was the best of the g5. Im not sure Boise today is better than Boise when he came in.Sl7vk wrote: ↑December 22nd, 2020, 4:49 pmI think this is a pretty bad hire for Auburn, and I'm guessing the majority of Donkey fans are going to be quite pleased with Harsin's departure.

Those sec schools like auburn don’t understand that they will compete for sec titles- but not every single year. Auburn was a fine team the past few years.

Harsin should talk to Dan Dawkins before signing a contract. Sometimes you don't realize when you have a good thing right in your hand.

This would be cool to see. Moore might make a great HC for Boise State, and I would not be surprised if this is the first choice for Boise State.QuackAttackAggie wrote: ↑December 22nd, 2020, 4:19 pmI'm going to throw out Kellen Moore as my guess

This move sounds alot like Mick Dennehy coming from Montana. A great record, BUT at a school where anyone would have had a good record with the tradition already established.Sl7vk wrote: ↑December 22nd, 2020, 4:49 pmI think this is a pretty bad hire for Auburn, and I'm guessing the majority of Donkey fans are going to be quite pleased with Harsin's departure.

Meltdown at boise. I don't think they hired a AD, some players and coaches will go to auburn, some new recruits may have second thoughts, they just lost badly to sjsu. Can't wait to see how the next year plays out.

Re: Harsin to Auburn
Now is the perfect time for Utah State to establish at the top of the Mountain division. Boise will drop a few rungs I believe. CSU is down. WYO is proving to be mediocre under Bohl. New Mexico is down. Air Force is above average but will likely not be the top dog year in year out. If Boise falters, top of the Mountain is wide open. Take us there BA.

My favorite comment was by one of the posters here that said Hardin would never leave Boise because his wife wouldn’t leave her Ward.
I guess they have 30+ million reasons to leave their Ward lol.
