What did he get a bonus for? Just being the interim coach? After the Colorado State debacle, he didn't deserve it. Not getting your team to show up and play is bad leadership.

Classy move.

Snide remarks and bitter feelings don't change that.

To me not playing against CSU is separate from the potential scandal. A leader gets his team ready and plays that game. It would have done more good for the players, Maile and the university. If it comes out Cockett is anti-mormon and anti-Poly, I'll be the first to say she should go. Even if she is, the team would have been better fared to have gone out and sent Maile off with a win.

Great job Maile and that was very considerate. I know there are a lot of bitter feelings about how things ended up, I am as frustrated as any. That being said this was a classy move by Maile and I appreciate it.

It's possible that Maile could have handled some situations differently than you think he should have but still be able to acknowledge that this was a very cool, classy thing to do. He didn't have to do it. You don't have to praise. him for it either, but turning this thread into bashing on Maile is silly.

And this isn't about not playing vs CSU - this is about him giving 20k of his own money to the other coaches.

There's no such thing as altruism, but that does not mean that no act isn't generous or praise worthy.

You think that Frank just "donated" 20,000 to make himself look good to some journalists and people on message boards? GTFO.

We're not talking about a few hundred dollars. 20 grand. I guess if you want to assume the absolute worst of people in all situations, that's a personal choice. But man, what a miserable way to live.

I’m only saying I’m skeptical.

And even if it were an assistant that went to the media, they did it to make maile look good. Going public is absolutely a publicity stunt.

I’m skeptical of the timing. I’m skeptical of Maile based on how things are unfolding.

$20,000 is a relatively small investment in keeping his pr up.

She isn't, she hired me and several other people I used to work with that shared the same religion. One of the people on the Board of Regents has known her for years and said, "This is out of character" for her.

Nice gesture by Frank though.

Nice move by Maile. There are very good people on both sides.. Hopefully, this misunderstanding (IMO) can be resolved and both sides can move on doing what they do best..

It is a very nice thing of him to do. I come at the angle that he didn't deserve a bonus for this year. His team went 1-2 with two bad losses, a game that got cancelled and a game where the team flat out quit and refused to play. That isn't bonus worthy.

I imagine not, but we'll let the investigation play out. I'm not a Maile fan at all, don't believe he deserved a bonus and am glad he isn't the Head Coach.

He should use it to pay his lawyer. Donate it to the missed revenue for the CSU game. Or maybe donate it to Noels lawyer fees. I’m thinking about starting a non-Mormons are discriminated against fund at Utah state (real thing) then I’d donate it to the Merlin O Fund. Or if he doesn’t agree to any of those he can spend the money on a moving van when he never sees Aggie football ever again.

It isn't about kindness. A guy who didn't have his team play in their final game shouldn't be getting bonuses. He should be giving back a chunk of his paycheck.

So Maile's kindness should be discredited because someone else talked about it?
Maybe Christians should reconsider the atonement. People have been writng about that for centuries.

Throwing stones at kindness is stupid. I don't care the reasons. We could use a lot more kindness.
It isn't about kindness. A guy who didn't have his team play in their final game shouldn't be getting bonuses. He should be giving back a chunk of his paycheck.
I believe "bonus" is not the correct term in this case. From my understanding, the $20K was essentially his compensation for taking on interim head coaching duties, on top of his defensive coordinator duties and paycheck. I believe it was something he was contractually owed for stepping up and taking on the interim title.

I could be off base on this, but that's my understanding.

And Patagonia donates 1% totally for altruistic reasons and not manipulative PR.
You think that Frank just "donated" 20,000 to make himself look good to some journalists and people on message boards? GTFO.
PR goes beyond message boards and journalists.
And what if he received the bonus and gave it BEFORE any need for PR?

Or what if he did it, didn't say anything to anyone, and one of the assistants told Hans?
I’m only saying I’m skeptical.

And even if it were an assistant that went to the media, they did it to make maile look good. Going public is absolutely a publicity stunt.

Ok, but did he get his full contract for last year when his team didn't play in their final game? He shouldn't if it is true that he supported his players not playing.

Regardless, he was paid a bonus, and gave it to the assistants. Nice job.
I don't know why he did it but it makes the most sense that he did it because he cares for, and appreciates, those men and knows they are looking for work and could use it.
