A strong sjsu is a really good thing for the conference. Granted we filled the spot of the really bad football team.Sl7vk wrote: ↑December 13th, 2020, 8:42 pmBrennan has worked a freaking miracle in San Jose.bazinga22 wrote: ↑December 13th, 2020, 8:40 pmhttps://247sports.com/Article/Coaching- ... 156845143/

Pretty cool to watch what he did with that team. He definitely deserves his shot at a place with a bigger paycheck. Hopefully SJSU can find another good one. We need strong teams in the MWC.

That’s fair. It’s seems there are only a couple teams in the league who stay consistently solid.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑December 13th, 2020, 9:05 pmThey will never be consistently good.slcagg wrote: ↑December 13th, 2020, 8:59 pmA strong sjsu is a really good thing for the conference. True. Even some programs like Fresno who should be consistently good repeatedly have down years.slcagg wrote: ↑December 13th, 2020, 9:13 pmThat’s fair. Re: Brent Brennan SJSU coach leading candidate for Arizona Job
Yeah that’s the one that should be consistently better. SDSU and Boise are the ones who seem to stay solid. Wyoming is getting closer to that as well with Bohl.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑December 13th, 2020, 9:37 pmTrue. Yeah Bohl has done a good job overall despite this season being not great. He has never had a year where he didn't lose at least 5 games, but Wyoming isn't an easy place to win. Consistently winning 8 games and making a bowl is impressive there.

Re: Brent Brennan SJSU coach leading candidate for Arizona Job
The coach who made them good the first time, when we are also good in 2012, who they lost the same time as us losing GA, Mike Macintyre, is available. We'll have to see if they learn from us NOT to bring him back for a second stint, as bringing in a coach's older self and having the same success is NOT how it works. Or if the owner of Citizens Equality First Credit Union would WANT Macintyre 2.0 and want it badly enough to force it.
Then again, maybe Macintyre hasn't taken the same nosedive as GA and would work out a little better. He would maybe avoid taking the nosedive all at like once we did and instead just drop to the 4-8, 5-7 seasons with an occasional 6 or 7 win season to not get fired.
Just like we wanted GA to lead us to another USU 2012, we would also want Macintyre 2.0 to lead SJSU to another SJSU 2012, complete with a 22 point loss to USU, a win over a BYU, and the only other loss being a 3 point loss to a team that wins a P5 Conference Championship and ranked 7th. Yeah, as great as GA 1.0 and Macintyre 1.0 were for us, and GA 2.0 wasn't as good for us, it's a safe bet Macintyre 2.0 wouldn't be as great for us either!

Re: Brent Brennan SJSU coach leading candidate for Arizona Job
Probably true. Very few G5 teams are consistently good. That is why I like Anderson who did have 6 straight winning seasons at Arky State. I'll take that here.OKAggie wrote: ↑December 14th, 2020, 8:49 amAlso true of 10 teams in this conference.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑December 13th, 2020, 9:05 pmThey will never be consistently good.slcagg wrote: ↑December 13th, 2020, 8:59 pmA strong sjsu is a really good thing for the conference. Re: Brent Brennan SJSU coach leading candidate for Arizona Job
If Brennan bolts for Arizona, will Frank Maile be the top choice to replace him at SJSU? If he isn't in consideration for a head coaching spot at any of the conference peer institutions, why would he be the top choice at USU? Would any school in the conference consider Maile with the resume he has now?

It's pretty safe to say Utah State is the only head coaching position he would even get a call back on, let alone an interview.Yossarian wrote: ↑December 16th, 2020, 4:00 pmIf Brennan bolts for Arizona, will Frank Maile be the top choice to replace him at SJSU? Re: Brent Brennan SJSU coach leading candidate for Arizona Job
Yeah, why would they take Maile? He wasn't a good coordinator. Did he really do a good job this year as interim coach? They had one win against a bad team, two bad losses, a game got cancelled for covid and a game where his team refused to play. That doesn't scream great to me. SJSU could find a much more qualified candidate.3rdGenAggie wrote: ↑December 16th, 2020, 4:18 pmIt's pretty safe to say Utah State is the only head coaching position he would even get a call back on, let alone an interview.Yossarian wrote: ↑December 16th, 2020, 4:00 pmIf Brennan bolts for Arizona, will Frank Maile be the top choice to replace him at SJSU? Re: Brent Brennan SJSU coach leading candidate for Arizona Job
That's kind of the point that I was making. If his resume isn't good enough to attract an offer or even consideration from our peer institutions, why should USU "settle" on him as our head coach? He seems like a great guy and is getting some good coaching experience, but I don't think he is ready for a head FBS coaching gig. Our peer schools are not racist or discriminatory for not wanting him as their head coach, why should USU carry that label? We need the best person we can get for the job, regardless of ethnicity. Frank is not the guy - and that is the decision that was made. This is the Catch-22 for coaches aspiring to move up to a head coaching position - until you have been an head coach, you can't show experience as a head coach. It is convincing a program to take a chance on you that is the tough part. The only thing you can do is show success as a coordinator -- Frank couldn't do that based on our defenses the last two years.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑December 17th, 2020, 12:21 pmYeah, why would they take Maile? Good news for SJSU that Brennan didn't get the gig, but bad news for him if he is staying there. San Jose State will be an extremely difficult place to win at consistently. He needs to do what McIntyre did and use his momentum to get a better job.
