Fair point but that applies more to Wells than Andersen.mcaggie1 wrote:Remember that Anderson and Wells were the first coaches who had the advantage of having great state of the art facilities. That makes a big difference in recruiting. I wonder how someone like Weatherby would have done with that advantage. Another advantage is the upgrade in conference affiliation. He may have gone up a lot more poles.
Makes what Andersen did even more impressive.

Re: List your top 5 candidates
I never did get the Weatherbie love, he basically inherited a bunch of good DL, OL and LB's from Shelton and to his (and Jim Zorn's) credit added Anthony Calvillo to the mix, got two good seasons, then left with the cupboard bare by year three.mcaggie1 wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2020, 9:50 amRemember that Anderson and Wells were the first coaches who had the advantage of having great state of the art facilities. 1- His winning % since 2013 at La Tech is higher than USU'ssplintorb wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2020, 10:20 amWhat makes people like Skip Holtz?Aggieiester wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2020, 10:15 amIn no particular order:

2- La Tech often plays two P5 money games per year and yet he still has won more games than USU has since 2013
3- He has won 6 bowl games in a row, I'd prefer that to the recent embarrassing bowl flops USU has had against Kent St NMSU and Akron.
4- His teams score points and that seems to be what the fan base wants.

Re: List your top 5 candidates
Yeah we definitely could do worse than Skip. There’s some merit to your points. It would be a fairly lateral move for him though wouldn’t it? He makes 700k this year and increasing to 850k over the next couple seasons. Anyone know what we are willing to offer a seasoned and proven head coach?Aggieiester wrote:1- His winning % since 2013 at La Tech is higher than USU'ssplintorb wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2020, 10:20 amWhat makes people like Skip Holtz?Aggieiester wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2020, 10:15 amIn no particular order:

Re: List your top 5 candidates
I think Gary was making 950K so even that would be an improvement for Holtz, also I believe he would get a pretty significant boost in his assistant salary pool, that can be very important in recruiting a coach to a lateral move.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2020, 10:45 amYeah we definitely could do worse than Skip. Re: List your top 5 candidates
What's not to like? He wouldn't be my top choice, but if be happy if he were hired. He's 148-110 overall and 8-3 in bowl games. He's not an exciting up and comer, but he's proven himself to be a good coach.splintorb wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2020, 10:20 amWhat makes people like Skip Holtz?Aggieiester wrote: ↑December 3rd, 2020, 10:15 amIn no particular order:

Re: List your top 5 candidates
You're concerns are valid. Especially considering GA's second stint. However, I believe Sitake was Ed's roommate in college. Imagine if you're best friend called you up and offered you a better paying job in a better city. And that job would lend itself to you being more attractive for bigger jobs (this one). I view it more as ambitious than losing fire. And I agree with newhouse9, I believe he applied for our HC last time it was open and I hear he's thrown his name in the mix this time around too.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑December 2nd, 2020, 10:09 pmMy concern with Ed Lamb is NOT the fact that he is at BYU, but that he lost the fire and drive from being a head coach considering he resigned from being a head coach. We just fired one coach who was great taking over a team in the late 2000's before quitting in the mid 2010's. It's likely that Ed Lamb would be a shell of his 2008 self similar to the drop from 2009 GA to 2019 GA. I would be more in favor of him if he had remained as the coach at SUU all this time, or even jumped to a Sun Belt or MAC head job. It's especially telling that he would step down to be an assistant at a school where he can NOT be their head coach.
I would on the other hand want Jeff Grimes overlooking him being at BYU. If anything, Him being at BYU and how big of a loss it would be for them is probably MORE reason to want to take him, not LESS reason. Though it's likely if we don't take him, either another school with a HC opening or a bigger school with an OC opening will take care of that.
To BearLakeMonster, well, this is awkward. Didn't know there was a name so similar. But MonstER:
