Breaking the press

Post by Winning Team » November 26th, 2020, 1:33 pm

It seems that Coach Smith’s teams have always had trouble breaking the press. I remember Stew had a few full court plays he would run in case we saw the press and it always seemed to work.

Any reason why we haven’t introduced some plays into our inbounds package? It seems like our only plan is to inbound the ball as fast as possible to whoever is open and try and force it down the court..

The notion that Stew’s teams were good against the press is comical. They had their most successes against when Tai Wesley was used as he could see over the Defense

Yes. Smith’s teams have handled the press better than Stew’s teams.

Well regardless the question still remains. The past two years we have seen complete meltdowns against Boise and now VCU because we can’t deal with the press. Any idea why?

Watching Stews teams deal with press was a painful sight. I'm no expert but it seems like the press would be harder to handle early in the year.

And create a screen just before mid court. It was always a joy to watch the other teams guard run into a brick wall.
