Honestly, we might throw a goose egg this year (I know not that bold of a statement). Watching New Mexico go toe to toe with Nevada. You can tell who the DC is. They are flying to the ball and playing great D.

Re: Coaching Candidates
Our offense has just been so putrid. Even today take out the long run and the kickoff return and we get beat 35-3.
Maybe if New Mexico gifts us 6 or 7 turnovers we can beat them.

Re: Coaching Candidates
There are a few teams that I think we could compete with (UMass, Akron, etc.), but there is honestly not one single team in the country that I would feel "comfortable" predicting a win against. There is a real chance USU is the worst team in the country this season.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑November 14th, 2020, 6:33 pmIf we can't beat Kansas, is there any team that anyone would feel comfortable predicting us to win?

And to make matters worse, there is speculation that Archie is thinking about buying the Aggies and moving the team to Luxembourg.

But it’s players though.... UNM talent must have got a huge jump from last year to this year.... UNM recruiting had to have been tops this last year and they are playing the true freshmen.

It's coaching. NM has not recruited that well the last several years. You need talent, but coaching that get's the most out of the talent is important as well.

It what gives me hope as well, quite frankly with Aggie football right now hope is all i have. Need a strong leader who will build up the locker room and get the most out of his players.Harcher wrote: ↑November 14th, 2020, 7:50 pmI agree. Just trying some sarcasm. Re: Coaching Candidates
It’s obvious after watching today’s game what the problem is. It’s not a personnel problem, it’s not a lack of discipline problem. What it is, it’s a culture problem. That’s why it’s important to get this right. I agree with all of you that Harrell looks like he could be the real deal, but honestly I think taking him right now is a major gamble. He’s never been a head coach before, and I think before we even try to make a hire like that, we need to have stability and somebody come in and suck the life back into the program. We need a proven head coach. Jeff Choate and Jay Hill are my favorites for the job. I think everybody here (and I’ll see if I can find them), needs to watch two clips of Jeff Choate. Any clip of a press conference will work just fine, and the final series of the 2018 Montana vs. Montana State game. After you do that, you’ll see just why this is the right hire. Harrell may be a good head coach for our program in 4-5 years time, but for now, we need a proven head coach that knows how to come in and turn train wrecks around.

Neither, but if you’re making choose I’ll go with Johnson. More places, bigger programs, OC at multiple places, more inspiring. Good luck convincing him to come across the country. Your turn!brownjeans wrote: ↑November 14th, 2020, 11:36 pmGraham Harrell

Re: Coaching Candidates
You can't take out big plays because it helps you fit your narrative. "Take out that 80 yard run and he only had 40 yards!". I don't disagree with the narrative at all, TBH, but the fact that we were able to generate those big plays tells you we should be doing better. Games swing on 3-4 plays and most of the time those are turnovers or explosive plays.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑November 14th, 2020, 6:51 pmOur offense has just been so putrid. fair enough. I guess a bigger concern is we had a few big plays early and then never had them again or much else.Madmartigan wrote: ↑November 15th, 2020, 8:12 amYou can't take out big plays because it helps you fit your narrative. Re: Coaching Candidates
I agree that relying on big plays for your whole offense is a bad sign. We don't put together sustained drives ever. This offense is putrid and it won't get better until we have a capable QB.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑November 15th, 2020, 9:40 amfair enough. I do think our OL does a good job in run blocking, but it's hard to do that consistently when you can't throw.

Re: Coaching Candidates
Do we think that any of the coaches will be retained with the new head coach? Whoever the new coach is they have got their work cut out for them. THey have an obviously divided locker room and a team that is not overly talented. We are for sure going to have to show some patience.

Re: Coaching Candidates
I was wondering this too, but if they can get the right guy to come in like they did with Smith I think some collateral damage is a small price to pay. I loved that Spencer was on the bball coaching staff, but the head coach deserves to have who he wants on staff.Aggie84025 wrote:Do we think that any of the coaches will be retained with the new head coach? So if your a new coach who if anybody from this staff would you want to retain, assuming the current coaches want to stay? Collins- solid recruiter, but don't retain him as DC
Woods- solid, but the OL has not looked great.
Strength coach- no way, this one we need to make a home run hire who ever the guy is.

Choate, is that you? Shelley is from Texas. It's no guarantee.
Aggies All the Way!
Re: Coaching Candidates
It’s the best move for our program right now. Like I mentioned last night, we can’t afford to go out and make a splashy hire with a guy like Harrell or Johnson. We need stability in the program before we even consider making a hire on a first time head coach like that. In reality, if Choate can come in and use the same blueprint that he did at MSU, he would most certainly provide the culture change and team unity were looking for, and then in 3 or 4 years if he’s just not winning enough football games but the cultures there, then that’s when you try to make a hire on a guy like Harrell. We need to get this team unified and on track for long term success, and that’s why I’m pushing so hard on Choate cause I watched him do this exact same thing at MSU. Now his players believe in one another, and good team chemistry leads to wins.

Re: Coaching Candidates
If you want stability, hope we hire an average coach. They'll be just good enough to not be fired, and not good enough to get hired for a better job. As for me, I want a great coach.MTAG wrote: ↑November 15th, 2020, 10:09 pmIt’s the best move for our program right now. Re: Coaching Candidates
Haha this guy has 14 posts and every single one of them is about the Montana State coach. I'm starting to sense a bit of an agenda
Re: Coaching Candidates
I don’t disagree with you either. What I’m saying is with a divided locker room and the apparent culture issues we have, taking a chance on somebody who’s never been a head coach before is an incredibly risky move. We need to take somebody who’s been a head coach before and has been through something similar before. Don’t get me wrong, I want a great head coach too, and if Will Muschamp or Jim Harbaugh applied tomorrow, this conversation would be over. I’m of the opinion that we need to focus this search on current head coaches, whether that’s a P5 reject or an upcoming FCS coach, then that’s where we need to go. And circling back to your point about a GREAT head coach, to be perfectly blunt with you, idk that we can get that right now. I think we need to keep things in reality that with our situation, what great coaching candidate would want this job right now? That’s just my take. I’ll trust Hartwell with whatever decision he decides to make, but if I’m sitting in the AD’s chair, I’m looking at current head coaches rather then P5 assistants.brownjeans wrote: ↑November 15th, 2020, 10:33 pmIf you want stability, hope we hire an average coach.
