@22, Now that they've practiced and got some time together, does your other previous statement hold true, that Zapala is too good to redshirt? Is he looking to play at the 4, or will he be Queta's key backup and plan to get all his minutes as center?
At this point in time, the only thing I can tell you about Szymon is he is NOT a 4. He has 5 skills and he can pop out and hit a 3 if the opportunity comes up.
I said Zapala wasn't a 4 back in May but guess I lack cred to be believed.
It’s alright a lot of things are repeated on here. Which I need it at least a few times before something sticks.
Difficult to know who is speculating and who has good intel at times. With the exception of a few more frequent posters (aggies22, treesap32) or memorable individuals (troutputz), I rarely remember who said what or the accuracy of their historical posts.

You all can trust my intel and from my view here in Reno, the dude is totally a 4...Or maybe a 5...Could be a 1..

Well, seeing as how multiple sources (videos, sites) when he was first recruited indicated him as a "power forward" or as someone who plays the 4 and 5, I took that info as more believable.

Could someone please explain what skills one would be lacking to be only a 5 but not a 4? Is it essentially quickness? Why can a 4 play the 5 but a 5 not play the 4?

How many truly dominant true 5s are there in today’s game let alone the college game. Most don’t have a back to the basket game that can truly punish putting a smaller guy on them.

I'm hoping to do a preseason preview for hoops that is similar to what I do for football. You you guys have any interest in reading something like that?

Absolutely zero interest in reading that. None. Why would you think that? I can’t believe you’d even ask.

So I was looking for different preseason power rankings for the MW and I stumbled upon this hilariously uninformed projected depth chart from a guy who has us ranked 5th preseason. I'm formatting this the same way he did.

Guards - Brock Miller-JR, Alphonso Anderson-SR, Justin Bean-JR
Forwards - Neemias Queta-JR, Kuba Karwowski-SR
Bench - Szymon Zapala-FR, Rollie Worster-FR, Sean Bairstow-SO, Marco Anthony-JR, Trevin Dorius-SO

Can't say I don't secretly want to see Queta and Kuba on the court simultaneously, but Anderson playing SG is a bit much :joking:

Here's the link:

Three juniors and two seniors. A lot of great experience so far, they won't get overwhelmed against experienced opponents, and their composure should help to set the tone for the game. This is basically the starting line up that all of us expected to start the year, plus or minus a few prognostications. We'll see how the competition goes, and if anyone nabs a spot from the team veterans (+Marco... veteran-ish).

Here's the real question... I know "positionless", but the typical 3 and 4 play a different role in where they stretch on the floor. When I've watched us play, it really seems like we've played 3 guards, a forward, and a center. (If someone disagrees, please speak up.) Given this, is Anderson going with the more guard position, and Bean going to more of the forward? Or are they really going to screw with everyone and constantly switch?

Expect Justin and Fonzo to be interchangeable.

Bean's three-point shooting is something I've heard he's worked on a lot since last year. We know Fonzo can shoot. Hopefully Marco can shoot it alright. Queta was starting to stretch the floor last year with a pretty consistent mid-range jumper. It has also been said that Miller is a shooter. We should have a very diverse offense as it seems we can score from all positions. And I suspect between the Bean and Queta nary a single rebound shall go unclaimed by the Aggies.

On the flip side, last year we knew if the team was cold, Samwise the brave was just going to pick up 30 points. We don't have that this year, so I am worried about not having a go-to.

Should be a great starting line-up, assuming you sub out Miller at the first dead ball.

Does anyone know if Miller is better at practices than in games, because I’ve heard he doesn’t miss at practice right now. I just don’t know if he has always been good at practice and then meh in games.

They're probably not using those balls that have been embedded with a data-tracking device during practice, then. As I recall, Miller shot much better in games that did not have one of those data-tracking balls.

Classic Blunders:
1) Getting involved in a land war in Asia
2) Going in against a Sicilian when death is on the line

I think Brock Miller surprises some people this year. Last year was definitely disappointing, but I have a feeling we're in for a bounce back season from him.

Something to note during the media day, Craig Smith said we have 4 that can play point guard. I would add that Craig Smith would not say who exactly is the starting point guard.

I’ve heard Marco and possibly Fonzo running a lot at point. I’ve heard Ashworth is a shooter but not the best handles and Rollie looks promising but needs work still. This is a “I heard it from, who heard it from” scenario so take it for what’s it’s worth.

Something to note during the media day, Craig Smith said we have 4 that can play point guard. I would add that Craig Smith would not say who exactly is the starting point guard.
Let’s see Marco, ashworth, bairstow and maybe Rollie?
I’ve heard Marco and possibly Fonzo running a lot at point. I’ve heard Ashworth is a shooter but not the best handles and Rollie looks promising but needs work still. This is a “I heard it from, who heard it from” scenario so take it for what’s it’s worth.
Have you heard about any of the new guys impressing enough to get serious minutes? That’s what I keep hoping to hear. We really need a recruiting hit or two in the backcourt to be as good as many are hoping.

Fonzo running some point? That’s interesting. I would guess it would be more from the point forward spot. Can you imagine him trying to guard Colorado state or unlvs guards.
