Will be interesting to see if this was a straight up firing or if this was a mutual agreement.

Thank you! I love the cojones from our AD. I’m sad for Gary but the situation was dire.

Those trying to paint this situation as being alright were delusional.

Bring on Jay Hill!

I was 100% in favor of Gary. He understands how we can flourish. But he hasn't been able to pull it off. The locker room is divided due to fights about racial justice and he hasn't been able to lead.

Sad day as well as a much needed day. Was 100% on board to bring him back. I hope he recognized he was done and stepped down. I will always appreciate what Gary did for the program. He could write a hell of a book explaining just what went wrong from the time he left us the first time.

Call Jay Hill now! So glad to see Gary gone. Something broke in him after he left here and he has never been the same.

Hearing it was more Gary leaving than being fired but it’ll be a short drive up I-15 for our next coach

I'm confident it was some kind of deal.

Stan Laub paying out his contract is the ONLY way he's being straight up fired.

Too bad Morgan Scalley was so dumb a while ago. Now I expect Jay Hill, assuming he's successful, will be a 4 year rental until Whitt retires.

Maybe that was the deal from the start. Laub got the coaching search shut down by promising to pay the contract out if Gary doesn't work.

I've got good news for you. Whitt just signed an extension to 2027. So it would be a 7 year rental.

Does that mean we have to wait 3 more years to let a new coach rebuild?

Wow! Probably mutual. No way we could afford to do this unless he was on board too. Gary is a quitter. He has proven this over and over which can be good at times. Oregon State fans are happy he quit and USU fans will be as well. It was also obvious he didn't have the fire to be a Head Coach at Oregon State. That is why I argued so voraciously against him being brought back. Glad we can move forward now.

All those clamoring for Jay Hill just sit back and watch John Hartwell go to work. There should be very little turnover in coaching, and we’ll have one of the few openings. He can take his time and find the right guy. I trust him more than I hiring Jay Hill.

This is exactly right. I love Jay Hill and think he would do a great job but quite frankly there's not going to be a lot of job openings this year and so maybe you might get a chance at an up-and-coming coordinator or other coach that you may not have gotten to take a look at based on the number of openings. One thing is for certain Hartwell needs to be the man making this decision I realized boosters will have some sort of say but he hired a great coach and Coach Smith we should let him have the full range to do his job.

Lastly I just want to thank coach Anderson for what he did for our program he did so much the first time around growing that program and getting it turned around I will always be grateful for him. This time around obviously has been bad but I do respect Gary, yes people say he is a quitter and while that may be true sometimes you know yourself well enough and you know when to walk away.
