Let’s look at Nathan to see how much our offense has regressed

Post by BeNo » November 1st, 2020, 11:33 am

or should I say imploded.

In the prior three years, our favorite player has averaged the following yards per reception:
2017: 13.0
2018: 10.6
2019: 10.4

This year he is averaging 4 yards on a total of three receptions. We have major issues.

It almost feels like the last few years we had someone picking up a lot of slack and now they're not here. I bet someone like that would be 1st round NFL like talent. 😁

Our QB is incapable of getting the ball to Nathan.

Exactly. Love made up for some of the deficiencies in the line with his talent and could fit the ball into a tighter window or at least believed he could and it required less separation. That isn't happening anymore and I don't know that it will. I think a real off season, with Shelley being here the entire time would have really helped this team. Learning on the fly isn't working.

I will say this.... he was the guy to throw the ball to last year to convert a 3rd down....

That and his average reception the last three years was a first down. Nathan is definitely capable of delivering and then some. But last night at the game it become woefully apparent we are incapable of throwing the ball more than three yards.

Yes, but most of the players dropped everything that came their way.

One on a 3rd and long by Shelley that IIRC was thrown way over his head on an out.

Peasley also threw to him once, his single reception for the night.

I wondered if Nathan was out with Covid precautions until the end of the game when he was finally utilized.

We were wondering if he felt okay because it seemed we didn't even see him on the field for several downs throughout the entire game.

Outside of DT, our whole receiver room needs to be demoted. Come on Anderson, why didn't you recruit better receivers in the offseason? It was a major problem last year (with the most talented QB we've ever had at USU) why'd you think it would be any better this year without Love?

Instead of d**king around with the QBs, maybe you should have focused on receivers and TE's who can actually produce!

You’re annoying -
BTW - DT even missed 3 catches with those wobbly passes

The issue isn’t the receivers. Our starting QB can’t throw or our OC won’t let him throw anything beyond 3 yards.

He may very well be the guy this year, but we don't really have interest in converting third downs.

It feels like we have a starting QB who isn't ready to run the offense
or
An OC who isn't ready to let the QB run the offense so has narrowed the scope of things

And really, I think it's a lot to ask of a guy to come in and have full command of a new D1 offense after only being here a short while. If one of the other QBs knows the offense better and the OC trusts that QB enough to call the full offense we need to go with that other QB. Doing less than that is not fair to the rest of the team or the offensive coaching staff.

Guys you need to understand what the biggest issue is on this team is, first of all on Offense the O line is not doing well they are not strong enough to make the Offense run. W.R. on this team are average. T.E. is a disaster. R.B. is ok Q.B. is also ok.

On the Defense again they are not strong enough up front to get the job done that must improve to get it done. That means D-line as well as linebackers.

My biggest concern is weight training, that of course falls on Gary to get that improved. Before we are competitive with BSU or SDS that must get much better.

That is football 101

I agree, bj. but if GA let his QB1-in-waiting walk in favor of his hand-picked pet project, what makes us think he's going to let any of our other prospects with WAAY less gametime experience have a real shot? I'm afraid Gary may have (I can't express myself without swearing) the bed. will he continue to lie in it?
