Keys to an Aggie Victory

Post by Aggie84025 » October 30th, 2020, 4:29 pm

What are you keys to an aggie victory. This for sure be an uphill battle, but I am excited to to see what the boys grind and fight and hopefully get a victory.

Offense
-O Line has to get a good push and have good pass blocking.
-Receivers are going to see mostly man coverage so they will need to get some separation and make contested catches.
-Shelley has to play better, he is not the only reason we lost, but he has to play an efficient game and throw the ball down the field.
-Utilize the TE's.
-Get Thompkins on the perimeter and with space to break some big plays.
-Utilize Warren as the power runner in the middle, but have one of the faster backs get some efficient runs on the outside.
-Creative play calling by Reeder.
-Don't play scared.

Defense
-Line has to maintain leverage and allow the backer to roam free.
-Utilize lots of blitz packages.
-take better angles and tackle better.
-play with a fire and energy that has seemed to be lacking.
-no blown coverage's.

2nd game your team will improve quite a bit.

We have to contain #20 and the QB. I love our (SDSU) DLine- OLine has consistently been a disappointment for the past 4 years yet showed promise against perhaps the 2nd worst team in the MWC (UNLV).

Our D-Scheme (albeit without Rocky) has stayed the same. THANKFULLY!

Our O-Scheme (see thankful as it was tiresome and predictable) has changed 100% yet still heavy on the run (which, with 5 backs that would start at most MWC schools should).

We need to greatly improve our passing- we certainly and finally have the receivers to perform this task.

Every team in the MWC this week will be concerned about Special (or in some cases "Not so") Teams. Ours should be better (see muffed punt reception last week by us yet blocked a UNLV punt by us as well)

Curious as to how many of the 14 that stayed out from your team will be playing?

Best of luck and here is hoping for a safe and fun night!

The single biggest thing is tackling better. The tackling has been complete crap since last season.

It was really frustrating to watch defenders in the right position try to gator arm tackle last game. I hope tackling is all that the D has worked on since last game.

Tackling was bad last year as well. It got worse as the season went on and the fact it hasn’t improved is a big worry.

Over pursuit and not tackling.

I was interesting to hear Jay Hill yesterday on 1280 yesterday talk about tackling. Basically, if they miss more than 5-6 tackles a game they likely won’t win. They chart and focus on it throughout the season. I think we had 6 missed tackles by the second series last week. Hopefully, this is something we can improve upon.

Get stops.
No penalties on offense.
