Boise vs USU
Boise vs USU
Hey guys! I’m nervous and excited for the game next week! I wanted to check in and learn a little more about your team? What are their strengths and weaknesses? Who are your best and most impactful players? What does Boise need to do to win? Any information that you think is good to know, let me know about it! Thanks!

Re: Boise vs USU
We've had quite a bit of turnover, so it'll be interesting to see how USU looks. Others will have better insight than me, but in my opinion USU's biggest strength is likely to be running back. They go 3-4 deep easily. Biggest weakness is definitely defensive line, they're pretty green and don't have the depth we'd like to see.
Mostly, I'm just excited for football to start again!

Re: Boise vs USU
Even when changing coaches I felt like I had a feel for what the team would look like the next year. Honestly, you would have to go back to at least 2009 for me to know less about what to expect going into a season.
What should we expect from Boise?

Re: Boise vs USU
Is there any word on the starting QB? I’m assuming it’s Shelley. I also think warren will start at RB and not DHC. What is your receiving group look like? Will your offense or defense be better this year?

Re: Boise vs USU
Offense will be much better, defense will have growing pains. If USU can force a shootout, they might have a shot at winning on the blue. If USU’s D can’t stop Boise’s passing attack, it will be a long night.Boiseguy wrote:Is there any word on the starting QB? I’m assuming it’s Shelley. I also think warren will start at RB and not DHC. Re: Boise vs USU
One of the stronger areas will be the O line, we are breaking in a new offensive scheme with a new O coordinator so I do not know. We do have P-5 experience at both Q.B. and running back.
As far a defense goes on the line we have 2 experience ends one a starter from last season and the other a grad transfer from USC we are real young at the nose, linebackers are a question mark for me, secondary should be ok.
I think most of us have questions because of new coach's and we did lose the best players on both side of the ball.
Opening at BSU is the toughest game we should have all year thanks a lot to the schedule makers

Re: Boise vs USU
BSU is pretty similar to last year. Some key names lost are Weaver, Hightower, Cleveland and moa. They return Bachmeier (who didn’t play against usu last year iirc), Holani, shakir, whimper, Walker, kaniho and bates. The skill positions basically all return. The biggest question will definitely be the offensive line. We only have “one” returning starter. I am actually under the impression that our lines will be better than last season, especially the o line. Stetz, Harrington, khg and ojukwu are all pretty talented. The D line will be strong at tackle with matlock, igehon and craevans. Matlock and igehon will start. Washington is our next great stud end. He had 5.5 sacks as a backup to weaver last season. This should be the best defense that we’ve had since the Kellen days. The biggest question mark will be special teams. Our punting/kick game has the potential to be horrendous. It sounds like Bachmeier is the guy with sears as the backup. Cord will likely sit out the season. We also lost mahones (kicked off the team) so Holani and AVB will be the top two guys.
I am anticipating a tough game because usu has talent. I don’t know if I could make a prediction though.

Honestly, I am expecting to see a Boise win by at least two TDs. If the Ags show better than that I will be very encouraged for the remaining 7 games.
Honestly happy to get this game outta the way early.

That’s a good point. We do usually play tough in opener every year and to make your case stronger last year we opened against a pretty good Wake and we had a chance at the end in that one.taniataylor wrote: ↑October 17th, 2020, 2:57 pmWe usually do pretty well in our 1st games (well besides LSU last year) Wisconsin, we fought, Michigan, we fought snd let’s face it Boise aint no Michigan...Im feeling pretty confident right now based on what I may or may not know.....WE ARE GOOOOOD... I most excited to see the QB, assume Shelley, but who knows. I'm also excited to see the young RBs, especially Gentry. Honestly I'm mostly just excited to watch some football I care about, no offense to the Fighting Camels of Campbell University intended.
Go Aggies!

I know it was Mich St. Im really excited to see what happens with the QB. One throws, one runs....plus this is my favorite person’s final season - hoping it’s a healthy and productive one.

Of course we will try to run the ball much more than last season. That hurry up offense will be long gone which will make the D. Coordinators happy. We also have a 6'6" receiver which help out the passing game.

Re: Boise vs USU
Below are my expectations for the Boise game and the season.
-Identity on both sides of the ball. It was obvious Gary did not like the hurry up offense last year and maybe he was pressured into it based on how we did in 2018. I am excited to see a true identity with a power run game. I am excited that we are switching back to the 3-4 defense. I can kind of understand the offense decision last year, but the defense was mind boggling. I think we will see improvement in the right direction.
-I am just excited we have football and this year is kind of a mulligan anyways.
-I do think we are setting ourselves up with improvement this year for a really good next year. Our schedule overall is more favorable next year.
Go Aggies, play hard and lets bring home the win.

I hadn’t realized that they switched to a 3-4. Do you think they will blitz the LB’s or drop 8?Aggie84025 wrote: ↑October 17th, 2020, 8:12 pmBelow are my expectations for the Boise game and the season.

Re: Boise vs USU
I'm guessing we will see a lot of blitzin that's what we've done in the past when we've had successful defenses that forced a lot of turnovers and were successful. If we only Rush 3 and don't get pressure I imagine will get eaten alive.Boiseguy wrote: ↑October 18th, 2020, 3:29 amI hadn’t realized that they switched to a 3-4. Re: Boise vs USU
I don’t know about you but 2020 has helped remind me of my priorities, so no yelling at the tv this year in frustration for me. I’m just gonna enjoy having football again. I expect Boise to be very good like usual. I also hope we give you guys a good run for your money.
Gary Anderson has completely shut everybody out of practice so we literally know hardly anything. That is except Tania who let’s just say is pretty close to the team.
Again welcome to the board. And good luck the rest of the season.
Oh and please beat BYU.

I predicted a 6-2 season with Boise and AFA being our losses, yes we'll beat SDSU on Halloween, scaaaaary!!
With that said, I'd be shocked if we win at Boise on Saturday.

I want a win, but at a minimum want a competitive game for the aggies. Last year against boise, af and byu we were blown out of the water. I want this team to fight and compete.

Re: Boise vs USU
Losing by 35 and losing a first round NFL Qb does not make me optimistic for this game. I am afraid it will be at least a 20 point loops there. One good thing is your mayor is letting no fans in and another way I could be wrong is if Shelley is very good. As was stated earlier, no info coming from Anderson, so it is totally up in the air.
Also, please beat BYU and then get the NY6 game.

Hey Boise fans. Many of us Aggie fans are relenting the loss of some of our key players this season due to COVID opt outs and transfers. This has left us a bit thin on D-line and the secondary and lost a couple starting O-linemen. Are there any positions of concern for the Broncos due to anticipated starters opting out or transferring?

Re: Boise vs USU
USU has a bit of an advantage in that COVID has kept the new O and D even more under wraps than usual and this is a different team in almost every respect wheras Boise won't have changed much.. However, I think the Donks fronts on both sides of the ball will be the difference. I think there will be rust on both sides and the score will be a bit closer than the actual game. Boise 27-10.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑October 19th, 2020, 12:44 pmHey Boise fans. Many of us Aggie fans are relenting the loss of some of our key players this season due to COVID opt outs and transfers. Re: Boise vs USU
According to the game notes, the Donks return 10 starters from last year and we return 11. Looks like they will be breaking in even more new starters than we will. Of course, that doesn't say anything about the level of the talent moving into those starting spots or how many minutes they got last year. At least being the first game and the learning curve that comes with moving into a significant playing role, this should help even things out a bit early on. Just maybe we will have a more competitive game on our hands than many of us think.
The other thing I like is the Boise Wr's aren't particularly large. They are probably fast, but in the past we've struggled against teams with large and physical receivers who can block our DB's and allow the backs to get outside on the run game or with sweeps. They also don't seem to have that guy that can go up and grab a fade 6 inches above our DB's in the endzone.
