Which Seniors Could Potentially Return?

Post by YoungBloodAggie » October 15th, 2020, 4:16 pm

**BORED AT WORK**

I have compiled the following list, with all seniors on it (I hope I didn't miss anyone, this is based on the Media Guide released today), and I have sorted them based on what I think is their likelihood to return for the 2021 season, given that they have an extra year of eligibility. Obviously this is a very soft science, but I'd like to see as many contributors coming back as possible.

LIKELY WON'T RETURN
Sean Carter - Will most likely not be invited back, roster spot needed
Jaylin Bannerman - Will most likely not be invited back, roster spot needed
Mosese Manu - Will most likely not be invited back, roster spot needed
Eric Munoz - Will most likely not be invited back, roster spot needed
Jake Pitcher - Will most likely not be invited back, roster spot needed
Derek Wright - Will most likely not be invited back, roster spot needed
Marcus Moore - Currently wrapping up a master's degree, I think he'll move on
Nick Heninger - Currently wrapping up a master's degree, I think he'll move on
Taylor Compton - Currently wrapping up a master's degree, I think he'll move on
Shaq Bond - Could potentially be an UDFA candidate if he has a good year

MIGHT RETURN, IF COACHES AND PLAYER WANT IT
Chris Bartolic - Good punter, not sure if we want to keep ST guys around
Soni Fata - Rotation DL player, which has been a depth concern
DHC - Although he could be an UDFA candidate as well

WOULD MAKE SENSE TO RETURN
Savon Scarver - Isn't an NFL guy, but that return speciality is huge for us
Demytrick Ali'ifua - Haven't heard about any NFL potential, but a multi-year starter would be nice to have back
Troy Lefeged - Haven't heard about any NFL potential, but a multi-year starter would be nice to have back
Kevin Meitzenheimer - Not an NFL guy, but has been a great leader and defender for us
Justus Te'i - I know his father passed away two years ago; perhaps he needs to return home to be with family?
Jaylen Warren - Probably not an NFL guy, love his skillset for the Aggies
Cash Gilliam - Borderline starter, maybe the coaching staff needs the spot for a young recruit?
Carson Terrell - Haven't heard about any NFL potential, but a multi-year starter would be nice to have back

GOTTA BRING HIM BACK
Jordan Nathan - Duh

Pitcher and Wright are walk-ons that contribute. I would bring them back.

Bond, Moore and Heninger need to return because we NEED them.

I've heard Manu has been great in camp, he would likely be invited back.

The only one I'll say for certain won't be back is Sean Carter. He's been nothing but a headache.

I think Pitcher and Wright being walk-ons makes them less likely to return. Masters programs aren't cheap, and they'd have to fund it themselves unless they get scholarships (which kind of defeats the purpose of bringing them back).

I think Heninger will likely be done as he gets his MBA. Maybe Moore could come back, but I think Shaq has a shot at an NFL roster, which you just don't give up.

Lots of talent in the TE stable, and maybe we like Manu enough in that blocking role to bring him back. IDK if we'd bring back Terrell and Manu, though.

Yes, this would be for an additional season in 2021. And I don't think I've given Jordan my blessing to declare for the NFL, so he will just have to come back for another year.

A good time to hang them is if they have completed the degree be it a BS or MBA,, and have not had a serous injury yet so no reason to risk that. The only smart reason to stay is if another season might make you a NFL prospect.

It looks like the ncaa is going to adjust the scholarship limits for the 21-22 season. If 20 senoirs return for next year
we could have 20 extra scholarships allowed making our scholarship limit 105. The question now comes down to
if we can afford to pay for extra scholorships this would apply to to all sports

Every team will want to get back those that contribute the following season while cutting those who they think they could upgrade over. But it won't work that way for us and it won't work that way for anyone else.

If true, this will be a mess.

Carson Terrell said he is likely back. Said really likes the new offense for tight ends.

Me too. Tania and Aggies 22 have been the best contributors in a long time.

I remember back in late 90s when we had a provost who posted regularly - it was awesome although he/she frequently got us all excited about conference expansion years before it actually happened.

Oh... and I hope all that can return are able to next year.

I can still remember in 2011, when there were rumors we were getting the MW invite, I asked about false rumors from the 90s in chat, and a few people told me that there were rumors as far back as the 90s we would be included into the old WAC.
