Jaylen Dixon
Jaylen Dixon is a Utah WR I had heard this summer was transferring to USU. It never materialized and I’m not sure we had a scholarship.
Some scholarships have now opened up and now he’s transferring. I haven’t heard if he is in fact coming to USU now, but it seems likely.

Uh this is a huge get if he comes here. 350 yards as a soph and 600 yards as a freshman receiving.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑October 12th, 2020, 12:37 pmJaylen Dixon is a Utah WR I had heard this summer was transferring to USU. It never materialized and I’m not sure we had a scholarship.

Thanks Roy.
Also sad to hear about spots opening up.

Re: Jaylen Dixon
WR is a position I'd love to see a solid transfer at. Best would be DL, I'll take it at any position of relative need.

Re: Jaylen Dixon
Well Dixon and Shelley were teammates in high school (Lone Star HS - Frisco TX) so it wouldn't be a surprise if he came to USU. I assume he would have to sit out this year but with the COVID exemptions he should still have two years after this shouldn't he? Having Dixon and Deven Thompkins in the lineup together next season would be pretty lethal.

Re: Jaylen Dixon
I still don't love us just being the U's cast offs every year. I think it can hurt us in recruiting if we are constantly bringing in grad transfers from Salt Lake. That said, each of the transfers we've gotten have performed well. So its kinda like an addiction, it helps for a little while but after a while you can't function without it.

Re: Jaylen Dixon
Right now, all these players know Gary. Many were probably recruited by him to the U. I'm willing to bet the number of transfers from the U will decrease once the players there that already know him have moved on.thegreendalegelf wrote: ↑October 12th, 2020, 1:52 pmI still don't love us just being the U's cast offs every year. I get it "Green", absolutely do. At some point a possible inside comment could be,,,ride the pine in SLC or play in Logan. Doesn't do much for our football athletic profile as I see it.

Meh we are who we are. P5 transfers are usually helpful to the program. The Utah transfers have been great contributors. Happy to have them. This kid started as a true freshman in salt lake and had 600 yards.

This.
We need to consistently be at the top of the MW and eventually bring home a title.
After that, we can get a bit more "picky."

Re: Jaylen Dixon
If ALL the Utah transfers hadn't been so good for us, I would agree with you. As has been astutely noted, P5>>G5 in a lot of cases in terms of talent they get AND Gary recruited lots of these players so it's an easy way to get quality kids to the program.thegreendalegelf wrote: ↑October 12th, 2020, 1:52 pmI still don't love us just being the U's cast offs every year. Re: Jaylen Dixon
I'm curious. we are getting a lot of offensive players from Utah. and the statement is being thrown around that Gary recruited these kids. Did he recruit on the offensive side, or did they just like gary and wanted to follow him up here. or is it that Gary is recruiting these kids. i'm not sure how a defensive coach recruits the offensive kids.

Re: Jaylen Dixon
I’m not sure gary recruited them but he would have a relationship with them. Plus success of prior transfers and those relationships also help.

Re: Jaylen Dixon
Repp, Mariner, and Heninger were all big contributors for us last year after playing sparsely at the U. Immediate PT and impact is almost always attractive for transfers.

Re: Jaylen Dixon
Can't the Utes spare one or two guys in what seems to be an endless supply of DLs down there?
Upgrading the guys in the trenches will change our fortune and pecking order in the MWC quicker than finding a 3rd or 4th RB or WR to add to the roster.

Re: Jaylen Dixon
Exactly. That might have more to do with it as Gary at this point. I do want to clarify that Mariner was a part time starter at the U. With that said he came here and his numbers went up.Madmartigan wrote: ↑October 12th, 2020, 2:44 pmRepp, Mariner, and Heninger were all big contributors for us last year after playing sparsely at the U. I’d expect this kid to be a big time producer if he does actually end up here:

Re: Jaylen Dixon
Repp and Mariner had two of the best catches I have seen an Aggie make last year. Mariner's toe-drag catch and Repp's one-handed catch, both for touchdowns, were amazing. If this is what ex-Utes are going to bring, I say "bring them in".slcagg wrote: ↑October 12th, 2020, 2:46 pmExactly. That might have more to do with it as Gary at this point. Re: Jaylen Dixon
A few interesting things about Sione Lund.
- Not sure if we are interested in him or not but seeing as he is a Utah LB and both Gary and Ena would have coached him, I'd be surprised if there wasn't at least some contact made.
- He was suspended for spring ball at Utah
- He was a 4-star recruit out of Bingham that initially signed and redshirted at Stanford before transferring to Utah.
- He's played LB in college but was the #1 rated high school fullback and #9 running back recruit in the country. Wouldn't surprise me to see Gary use him in the Jumbo package. I think Gary likes to have a full back on the roster. Think Lund may be transferring somewhere to switch to offense?

Did Gary use a FB in his time here? I don't recall ever having a fullback on the squad, though we did have some larger backs.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑October 12th, 2020, 2:57 pmA few interesting things about Sione Lund.

- It sounds like the suspension was a pretty big deal and the main impetus for him no longer being a part of the Utah football team.
- I've also heard there are some injury problems here and that him playing offense again may be a long shot due to injuries.
Re: Jaylen Dixon
The short answer is no. Very, very, very few teams use a true fullback anymore. Most of the time it is an H back type player ( tight end used more for blocking than receiving). Keegan Anderson, Kellen Bartlett played these rolls in the past.Madmartigan wrote: ↑October 12th, 2020, 3:16 pmDid Gary use a FB in his time here? Re: Jaylen Dixon
Take it with a grain of salt and I hope it's not true, but hearing from an obsessed Ute fan co-worker that the rumor on why Dixon is transferring is because he couldn't get cleared medically by the PAC12.

Heard the same from my version of your co-worker. Never heard of a conference needing to medically clear guys so maybe Covid related and the Pac-12 is being too cautious?

My guy said he heard secondary medical problem resulting from a positive covid test. Hoping that's not the case and the kid gets to play, wherever he ends up.Intermeddler wrote: ↑October 12th, 2020, 6:43 pmHeard the same from my version of your co-worker. I saw this from Ute twitter as well. But not from an actual verified source. Could be right.
Like Roy said initially (and Roy is usually spot on) this kid was interested in transferring earlier this Summer.
