How many wins this 8 game season.
How many wins do the Aggies get this season? My guess is 2 or 3. They should beat New Mexico at home, I am counting that one for sure. They should win one or both of the Fresno State and CSU games. The rest do not bode well. Hopefully, I am wrong by several games. The joker in the deck which could change thing is the new QB from the U.

Re: How many wins this 8 game season.
I honestly don’t know what to expect. I am hoping for 4 wins, but think that may be a stretch. I am glad we avoided our non-con schedule, which I think would have been brutal.Jjoey52 wrote: ↑October 1st, 2020, 8:06 pmHow many wins do the Aggies get this season? My guess is 2 or 3. I think we can beat UNM, Nevada, and Wyoming. Hoping to steal at least one other.
Zero confidence in Gary and co. Hope to be wrong, and honestly just glad we get to have a season.

I am more confident in Gary this year as he is returning to the style of football he is used to and the defense We have had success with.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑October 1st, 2020, 8:11 pmI honestly don’t know what to expect. However that is a difficult schedule. I think 4-4 would be great as we build for the next couple of years. Like you I am excited for the season.
One thing to remember we have the third best winning percentage in the conference since we joined. I think we can do well.

Yeah I would be happy with a 4-4 record. 2021 is where the expectations get ramped up.

One way to look at it. Another way, is there is nothing wrong as a fan with being wrong when your team exceeds your expectations. I wouldn't have predicted us beating San Diego State in the conference title game, but I was as happy as everyone else when it happened.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑October 1st, 2020, 8:47 pmFIVE AND THREE BABY. BSU- Probable Loss
SDSU- Toss up. I think we can beat those guys.
@Nev- Toss up.
Fresno- Probable win.
@WYO- Probable loss.
NM- Win
AF- Toss up. looks like they have lost a lot defensive players. We match up better strategy wise this year.
CSU- Toss up
If we can get 4 wins with this schedule I will tickled pink. A good season this year will set us up for a 2018 type year next year.

Re: How many wins this 8 game season.
The X factor is being able to stop the run of defense. If we can do that I predict we go 6-2, maybe even 7-1.
If not, we’ll be lucky to go 4-4.
Either our D-line is going to have to step up big time or we are going to have to be very aggressive blitzing and use those blitzes to confuse the opposing line.

Re: How many wins this 8 game season.
Wow, I'm sort of shocked at the low expectations around here. Is it lack of confidence in GA? Feeling that we lost too many important players? Not experienced enough right now to win? All of the above?
I have said every season that 7 wins is the floor for this program and I'm not varying from that no matter how many games we play.
Now, let me put down my Mountain Dew (real sugar of course - can I get an amen @treesap32 ?) and remove my deep blue shaded glasses for a moment. Okay, I am willing to make a one-time Covid exception this season and say 5 wins is the floor. We should be better than 5 of these teams without much stretch of the imagination if we stay healthy.

Re: How many wins this 8 game season.
I wish I were nearly as optimistic as some of you, and I certainly hope I’m wrong. I’m just out on Gary, out on our defense, and I don’t think we could have possibly drawn a worse schedule. 2, maybe 3 wins.

Re: How many wins this 8 game season.
I’m with you. I would have said 4-5 wins with our original 12-game schedule. I think we only lost 1 win from that schedule so I’ll say 3-4 wins leaning towards 3.
We lost a lot of talent on offense. Receiver and QB are question marks. DL really concerns me and we were horribly slow on defense last year and most of what I’ve heard about GA has me concerned.

I agree. The program has some issues. Toughest games in order are Boise, San Diego, and then at Wyoming. I’d say only one of those one team will he clearly favored.sambonethegreat wrote: ↑October 1st, 2020, 9:52 pmWe won’t lose to CSU. I’m guessing 5-3.

I think the low expectations are rooted in the relative difficulty of our schedule. This is the toughest conference schedule we will have ever played.Aglicious wrote: ↑October 1st, 2020, 11:59 pmWow, I'm sort of shocked at the low expectations around here. Re: How many wins this 8 game season.
First thought was we win maybe 3-4 games but after analyzing every game I feel more confident in our chances to win 5 or 6. Four of our opponents are breaking in new coaches. AF will be short handed, NM is bad, and UNR is unpredictable.
BSU (L) - We aren't there yet. Maybe next year at home we take them down.
SDSU (W) - No Rocky Long pacing the sidelines and the Aztecs take a few games to find themselves. First home game for us and lack of prep by them also a factor this early in the season.
UNR (W) - Nevada is so unpredictable. Beat FSU and SDSU on the road late last season but then lose to UNLV and struggle against Weber and UTEP. This one could go either way but I just think we have better athletes and coaching.
Fresno (W) - New coach for Fresno and we are starting to get into a groove. Too much momentum to lose this one at home.
Wyo (L) - This will be a physical battle. I think Pokes challenge Boise for conference this year. No shame in this loss.
NM (W) - Complete rebuild going on at NM. Hopefully we finally get some backups into a game.
AF (W) - We still have difficulty stopping their running game but better than last year. Their shorthanded defense can't stop us either and we have more explosive plays.
CSU (W) - We always struggle at FOCO but our emergent running game controls the clock and we win in a snowy game.
Go Ags!

This is the same exact conference schedule we played last year. Granted the games have swapped from road to home vice versa. It will be interesting how it plays out. AF has like 40 players sitting out a lot who played defense, so I doubt they will be the as good as last year.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑October 2nd, 2020, 8:21 amI think the low expectations are rooted in the relative difficulty of our schedule. Re: How many wins this 8 game season.
@Boazy - Probable loss
SDSU - Tossup
@Nevada - Tossup
Fresno - Tossup
@Wyoming - Tossup
New Mexico - Probable win
Air Force - Tossup
@CSU - Tossup
The way I approach these is first to examine whether there are any definitive probable wins and losses. I only see 2: 1-1. That leaves 6 games as tossups, 3 at home and 3 on the road.
Then I look at the road tossup schedule, which I assume to be around 1-2.
Then I look at the home tossup schedule, which I assume to be around 2-1.
Finally, I look to see if there are any games that especially look difficult or less difficult for us among the tossup games.
For these games, assuming as I do a considerable improvement in both overall defense and offensive line play, I don't see any reason to make any serious changes.
@Boazy - Probable loss (L: 0-1)
SDSU - Tossup (W: 1-1)
@Nevada - Tossup (W: 2-1)
Fresno - Tossup (W: 3-1)
@Wyoming - Tossup (L: 3-2)
New Mexico - Probable win (W: 4-2)
Air Force - Tossup (L: 4-3)
@CSU - Tossup (L: 4-4)
We thus go 3-1 at home, but steal one on the road, @ Nevada, for a 4-4 record, though I'd be unsurprised at 3-5 or 5-3, especially since I always think we'll have a good chance to split the Wyo/CSU games.
Can anybody explain why we always have those Wyo and CSU games at home or on the road in the same years? Don't get that.

Re: How many wins this 8 game season.
I think 4-4 is the most likely but there are reasons for optimism:
1. A healthy (now) experienced O line with great tackles
2. Great RB talent and depth
3. Running QB
4. Bad weather homegames and CSU/WY which should benefit rushing heavy offenses.
5. A defensive scheme in theory that plays to players strengh and has been successful here in the past.
Worries:
1. Defense-Different coordinator-same coaching.
2. D-line depth and experience.
3. Unproven secondary.
4. Unproven Coordinator and QB
5. Gary Anderson's recent record.
While Boise will probably kill the Aggies this game comes in the best possible position. The donks haven's seen on film either the new D or offense while Boise isn't going to change anything,. San Diego state has to come to Logan. AFU has lost 10-20 players. CSU is a mess. The Aggies should have a four win floor but...it could also go south quick.

Re: How many wins this 8 game season.
I won’t speak for anyone else, but for me it’s lack of confidence in GA and remembering how last season shook out. Last season was the least fun I’ve had as an Aggie football fan in quite some time.Aglicious wrote: ↑October 1st, 2020, 11:59 pmWow, I'm sort of shocked at the low expectations around here. Is it lack of confidence in GA? Feeling that we lost too many important players? Not experienced enough right now to win? All of the above?
I have said every season that 7 wins is the floor for this program and I'm not varying from that no matter how many games we play.
Now, let me put down my Mountain Dew (real sugar of course - can I get an amen @treesap32?) and remove my deep blue shaded glasses for a moment. Okay, I am willing to make a one-time Covid exception this season and say 5 wins is the floor. We should be better than 5 of these teams without much stretch of the imagination if we stay healthy.

I mean, I am famously pessimistic. Don’t let me rain on your parade. Just don’t see it this year. Hope the guys prove me wrong!OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑October 1st, 2020, 11:28 pmAnd you call yourself an Aggie fan?ineptimusprime wrote: ↑October 1st, 2020, 8:11 pmI honestly don’t know what to expect. They should beat New Mexico at home, I am counting that one for sure. They should win one or both of the Fresno State and CSU games. The rest do not bode well. Hopefully, I am wrong by several games. The joker in the deck which could change thing is the new QB from the U.
I think we can beat UNM, Nevada, and Wyoming. Hoping to steal at least one other.
Zero confidence in Gary and co. Hope to be wrong, and honestly just glad we get to have a season.
I also happen to be a Kansas fan, and the pessimism from following Kansas bleeds into the Ags sometimes too.
I also think we were (I can't express myself without swearing) nuts to rehire Gary, and have been on record about it. Don’t root against him, but have zero confidence in him. It is what it is.

How many wins is a successful year for you? Or is it the type of football that was played.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑October 2nd, 2020, 10:01 pmI won’t speak for anyone else, but for me it’s lack of confidence in GA and remembering how last season shook out.
