Fall Practice Updates
Here's a few solid articles recently written about fall camp and position battles. Please at least click on the links.
https://www.hjnews.com/sports/usu/usu-s ... 4cff1.html
https://www.deseret.com/sports/2020/9/2 ... -fall-camp
A few highlights:
- Gary feels very good about the RB position and likes what he sees (I assume we're going to be running the ball A LOT).
- Gary feels good about the scheme and position switches on defense.
- Gary's worried about the DL and it's a big question mark.

Re: Fall Practice Updates
Gary is is a mini-Whittingham. He wants a reliable running game. His strategy requires a good foundation upfront on both sides of the ball.

Re: Fall Practice Updates
Was it Gary who publically called out the DL in advance of the 2012 season? IIRC they ended up being a very good group. Could be a bit of a head game here.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑September 29th, 2020, 8:20 amHere's a few solid articles recently written about fall camp and position battles. The Herald Journal article says all scrimmages and practices are closed. Hopefully we still get some inside info.

Re: Fall Practice Updates
On the front page of USU fans there is a highlight of a goal line siutation. The QB is actually under center which we have not seen much of that in the recent past.

It's pretty tight lipped right now. It's hard to get a good look at things when I can't get in.BustaMcNutt wrote: ↑September 29th, 2020, 11:39 amThe Herald Journal article says all scrimmages and practices are closed. Hopefully we still get some inside info.

Re: Fall Practice Updates
I wonder when they'll update the roster online. Or release a prospectus. 22, do you think we'll have a smaller roster this season between opt outs and some guys moving on with life?

Re: Fall Practice Updates
I hadn't noticed the update. Although Compton is still on so maybe it's a work in progress or a change of heart. Looks like there's 105 guys on there now, so maybe it is the final roster.

Re: Fall Practice Updates
Under the circumstances no. Many of these guys were looking at little to no playing time and many of them had work opportunities that were too good to pass up.Aggie19 wrote: ↑September 30th, 2020, 7:28 amDoes this seem like an unusually high number of exits?aggies22 wrote: ↑September 30th, 2020, 7:12 amI just had these names confirmed to me but it looks like you beat me to it. Re: Fall Practice Updates
Now that there is a season, why are players choosing to move on? Are they afraid of playing because of Covid, did they not stay in shape, or were they told that they wouldn't be kept for the extra year so they had already made plans? I am fine with whatever reason they have, but it seems odd that they would move on since we are having a season during the time that they would normally be playing anyways.

Re: Fall Practice Updates
In this video there's a #1 playing safety. There's no #1 on the roster though. Is it just Bond or Pollard with a different #? Based off the players on the video it is the starters out there.

I've been saying for nearly 10 months now to expect an offensive system VERY similar to what we ran during the 2012 11-2 season.

Thanks for the explanation. It will certainly look different then what we have seen the past few years. As long as the offense is successful and we win games I don't care what offense we run.aggies22 wrote: ↑October 1st, 2020, 6:55 am12 = 1 running back, 2 tight endsAggie84025 wrote: ↑October 1st, 2020, 6:39 amWhat exactly are these packages, I have no clue what this means?

The pain of the AFA game last year where we went 3 and out in 16 seconds 10 times, and they ran all over our tired out defense...is something I never want to revisit again.
