I'll be anxiously awaiting the interview report on this one. I have met him - in his sophomore year, and had heard of the Stanford and uofu interest even back then.

Funny you should mention position-less. Dallin and I talked about postion-less basketball yesterday.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 11:10 amTall, versatile, aYep. Long, versatile, position-less.

I really don't want to be "that" guy but at this point it has become blatantly obvious to everyone with a set of eyeballs that our squad has become much more ummmm....pale? since the arrival of Smith and his staff.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 11:10 amTall, versatile, aYep. I'm all for supporting the notion of (insert famous buzz phrases here) "finding the right fit", "signing the best ball player available", "recruiting our own back yard", "he's a coach's son", "high IQ guy on the court", and "the guy is a hard-nosed player that will compete". At some point though, statistics would tell you that not all guys that possess these qualities look the same.

OMG you have found something to criticize this staff that has won back to back conference championships without knowing anything about recruiting, except your eye ball test.Aglicious wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 1:36 pmI really don't want to be "that" guy but at this point it has become blatantly obvious to everyone with a set of eyeballs that our squad has become much more ummmm....pale? since the arrival of Smith and his staff.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 11:10 amTall, versatile, aYep. Listen, I don't expect us to be at the top of any recruiting rankings, we never are, and I'm not unsatisfied in any way. It's just an observation and it will be interesting to see where we go as a program based on this style of recruiting versus our MWC peers.oleblu111 wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 2:29 pmOMG you have found something to criticize this staff that has won back to back conference championships without knowing anything about recruiting, except your eye ball test.Aglicious wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 1:36 pmI really don't want to be "that" guy but at this point it has become blatantly obvious to everyone with a set of eyeballs that our squad has become much more ummmm....pale? since the arrival of Smith and his staff.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 11:10 amTall, versatile, aYep. I don't think @Aglicious was complaining, merely making an observation that we could potentially use players from more diverse backgrounds. The proof is in the pudding, as they say, but that doesn't mean things can't improve.oleblu111 wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 2:29 pmOMG you have found something to criticize this staff that has won back to back conference championships without knowing anything about recruiting, except your eye ball test.Aglicious wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 1:36 pmI really don't want to be "that" guy but at this point it has become blatantly obvious to everyone with a set of eyeballs that our squad has become much more ummmm....pale? since the arrival of Smith and his staff.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 11:10 amTall, versatile, aYep. Fair enough, but I can't imagine anyone being concerned about the makeup of DePaul's basketball team. Coaches recruit players, those players decide where to go. I don't think there is anything more to it than that.Madmartigan wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 2:39 pmI don't think @Aglicious was complaining, merely making an observation that we could potentially use players from more diverse backgrounds. Re: Dallin Grant - New Commit
I think this bunch of players is very diverse, I mean they come from all over the world. I do not know what the starting lineup will be this year, but there will most likely be a few black's starting. I do not believe that race enters into this staff's decision on who to recruit. I think they get the best players possible that want to come to USU.Madmartigan wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 2:39 pmI don't think @Aglicious was complaining, merely making an observation that we could potentially use players from more diverse backgrounds. And thus far we have zero reason to complain with the results. There is an observable lack of race diversity on the court though. I'm good as long as we keep winning MW titles and making tourney appearances.oleblu111 wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 2:51 pmI think this bunch of players is very diverse, I mean they come from all over the world. Re: Dallin Grant - New Commit
Perhaps one difference between myself, and others is I do not care what color the kids on the team are, with my family being mixed race I really do see color as much as others do. 15 blacks or 15 white players does not matter to me at all.Madmartigan wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 3:26 pmAnd thus far we have zero reason to complain with the results. Re: Dallin Grant - New Commit
I think it matters in the sense that if you're a recruit (of any race) looking at USU, you'd like to see others on the team (or staff) who you can relate to. I assume It has to be harder to feel at home in an area that lacks racial diversity if you're a person of color. It's a worth-while discussion, glad someone brought it up.Aglicious wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 1:36 pmI really don't want to be "that" guy but at this point it has become blatantly obvious to everyone with a set of eyeballs that our squad has become much more ummmm....pale? since the arrival of Smith and his staff.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑September 24th, 2020, 11:10 amTall, versatile, aYep. Re: Dallin Grant - New Commit
What was the phrase Jackie Robinson's manager used? "I don't care if you're white, black, orange, or purple. If he can help us win, he's playing." I probably botched that, but If we start losing, then I'll be more concerned about who we recruit.
