We've heard this song and dance before. I imagine we all know who the two teams are.

To be fair, I don't blame them. We should have a season too.

I think one is clear. The other one(s) May find CA$ issues if they break rank with their state support.

BSU was for sure one of them. They will pressure thompson and they will get an even sweeter money deal and further seperate themselves. We have seen this before.

agreed, very dumb time to be paying massive buyout fees for any school, especially since, in theory, the NCAA could kill FB this year, not likely but it's a big gamble with too many risks.

Re: Rumor about MWC Teams Looking to Jump
Does adding Boise & SDSU (or AFA) make the AAC a power conference? No. Not even close. The numbers probably don’t make sense for either party to add Boise in the AAC.
If Boise wants to play this year, the MWC isn’t going to suddenly stop caving to them. But jumping conferences is like marrying a hooker to get in her pants. There is an easier way- I promise.
Boise says “we’re playing. If you are too let us know if you’d like to play us”. Then BYU and some other schools with openings will play Boise. The MWC then caves and lets them.

Boise?
Who do you think the two schools are? Def Boise. But I can’t imagine SDSU playing this year even if they switch conferences (due to being in California). The only other school would be Air Force in my opinion.

Boise State for sure. I do think Air Force is the other school. They are still planning on playing games and Calhoun has openly stated that he doesn't feel like they "fit" in the Mountain West Conference.slcagg wrote: ↑August 15th, 2020, 7:45 amBoise?

Yes there is an exit fee for leaving the MWC, and it is substantial.

I say screw boise. What primadonnas! Their school is trash. Their only saving grace is football. I hope more than anything every year to spank that team more so than any other team on our schedule. A couple of years without them in the MWC title game would be great.

$7.5 Million is the exit fee from what I have found searching the internet. So if anyone wants to leave, be prepared to write a big fat check.

Re: Rumor about MWC Teams Looking to Jump
I don’t know how I feel about this. If Boise and Air Force (assuming that’s the two a schools) made the jump they would each have a $5 million exit fee, and that could help out with the loss of a season. We would lose the best football program, but the program that has a built in advantage over other teams. Air Force is a good program, but they have recruiting and other limitations. I don’t think it’s San Diego State because it would hurt their basketball program, and I think they realized the impact on their first attempt.
Basketball wise neither was in the top half of the conference. I would think it would increase conference RPI, possibly leading to more tournament bids for the conference. It would require a basketball member, possibly Hawaii.
I think the time zones where the games are played would keep the media deal around the same media revenue.
Overall I like the conference the way it is, but if Boise is really upset about the eventual end of their carve out, I think now would be a good time for them to leave. I don’t think it benefits any team that leaves, so I doubt it happens.

Re: Rumor about MWC Teams Looking to Jump
Looking at reality here as I see it. What school in the MWC could justify a jump to another conference given the burden of traveling the Olympic and TItle IX non revenue teams. Just think about Boise traveling non revenue teams to the ACC locations, or for that matter, even AIR FORCE.
There is a possibility another conference could be formed in a couple of years as current T V contracts expire and the rich just get richer. If this new conference thing ever gets legs then BYU may have their shot as being able to muscle around other schools in a conference they have ascendancy in.

Re: Rumor about MWC Teams Looking to Jump
Another conference with who? AAC schools don’t have as much incentive to do this as BYU. They’re in the best g5 as it is. MWC schools are skeptical of BYU and may not want to give them that much power. BYU doesn’t have the leverage right now.NavyBlueAggie wrote: ↑August 15th, 2020, 11:30 amLooking at reality here as I see it. Re: Rumor about MWC Teams Looking to Jump
Boise no question. As soon as ncaa football goes semi pro and doesn't need the University of Trucking - Boise, they will shut the doors. Why pay for all those other buildings when you just need a couple to run the football team.JonnyCienPesos wrote:Boise yes.oleblu111 wrote:Do you believe that California, and Idaho would have allowed them to Play this season ?JonnyCienPesos wrote: ↑August 15th, 2020, 2:37 pmIf Boise and SDSU wanted to play football in the fall, the MW would be playing football in the fall.oleblu111 wrote:Yes I see that Idaho and California do not allow high school football to be played and yet BSU and San Diego are leaving to play this fall yes that makes sense.JonnyCienPesos wrote: ↑August 15th, 2020, 2:09 pmLOL. Boise would obviously get probably 4-5 million more in tv contracts. That would all be eaten up in travwl for olympic sports and basketball. The closest football member is tulsa at 1500 miles away.

Sometimes the conference who wants the school will pay the exit fee in full or pays half the cost. I don't know how much the AAC has, but they could possibly pay this.

Re: Rumor about MWC Teams Looking to Jump
Likely there is no penalty fee in place for a member school looking to play games in a season the conference shut down. Look for a continuation of problems, turbulence and sports program downsizing to continue now the cash cow of T V and ticket revenue from football is gone. Poor call by the MWC school presidents and it is the gift that just keeps on giving.

There are quite a few Bronco fans that claim their admin and president were leading the charge for cancellation of the season and they have not been shy about stating so. If this is the case, is BSU not one of the schools involved?

It has to be AFA. I doubt SDSU officials were against canceling either.
