Rewatching 2018-2019

Post by Real Life Aggie » August 10th, 2020, 1:15 am

I need some Aggie basketball in my life, and I've already watched all of 2019-2020 games, so I'm heading back and watching '18-19 games from the beginning.

Some interesting input from the Montana State game announcers:
- Mentioned that USU was 9th in the MWC, and said that if we're the number 9 team, this is going to be an amazing conference this year
- Likened Bean to Rodman, and said that Coach Smith indicated that Bean may end up being the best rebounder come end of the year

Prescient!

I have been tweaking my Plex account over the weekend and started to piece together a compilation of games to watch if the football season is cancelled. I should probably start one for basketball as well.

19-20 had a sweeter ending, but that 18-19 year was my favorite Aggie basketball season yet. Hopefully we get a season this year!

Some thoughts after watching the Hartford game:
- Crew Ainge had a couple of good plays and looks like he hustles a lot, but always seems to be trying to keep up. Or kinda like he just doesn't quite have control
- Tauriawn Knight looks like his game can't quite keep up with his ego, but seems really good for a freshman

I wasn't following the team that much this season, aside from going to the home games. What happened to the Knights? Knight III seems like a pretty good player, but he only played 10 games. Did he get injured and then transfer? And Tauriawn went to a JC?

JKIII went to SUU because he couldn't get to class. TK couldn't cut it.

I assumed that's what happened with TK, seeing as how he's at a JuCo now. Too bad about JKIII.

I watched the Mississippi Valley State and UVU games yesterday. Three impressions:
1. JKIII can do some work. Too bad it wasn't meant to last.
2. Quinn Taylor had some really big moments for the team offensively and getting us going. I didn't remember how much he did for us in that category, and how reliable he was. Multiple times in both these games, he willed us out of a rut, or really got us going.
3. Justin Bean is the last man in the rotation. Crazy, especially given that even thus far this year, he's shown that incredible nose for the ball. He had less than 30 seconds for UVU, and it was at the very end of the game.

Where are you getting the games from? Or is it just the files from this site?

This post is likely straight up poor sarcasm and cannot be taken seriously.

Watched the ASU game last night. There was good about the game, and also some frustration from me while watching the game. Luguentz Dort was a beast, though. Gotta give that to him.

I watched the UC Irvine game last night, and I think that filming gave me cancer.

Also, I got really confused when they mentioned that Elston Jones had taken the floor for UCI. I didn't follow the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons as I'd graduated and moved out of the valley, adjusting to life, etc. We got seasons tickets again starting in 2018-19 season (which ended up being way more awesome than I had anticipated, because I thought we were going to suck that year), but hadn't watched this game. So, I had to open up UCI's website and pull up their old roster to confirm it was the same guy.

I forgot to mention, I'd never seen an opposing coach pull out and switch all 5 players on the court at the exact same time until watching this UCI game. That was funny.

Northwestern State who came here for the bracketbuster years ago did that as well.

I watched the game @BYU-Provo. I was hesitant initially, esp. once I saw the broadcast came through byutv. However, I thought the announcers were great, had a lot of good feedback, and spoke well of our program and players.

Too bad we lost, and it wasn't close. The officials seemed good from what I could see, but we weren't clicking as much as we had been before. Also, BYU-Provo was playing some killer defense beyond the arc.

The only thing that kept me powering through seeing the loss was hoping that this will be our year, and their very grounded announcers. Every time I wanted to see Haws eat **** like he deserves, they came back with a nice thing about Sam, Queta, Brown, etc.

Watched the Weber game, and man it was rough. We played well and dominated almost the entire game, but those announcers, man. They couldn't quit talking up and down about Weber. I heard half a dozen times how they scored 113 against BYU the week before. Multiple times they attributed Quinn Taylor's plays to someone else (assist to Brito as Brown, and assist to Brown as Merrill), and each time they go to say an Aggie player's name, it's like they have to look down and check notes. Like, are these guys legit broadcasters, or did they just pull them out of the crowd?

I hate to give BYU-Provo credit for anything, but those were some great broadcasters, especially juxtaposed to these clowns, lol.

My bad. I was thinking of the 2019-20 season. Carry on.

Oh, gotcha. I was worried I had missed something or I had been spelling his name wrong or something.
