Re: Looks like our schedule is set
We bail out BYU because our fanbase slobbers over everything BYU. Many of our fans care more about hating BYU than loving USU. Games with them brings money and excitement.

Re: Looks like our schedule is set
I haven't seen anything saying the MWC is adding additional games with byu-p, so I'm not sure we're bailing them out so much since the games with them were already scheduled. I'm fine playing the scheduled games, beyond that, I don't give a rats (I can't express myself without swearing) what happens to that piece of garbage team or their fans. I hope we play them because it's a game for USU, that's it.

It has more to do with AF wanting to play both Army and Navy than anything to do with BYU... Just so happens that it helps out BYU as well.

Re: Looks like our schedule is set
If there is a season it would make sense to play byu, weber state, Idaho State or some team close by. Speaking for myself if that is the plan, I'd rather play and beat byu.

So, it'll be the same schedule minus the PAC-12 schools. That'll be fine. I hope we get more September games though. Currently we only have 1 with 3 weeks off.

BYU fans quickly realized that the following MWC teams currently have 3 OOC games: AF, BSU, WY, NMU, HI, SDSU, & Nevada
They're currently scheduled to play BSU and SDSU.
They're currently scheduled to play BSU and SDSU.

Are we really bailing out BYU? They already scheduled games with several of our conference mates so unless this opens the door for more scheduling of MW teams i just don't see how this is throwing them a bone.

Re: Looks like our schedule is set
Yeah and they are on our schedule anyway. Who should we replace them with? Seems natural to play a rival that will have good ratings that involves limited travel.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑August 5th, 2020, 10:15 amAre we really bailing out BYU? “Bailing our BYU” or “screwing BYU” was not part of the consideration. The MW did what was best for the MW.Aggie84025 wrote:Are we really bailing out BYU? I think there are more fans that love to police the BYU haters than loving USU. I am not saying that you are one of them, but there are plenty on this board.

Re: Looks like our schedule is set
If we are losing the Washington money game, I'd personally rather see the MWC do a conference only schedule. Maybe a full round robin schedule of 11 games, then a championship game. I really was hoping to see BYU sh.. themselves when they had very few chances to fit together a schedule, especially after seeing UConn canceling their season. It would be fun to see them play something like a seven game schedule with two games each against Liberty, UMass, and New Mexico State.

Re: Looks like our schedule is set
It seems like the 8 conference games and BYU games are set, but I am not sure if they will change those. In terms of SUU I don't think it is officially set as the NCAA is ruling on FCS playing or not is set to be decided on 8/21.

Re: Looks like our schedule is set
I certainly don't hate byu more than I love USU. I care very little about what byu does other than our game, but I absolutely believe we should play them every year in basketball and football as I do Utah. NVAggie is right that the game brings money and excitement. Why wouldn't you want to play that game?

I agree with this. The game brings in too much money to turn down.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑August 5th, 2020, 12:54 pmI certainly don't hate byu more than I love USU. I donated my season ticket deposit last week (I’ll be living out of state this season) and on the phone the sales rep said they were looking to keep as many OOC games as they could because “they need the money.” As soon as I heard that I knew we were going to do what we could to play the zoobs.
Plus I think we have a good shot at beating those SOBs this year. It’s a Win-Win.

Re: Looks like our schedule is set
Yep, we have beaten them 2 of the last 3 years. Even before Covid, there has been some Aggie fans that don't want to play byu. It is weird to me. Every team should want to play and beat their rivals. I guess if we can get LSU to come to Logan, ok let's pick that game, but compared to any other realistic alternative, I'm going to want to play my rivals every year.AggieUprising50 wrote: ↑August 5th, 2020, 1:01 pmI agree with this. Re: Looks like our schedule is set
I don't care if we play byu or not. It's a rivalry game and it means more because they are in state and a bunch of a-holes, but to be honest, if we didn't play them, I wouldn't care. I want to win conference championships every year and byu doesn't help us do that, any team on the schedule will do. We aren't playing for a national title anytime soon. Our title, is a conference title and I want to win them all. With all that said, there isn't a damn thing we should do to help them out.

Re: Looks like our schedule is set
Sounds like the MW is wanting to control every weekend after September 26th.. So while our opponents "could be" set the dates are not.
It sounds like the MW wants to have built in bye for the 1st few weeks on conferences games. Similar to PAC 12. Which means byu will not be playing Boise and SDSU in November.
The sticking point to this is Air force.
SDSU and Boise have have 3 OCC games so both will be dropping at least one. USU will seem to have 2 OCC games already but I could see us making a adjustment to that to get a P5 game. If we drop the byu game this year it also off sets the byu/ Boise same year that our AD dislikes.
I think byu will drop AT LEAST one MW game due to schedule demands of the MWC. They will be able to find games in September I think but Oct and November are going to be very tough.
It will be interesting to see how they handle this with AF. As AF will push to play army/ Navy later in the year.

We will never be the main rivalry for Wyoming or CSU, but secondary rivalries are still quite enjoyable.

Re: Looks like our schedule is set
I personally would love to win a couple more games against and become a primary rival with Boise State. That would be a much better rivalry than the one with the zoobs. It would be more competitive because it would also be a conference rival, and we could ditch Byu for a money game and not have to put up as much with the zoob fans.

Re: Looks like our schedule is set
Obviously we want to win our conference every year, but rivalries are a major part of college sports in general. We should play utah and byu every year in both major sports. It is a weird philosophy to not want to play them. When you hate a team, you want to beat that team as we have done 2 out of 3 years, not avoid them. I can't imagine any other fanbase wanting to avoid playing their rival. Traditionally Aggie fans have mocked byu and utah when they have avoided us or when their fans suggested not playing us even when they were far better programs. In the 90's, Aggie fans mocked byu for not playing us a few years and for how they wouldn't give us 1-1.Aggie19 wrote: ↑August 5th, 2020, 1:19 pmI don't care if we play byu or not.
