Re: Cancelled Games
I say ask even more money from BYU than the ESPN revenue and don't let them be eligible for a conference title. They get 10 games but nothing more and they pay a good price for every game.Machismo wrote: ↑July 30th, 2020, 2:41 pmYep Get ready..TrueBlueAggie123 wrote: ↑July 30th, 2020, 2:21 pm
SEC is going conference only. Thinks it’s only inevitable till the Mountain West does the same. I’m hoping they don’t throw YBU a bone but I think it’s gonna happen.
So if this happens then Hair should do the same as far as splitting the BYU's ESPN revenue.
NOTRE DAME IS AN ACC FOOTBALL SCHOOL IN 2020
The biggest news is that Notre Dame is essentially part of the conference this season, playing a 10-game conference slate and eligible to compete in the ACC title game this year. Notre Dame’s NBC television revenue will be included in a split of all TV revenue amongst the 15 conference universities.

We all know BYU will be bailed out by the MWC. I just hope the MWC holds out for their TV money split.

Couldn’t the MWC just play an 11 game conference schedule by each team just adding the three opponents they aren’t supposed to play this year?

Re: Cancelled Games
Let's just revel in the fact that BYU now has no way to put together a decent/respectable schedule. Because it's the way they roll, they'll likely spin it as they could have an undefeated season, but Utah State and Boise State are the only games where they could likely slip up.

Guys, everyone will move to conference only for flexibility. And then it’s just a matter of time before the whole season is cancelled or moved to the Spring.

My feeling exactly! I don't know about you guys, but I happen to truly believe that USU football is a better program than BYU football. I want a chance to pummel them as often as possible. Go Aggies!!!

Re: Cancelled Games
I do think we are a better team than byu and IF this were a NORMAL year, I could not care less if we play them or not. HOWEVER, in a season where their schedule is dangling by a thread, I'd rather crush their program rather than bail them out by helping fill in the gaps in their schedule.

Re: Cancelled Games
I think the 10 game schedule is the max. Look at how well things are going for baseball. When you have a sport in which you can't isolate the players in a bubble, you're going to need off weeks to fill in with postponed games.

Re: Cancelled Games
I don't think playing a limited schedule or even canceling all games this season is going to crush BYU football. They are more than able to weather this storm financially and their fans are not going anywhere. They may take a hit on some recruiting battles, but they won't suffer any long-term effects from an anomalous year like this one.aggies22 wrote: ↑July 31st, 2020, 10:50 amI do think we are a better team than byu and IF this were a NORMAL year, I could not care less if we play them or not. Re: Cancelled Games
I think they take a huge hit in recruiting. And this will be used against them for years. But I think long term you are right. However it depends on what the LDS Church has planned for BYU-P sports. If the long term plan is to wind down sports similar to BYU-I and BYU-H ( I think they do ) then this could speed up that process at BYU-PYossarian wrote: ↑July 31st, 2020, 11:43 amI don't think playing a limited schedule or even canceling all games this season is going to crush BYU football. Re: Cancelled Games
I don't expect them to drop their program BUT make no mistake, not fielding a team due to lack of scheduling interest or having to play a lackluster schedule of they are able to move forward will HURT.Yossarian wrote: ↑July 31st, 2020, 11:43 amI don't think playing a limited schedule or even canceling all games this season is going to crush BYU football. Re: Cancelled Games
I’m unclear of what will happen. If all of their best players return bigger, faster and with eligibility- can play along with their new young bucks they might have a good team- when that otherwise wouldn’t happen due to loss of eligibility. The church has the funds to ensure the team stays strongly positioned financially when other teams would struggle. That may suggest BYU would be fine when they eventually return.aggies22 wrote: ↑July 31st, 2020, 1:21 pmI don't expect them to drop their program BUT make no mistake, not fielding a team due to lack of scheduling interest or having to play a lackluster schedule of they are able to move forward will HURT.Yossarian wrote: ↑July 31st, 2020, 11:43 amI don't think playing a limited schedule or even canceling all games this season is going to crush BYU football. However if players stay- even if recruiting over marginal current players- maybe they aren’t able to cast as wide of a net in recruiting as spots are taken up by not enough people losing eligibility.
Do you think there could be unintended consequences benefitting BYU if Romney gets weapons his senior year he otherwise wouldn’t have had?
Re: Cancelled Games
NBA is working because of the bubble. Seeing how well it's going for the MLB on the other hand..... I think we get a week or two of college football until the wheels fall off and season is cancelled.

So if the college football season is cancelled or even moved to a spring schedule, what happens to the traditional and much celebrated bowl games.

If it's Spring then do we get two Seasons in one? That's ALOT of Games in one year. I think we should just bag it and move on to the 2021 Season. What about the Seniors? Will they want to come back after Graduating, probably not.

Re: Cancelled Games
$hitcanning the entire season and gunning for 2021 causes a slew of problems. What happens to the senior class of 2020? What do you do with your class of 2021 freshmen? If you keep your seniors and bring in your freshmen, how many scholarships do you get to carry? Does everybody get the same amount? Do you only carry what you WOULD have replaced had the 2020 season occurred?Machismo wrote: ↑August 3rd, 2020, 1:20 pmI'd bet there won't be any Bowl Games.
