So...If my math is correct..

Post by nvspuds » July 16th, 2020, 2:29 pm

and it rarely is......

Basketball could still start a conference only season on January 7th and have the 20 game schedule you guys prefer. 10 weeks, 2 games per, no byes. That puts you into the first week of March. That might not leave room for a conference tourney, though.

Schools could fit a conference only football schedule into April and May..

Just spitballing ideas. Not married to any of them.

Play a full season starting in January. Have May madness, which is what they should have anyways.

I'm in favor of a two game season. One game at 2 am on the first Tuesday in January and the next game at noon on the third Monday in March where the players dont have to dribble but can only shoot with their non-dominant hand.

That's it. No tourney.

We need to do something outside the box and this is outside the box.

The game is broken down into intervals of a set amount of time (say, 4 minutes). At the end of each interval, a media timeout occurs (mid-play interrupted by the ball traveling across the half court line). Players are selected to play based on dice rolls (or other randomized method, performed by a third party). Any player has an equal chance of going in. Teams choose the starting line up, and the last 4 minutes of the game. But all other 4 minute segments are randomized.

If an injury occurs or someone needs to be removed from the game, both teams proceed with 4 players. The other team, the one without the player removed, has a player pulled out at random via dice roll. Whoever can strategize and make due against a random and unexpected opposing team composition wins.

If there is a conference tournament played, it will be March 9-13. Changing sites or dates for the MW tournament would be a logistical nightmare, and changing sites or dates for the NCAA tournament would be even more difficult.

And a referee will wipe the ball down with Clorox after every pass and change of possession.

Now we are getting somewhere.

Along with the original proposal we can add the following per the previous suggestions:
1. Blindfolded players but how about they also have to wear a bee-keeper suit?
2. I love the dice roll idea - IF we look for sponsors, we look first to Dungeons and Dragons, they get first shot. Do we dare go so far as to add at Dungeon Master? :headscratch:
3. Love the safety-first idea of wiping the ball after every pass. What if we also replace the ball after every possession?
4. As a wild-card, each team gets to use one time out each half at any point of the game, not just dead balls. If the other team has a breakaway we can just call time out. While we are at it we can set up a "text to win" promotion where one lucky fan gets to call timeout.

Replace all the refs with Dungeon Masters. The typical DM is not familiar with the rules of basketball. Great! Allow them to interpret rules to the best of their ability.

Call a time out right before a dunk, just out of spite.
