I re-watched the LSU game last night

Post by Yossarian » July 3rd, 2020, 3:49 pm

Basketball, not football.

A few observations after many months and in a time of extreme sports boredom:

1. Alfonso Anderson was huge in that game. He hit some big threes and had three dunks coming from back cuts along the baseline. One play in particular was a thing of beauty. Merrill dribble drives on the right elbow and bounces perfect pass to Bean who was flashing at the foul line. Bean quickly throws a perfect bounce pass through traffic to Anderson who was cutting along the left baseline for the dunk. Textbook play and perfect execution.

2. That two-handed dunk by Brito in traffic.... where did that come from?

3. I think Merrill had his only dunk attempt in his college career that game. He tried to throw one down with two hands in traffic but was blocked/fouled on the attempt.

4. The team showed poise to come back from 19 points down in the second half.

5. LSU was on fire that first half.

6. How did the Aggies win? That was a very athletic LSU team. Athleticism all over the court.

7. We really missed Queta in that game.

We had so much success with the passing of Bean and Anderson in that game I wondered why we didn't do that more later in the season. Thise two were really in sync in that game. The return of Queta killed the two man game of Bean and Anderson, I thought.

Other than guard play, the Bean, Anderson, Queta trio intrigues me. Anderson lost some mojo when Queta returned.

I remember commenting after that game that the experience of being down big and coming back to beat a top tier team would impact the team later in the season when they'd be down to a "better" opponent and would need to come back.

I truly believe that being able to call back to this experience was a factor in winning the tournament championship.

Hey! I just realized we already have experience winning big games in front of almost no fans!

But yeah...that Brito dunk!

We'd have even more experience with that if the Utes ever scheduled us. :disappointed:

All three of them are capable passers and willing to share the ball.
