^^this. Corona is a great excuse for companies to undo bad decisions.
But I also think a big time revenue adjustment is coming to the NCAA.

Deaths are down 90% since the high in April.

MEDIA IGNORES 90% CORONAVIRUS DEATH COLLAPSE IN COUNTRY

https://outkick.com/media-ignores-90-co ... n-country/

On Sunday a major positive milestone was reached for the first time, coronavirus deaths declined by 90% in this country from the high set on April 21st. That’s an incredibly positive story about our national battle with the virus. Yet, shockingly, it has received almost no media attention.

That’s indefensible because this is not complicated data to track down. You can see it yourself on this chart here, on April 21st 2,693 people died of the coronavirus. Yesterday 267 died. Putting that number into perspective, an average of 7200 people died on Sunday of something other than the coronavirus and those deaths received almost no media attention at all.
You guys above make a perfect example for my argument. Going to your political agenda for health information. Why not find credible information from an expert to help your opinion/decision on how to stay safe in this health crisis?

Clay Travis who wrote that article is not an epidemiologist or a medical professional of any kind. He’s a Nashville-based radio host and the mush of a little-watched gambling show on Fox Sports 1, the type of pundit who thinks politics and sports should be segregated unless it provides him an opportunity to rail against the “wokeness” of verified media members on Twitter.

https://theoutline.com/post/8857/clay-t ... i=lmsw6ynn

Fox News had to check themselves in the past because they were spreading dangerous miss-information on the virus, looks like Clay Travis was right in the middle of that mess.
The 90% decline in the death rate is just a fact. You're the one making it political.
Yes, we should all be happy that the mortality rate has dropped by 90%. And, let's completely ignore the fact that over 125,000 people have lost their lives in the past 3-4 months due to an incompetent administration who has (I can't express myself without swearing) up their response to this national disaster at every turn. Yea, this administration has done nothing but politicize this event. It's sickening that they still have your support.
Ha ha. Ok.

I simply stated a fact that the death rate has dropped 90%. I’m sorry that upsets you.

I made no other claims or comments about other deaths nor did I make a claim about Trumps response nor my feelings about Trump.

The death rate has dropped 90%. It is what it is.

One thing we can all agree in here is we are aggie brothers and a great aggie sister in Tania and I hope in this crazy world that we can still treat each other with respect whether we agree or disagree.

Move the first 4 games to the end of the schedule. Push practice back 4 weeks also. Then reevaluate the situation.

Now you've got home games in Logan (which are traditionally largely attended bringing in much needed revenue) being played in late December and January in the peak of flu season and no students on campus. That doesn't sound like a good recipe for success. USU bears the burden of staffing up for games but will likely see minimal revenue. Heaven forbid there be inclement weather- you may see 100 people in attendance.

SPRING FOOTBALL. USU late season games become attendance breakers, not attendance shakers.

I still think there will be a season but masks will mandatory. The powers that be need to be able to show how serious they are taking it and masks are a tangible thing they can do.

CDC is estimating now that the infection mortality rate is 0.2% for Covid, and for reference, seasonal flu is 0.1%. Infection rates are skyrocketing due to massive increases in testing, in combination with the expected rate increase from post quarantine activity and mask/social distancing fatigue.

I would have no trepidation or angst in wearing a mask at games (if that truly helped and also afforded a higher comfort-level to others) and it safeguarded a way to get politics out of the message/delivery and afforded a chance for the season to move forward!

These kids have been working so dang hard (individually and creatively as brothers) since Jan and just want to get out on the field and compete; they all know the inherit and media highlighted physical dangers already encapsulating the game of football but they weigh the cons with the so many pros this polarizing game offers so many involved in its merits both on and off the field....Football brings communities together in so many ways!!

We have such brilliant minds afloat with our 'decision makers'; but dang quit the "paralysis of analysis"..for fear of being a vanguard. These kids have no issue with being tested, taking daily temps, or performing any of the safeguard practices in effect...The fans whom attend will need to adjust to these same safety practices for now and even if the attendance is fractionalized as we ALL navigate thru murky waters; its dang worth it is my .02 cents!

It may be silly analogies but if less than 1% of the class doesn't do their homework; do you penalize the whole room of people..or we all know driving a vehicle down our fav store minutes from home can be more statistically dangerous than Covid but we take common-sense precautions like (choosing safer vehicles<airbags>, wearing seat belts, maybe choosing to drive during the day if we can for better visibility, we don't text or use our cell phones, we adhere to speed limits and we don't drive impaired...) Does all that work 100% of the time; of course not but we all still PARTICIPATE (show-up) by driving and being as safe as we possibly can; controlling what we personally are able!!!

Interesting idea Mike How about splitting the season with 2 earlier games and 2 later events? Also look at the possibility of filling in an open date to rotate a possible late game into the regular season? I suggest we just don't have all the facts yet to make definite decisions.

When do you think we will have all the facts? A decision needs to be made ASAP - its already July and it's not like you can schedule an entire football season the week before.

With the current second round of lockdowns and all, I really don't see how they can play a season - and I think it will be devastating financially to a lot of schools. USU is already asking students to not come back on campus after Thanksgiving. The football players are students.

Re: I am starting to doubt it happens.....

As I understand it, most universities will be primarily online at least in the fall semester, and those who are on campus will start and end their on campus classes early. What downsides are there to delaying kick-off until February?

The things I can think of are:

1) Impatience - We all want football back now
2) Cold weather games early in the season instead of late (maybe a pro?)
3) Delayed revenue - But at least we'd still get revenue vs playing in empty stadiums
4) Two seasons in one calendar year, so shorter break break between seasons

I’m all for it if it means we get a football season.

Not a bad idea under the circumstances?

Would we start the 2021 season in the fall? What kind of impact would that have to have two seasons so close together on the athletes bodies? More injuries?

CDC is estimating now that the infection mortality rate is 0.2% for Covid, and for reference, seasonal flu is 0.1%. Infection rates are skyrocketing due to massive increases in testing, in combination with the expected rate increase from post quarantine activity and mask/social distancing fatigue.
Unfortunately nobody is talking about this.

I don't know that MORE injuries is necessarily a risk, but less time to recover from injuries would be. Also, the potential of draft likely players sitting out of the spring season?

Start practice January 4
Regular Season games played February 6 through May 8
Conference Championships on May 15
Army-Navy on May 22
Bowl Games condensed into two+ weeks, May 29 through Championship Game on Monday June 7

Or shift everything back one week and have the Championship game on Memorial Day

I saw an anonymous player survey and I thought players were against two seasons in one year. An athlete with a shot at the NFL, who was injured, played with a nagging injury, players recruited to a developmental pitch, or an athlete who wanted to change schools would all be against this. If you ask me, if the players say no, I would be against it.

****Edit. I guess many players would be ok with it, but it has a lot more players that wouldn’t play.

This is really good and important feedback to gather. I'd like to know how they selected their sample, or if it was not a true statistically valid survey I'd like to see a formal random sample survey of players, as ultimately they are the ones putting their bodies and careers at risk.

An idea to help with recovery time would be to play a full season in the Winter/Spring of 2021, Delay kick-off for the 2021 season until October/November, give everyone a mid-season 1-2 week break between semesters, then finish the season in Jan/Feb 2022 and get back on schedule for Fall 2022? It'd be a cold football season for sure, so not sure about that.
