Re: Mascot changes
I want UNLV to change their mascot for the sole reason that I won't have to hear "REEEEEBEEEEELLLLLS RRRREEEEBBBBEEEEELLLSSSS" ever again.

Stanford Indians lost their team name and mascot. It is wrong to discredit history for political gain.

Lost their friggin' minds about the same time. Them along with their funny cousins across the bay.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Re: Mascot changes
I found it funny today when I saw an article stating how the Quaker company was discontinuing the "Aunt Jemima" branding for their maple syrup - the name and the likeness were found to perpetuate stereotypical images of a bygone era that have no place in today's society (they had made half an effort to ease this a few years back when they took the kerchief tied around her head). No mention at all about the modern looking Quaker man on the oats package.

Fighting Whities was taken? Why not the Mormons? Dress up in suits with black name tags, nothing offensive though, amaright?
Indians like? From India? Where Indians are from? OH.. Native Americans... which tribe is their mascot? I'm sure they don't mind.
It's 2020... yea I know, no one is happy about that, but here we are.

Re: Mascot changes
I'm sure the Quaker's wouldn't mind being mascots for some college team, they can have all the Women dress in period clothing and churn butter to get the crowd all riled up! Tailgating on the back of a horse drawn buggy. No beer at the TG thoughYossarian wrote: ↑June 17th, 2020, 3:43 pmI found it funny today when I saw an article stating how the Quaker company was discontinuing the "Aunt Jemima" branding for their maple syrup - the name and the likeness were found to perpetuate stereotypical images of a bygone era that have no place in today's society (they had made half an effort to ease this a few years back when they took the kerchief tied around her head). Re: Mascot changes
I live in Salem, Oregon. Some of the high school mascots around here include: The North Salem Vikings, the McNarry Scotts, and the South Salem Saxons. As an Anglo-American person of pallor, I have to say I am deeply, deeply offended.

Re: Mascot changes
I like the Utah State Scotsman. Time to get rid of the Utah State aggies, we not longer are just a ag School in fact we do not even have a Vet degree, need to sent folks to Washington State to get that.

Re: Mascot changes
But Willy will be upset at him for making fun of the Scots! Apparently that's still okay, but not the Indians, no sir. Or the middle aged white men... or Dr. Nick (who ever he is).

This is true, my nephew is at WSU now after 2 years in Logan pursuing a vet degree.
Maybe we can be the "Half Aggies". Similar to half-assing something.

Gotta love the logo, representing the Hanford nuclear site where the first A-bombs were made.

I guess you are partially correct
The first "A-bombs" were developed and produced under the direction of Robert Oppenheimer at the Los Alamos National Lab in New Mexico.
The Gadget (trinity test 7/16/1945) was the first 1st nuclear explosion in history was an "implosion type" nuclear weapon that used plutonium 239 produced at the Hanford site
Little Boy (dropped - Hiroshima 8/6/1945) was the 2nd nuclear explosion in history was a gun-type fission weapon and used uranium 235 enriched at Oak Ridge National Lab in Tennessee.
Fat man (dropped - Nagasaki 8/9/1945) third nuclear explosion in history was an "implosion type" nuclear weapon used plutonium produced at the Hanford site.
Initially they wanted both bombs to be the simpler gun type weapon but impurities in plutonium produced in reactors required the use of the more complex un-proven implosion type weapon. Oppenheimer convinced the military they needed a test to ensure it worked. The military was hesitant to test it because they had spent so much money on the plutonium if it didn't work they were worried it would end the program.
I have had the opportunity to do a fair amount of work at many of the National Labs including Los Alamos, Berkeley, Hanford and Oak ridge among others.
I have been in the room at the omega site where many of their first tests were conducted and where Harry Daghlian (1945) and Louis Slotin (1946) accidentally irradiated themselves during critical mass experiments with the "Demon Core"
Fascinating to see what they were able to accomplish in such a short time with 1940s technology.
