What’s with the asymptomatic positives? Are they just testing everyone at this point whether they have symptoms or not?

Sounds like testing for all from my understanding, not just symptomatic athletes

Seems like any time 50-100 people are tested there are 3-5 asymptomatic positives if not more. I wouldn’t be surprised if every team uncovers a couple that have no or minimal symptoms

I have a friend that had no significant medical issues that is still using inhalers months after getting sick.

I have a friend who’s husband was on a ventilator in the ICU for 15 days. He may never fully recover.

I know people who have died.

I know an economy that may never recover because of Covid.

Everyone here is right.

It's dangerous... especially to people that are over 60. The mortality rates are very disproportionate based on age. We need to protect those in society that are vulnerable. I also think that as a society, we should focus a bit more on health. We have way to many people with commodities that are under 60. People do not respect their health and as such put themselves and ultimately society at risk.

Poverty is also a killer. People that lose their jobs, their ability to earn a living, that can be just as fatal as Covid. Domestic abuse is up, and almost everyone is earning less money right now. That's unsustainable as well. The poor have been disproportionately affected by the economics of Covid-19. That's messed up.

This conflict is why people are so damn angry right now.

I stand by my lighthearted statement of 12 asymptomatic college athletes testing positive for the Rona. I also wouldn't make that same statement about someone dying. Comparing these two scenarios would definitely be a false equivalency and searching for something to be offended about. Take it easy folks

And the solution is definitely to get college football back up and running.

Why is it bad? It's no damn different than any other scenario that is playing out across the country. Being a student-athlete is their "job". If you show up to your job and you are ill or you work where testing is going on and test positive, be responsible and take your a$$ home, quarantine, and get better.

It's bad because there's a massive difference between going to work at an office and practicing football. Every reputable study out that I've been able to find says proximity and heavy breathing are huge players in spread. Football is almost exclusively both of those things.

That said, I have yet to make the stance that I don't think practices should be happening. I think being smart, observing protocols, and making sure you have things under control is vital and important. Test and react when something turns up.

My issue is those who are flippant and downplay the issue because they don't believe it's an actual threat. We can both have what we want. Things can reopen and restart, and we can take it seriously to try to prevent things. Joking about how the illness will simply result in a loss of taste for a bit and it's worth risking our athletes health because statistically they're not likely to experience more than that rubs me the wrong way. They're putting their bodies on the line for you enough. You shouldn't be joking about "what's another potential preventable career ending injury."

Just my thoughts on it.

Testing would be a solid step. Additionally steps taken, I understand, were USU athletes were quarantined for 14 days once they arrived back on campus. No guarantees for the future, and certainly no understanding as to the short term long run health of the football team. Thank you Vi...

Shut it down. All college sports - shut them down. Online classes only is the new wave. No need for campuses. No need for funding athletic departments. If kids want to pursue a future in professional sports, there will be profiteers that will set up semi-pro or minor leagues for these. Individual sports (like most of your Olympic sports) will rely on clubs or personal professional trainers to prepare for qualifying events. This is the wave of the future. Universities don't want to take on the liability of someone getting sick and/or spreading a contagion at one of their sponsored events. And the citizens of the state shouldn't use state tax resources to fight claims against state institutions in lawsuits where someone got sick at one of their events where the event staff didn't wipe down handrails properly or screen event-goers for fevers or facemasks. This is the future - distance learning and over-the-top CYA safety measures.

I really don't want to get into a political debate because I do think both sides of the argument are valid. We have to take Covid-19 seriously while also monitoring the lives of people affected by the economy which leads to depression/suicide. It's a tricky scenario.

We could have started baseball by the end of May if both the owners and players union weren't completely incompetent at their jobs. MLB had the opportunity to get ahead of the other sports, be the only game in town, and maybe regain some fans they've lost over the years. Instead, they'll be coming back, at best, about the same time the NBA restart and playoffs suck up all the oxygen in August, then the NFL and college football will take over in September.

How many people were going to volunteer to be tested for a virus they had never heard of? Plus, as we've seen first hand, knowing millions of people have tested positive hasn't deterred the overwhelming call to open things up. We are a different culture than South Korea.

The more I think about it the more I’m convinced School presidents are going to pull a plug on sports for the year. Just like the politicians who blanketly closed down their entire states to save face, avoid blame, and not risk career suicide. You don’t get to be a school president without learning a thing or two about self preservation along the way.
