Sounds good f he comes to Logan, burning the Utes is just some nice icing on the cake.

Wow if true that would be great. Here is a little video about him from his freshman year.

Let me say this. If he does in fact transfer he will have some high level interest.

I know this is off topic... at the end of the video they show the players with a box to "light the U".
Does anyone know who had this idea first, USU or the Utes?

Seems like a cool dude, and clearly a talented player. If he comes up here, I'd be super excited! But, with possible NBA interest and the likelihood of other, higher-level programs calling... He's gotta do what he believes is best for him.

Would be a great get but I assume he’d have to sit a year unless the rule changes, correct? Does it make sense to transfer and sit if you felt you were close to being NBA draftable?

Gach lived in Minnesota for a time. That was prime recruiting grounds for Coach Smith and the boys while they coached in South Dakota.

Imagine how refreshing it’s gotta be for these Utah guys to go play for a coach that isn’t a little b#^*%?

With Gach, Utah is at the NCAA maximum of 13 scholarships for the 2020-21 season. It was reported by 247sports’ Evan Daniels earlier this week that Utah was among a handful of schools to contact Georgetown’s Mac McClung after the sophomore guard announced his intention to transfer.

I watched him play when my friend invited me to see Utah play Oregon.
He was by far Utah’s best player that game. Freak athlete that has a lot of talent. He would thrive under Coach Smith.

Yeah that's a rip off of Lighting the A. Just like BYU is building or already built their own version of Old Main.

Interesting.
As far as sitting out you’d think that playing for coach k would be considered a hardship.

That would be a very big pickup. Hope it happens.
Krysto is going to get fired after this next season. You can't keep losing your best players every year and sustain a program. He is turning into Jim Boylen.

Unfortunately I think Utah will do well enough next year that he won’t get fired. Unless they have more transfers. They have a very good recruiting class and some talented underclass guys returning.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑May 15th, 2020, 7:12 amThat would be a very big pickup. Hope it happens.

We'll see. Timmy Allen declared for the draft. Losing him and Gach are big losses for a team that wasn't good anyway. And I don't think Ian Martinez and Caleb Lohner are going to get you wins in the Pac right away.slcagg wrote: ↑May 15th, 2020, 7:23 amUnfortunately I think Utah will do well enough next year that he won’t get fired. Re: If Both Gach withdraws from the NBA draft he wants to play for Utah State
I don't think Timmy Allen will stay in the draft, at least he isn't on draft boards. But who knows. Timmy Allen, Jones I am 12 years old and the Martinez will be a good backcourt. Plus a bench of the kid from Millville and Lohner should be pretty good. Don't know who they have for bigs but most are projecting them to be pretty solid next year if Allen and Gach return. Gach obviously not returning.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑May 15th, 2020, 7:53 amWe'll see. Timmy Allen declared for the draft. Sources tell me Gach won't be the last player to transfer away from Utah in the near future. What a dumpster fire.

Does Both Gach realize USU is not even in the PAC-12? Mind boggling he'd even consider a lesser basketball program and conference.

USU is getting to the tourney niw Utes are not, not a big difference in programs, plus USU has Queta. The MW is a very good conference, very competitive with the PAC.Madmartigan wrote: ↑May 15th, 2020, 9:08 amDoes Both Gach realize USU is not even in the PAC-12? Didn’t the transfer rule get changed where sitting a year is no longer required?

Checking the twiiter on Both Gach's story, and it may have some truth to it.
Gach fellows people who are linked to Utah State and T. Barnes, and Gach follows Summit League colleges which is where Craig Smith used to be head coach before coming here.
Gach is also from Minnesota which is where Craig Smith is from.

Re: If Both Gach withdraws from the NBA draft he wants to play for Utah State
This was alluded to another thread, but after looking at Gath's stats and seeing he's a 25% shooter from 3pt area, it's weird that we get so excited about guys that shoot worse than Miller/Brito/Porter. And add to that his assist to turnover ration is 1:1. Having said that, I would be glad to land him IF he can defend like nobody's business. I think that's an area that us armchair coaches are missing when looking at potential recruits. Losing Sam and Brito is an area that leaves gaping holes in our perimeter defense.

Great point. Seems like we are getting a bit desperate for some good news on the recruiting front and getting anyone from a P5 seems like good news. I didn't watch 1 minute of UofU basketball last year so other than stats I have no basis for an opinion.Bank Shot wrote: ↑May 15th, 2020, 12:22 pmThis was alluded to another thread, but after looking at Gath's stats and seeing he's a 25% shooter from 3pt area, it's weird that we get so excited about guys that shoot worse than Miller/Brito/Porter. You do realize this kid has skills that the others you listed don’t have? Plus you’d 2-3 years to further develop him.Bank Shot wrote: ↑May 15th, 2020, 12:22 pmThis was alluded to another thread, but after looking at Gath's stats and seeing he's a 25% shooter from 3pt area, it's weird that we get so excited about guys that shoot worse than Miller/Brito/Porter. Gach would be a big time get for us. This has obviously changed now, but earlier this year Gach was showing up on NBA draft boards ahead of Merrill. He has a ton of natural athleticism, length, and talent.gomretat wrote: ↑May 15th, 2020, 12:29 pmGreat point. Ute fans lament that supposedly he basically checked out this year once it was evident that things with Utah bball weren't going anywhere and he wanted to be somewhere else (e.g Logan) even during the season.

If Abel Porter can play at Ohio State, this guy can play at Utah State.

Re: If Both Gach withdraws from the NBA draft he wants to play for Utah State
Thanks for the input, as obviously you have seen the kid play. It struck me at first as a strange set of choices. Either declare for the draft or sit out a year. I guess he just wants the heck out of Krystoville. I'm still under the impression that the transfer rule will not be changed this year and a waiver is pretty unlikely, and if he was already being considered an NBA prospect then I would think 2021-22 might be a one and done deal for us.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑May 15th, 2020, 12:45 pmGach would be a big time get for us. I like him. He seems to have a lot of different tools in his toolbox.
Most the Ute players are inefficient - so I think that's a symptom of the coach and system. Gach would become more efficient playing for Smith.

Re: If Both Gach withdraws from the NBA draft he wants to play for Utah State
I want Gach at USU, but to be fair (and I know I'll get criticism for this) but I don't think Porter can play at Ohio State. I'd be surprised if he plays meaningful minutes for them next year.
