On another note. It also looks like he was at west high in slc last year. I’ve always wondered why that school cannot be good at football.

I wonder if East High dominance has anything to do with it. If West High could keep their players they would probably be a powerhouse.

Utah high school football is all about who kids kids to come from out of the boundaries for the most part. Some programs have been built on cheating, some of had kids come in because of kids and families talk. Very few state title teams in Utah have only kids that live in their boundaries on the team. It is true in other sports as well.

Re: Commit from West High
As a graduate of East High School who played football over a decade ago (before we became what we are today) I can tell you that this is not the case. (At least not the driving case)
Believe it or not most of East’s players come from it’s own district. There’s a huge Tongan presence in the Glendale neighborhood which resides in East’s district.
As for West, they’ve struggled as a program for years. There are many reasons for it. Talent transferring to other schools is part of it, kids not qualifying academically is another. But even when they have talented teams, they haven’t ever really lived up to their potential. I think they have a hard time getting and keeping coaches there who can establish a winning culture. It’s a tough job.
Either way, there will always be D-1 level talent that comes from the Rose Park area that we can and should recruit from.

It was in the 60s. Orem stole a couple guys by arranging jobs for their dads: a rb from Box Elder and a tackle from Logan. You may remember the Logan kid. Olsen. Re: Commit from West High
Orem preceded Skyline. But, yes, Skyline was also a notorious recruiter, as player stayed with "cousins" within the Skyline boundaries. My first wife went to school with those guys during the years of Skyline's ascendancy (which, again, post-dated Orem's).AggieUprising50 wrote: ↑May 12th, 2020, 9:16 amI’d say Skyline started before anybody. Logan High was good at that also, kids like Taylor Compton, Chad Artist, and his brother, Sam Bennion etc. All those guys were in the Skyview borders. The 3 I mentioned were are D-1 scholarship kids that played on the same team.

Re: Commit from West High
Seems a bit under the radar. Wonder how much of that has to do with being in the middle of nowhere Louisiana through his junior year and then playing his senior year at a hs that hasn’t produced a lot of d1 talent recently. The guy is a mammoth of a man.aggies22 wrote: ↑May 12th, 2020, 12:07 pmFalepule will be a graduate of the class of 2020. His 247 page is interesting as there is a locked article about the LSU oline/dline camp standouts. Since it is on his page I’d assume he did well at that.
Do you know if oline or dline?

Re: Commit from West High
Mu son played on the Skyline high team when they won state in 1998. I was hustled by the school for money that year and wondered just what "Said Money" was going to be used for. Shortly after Skyline won state in football that year, there was enough blow back to pressure kids to begin to stay in their own school districts.
Skyline was a big time prep football school for many seasons, going back into the 70's., with a brief dry spell somewhere in that history.

I can see his face, but the name just escapes me. Both were a year ahead of me. Used to throw discus against Orrin. He was simply breathtakingly amazing at discus. Agree that the greased-up stint at Pwovo lessened Orrin's stock with the pros.

Skyline did have plenty of kids outside of their boundaries, but a large number of them were from when Jordan district was bussing kids out of the district to attend Churchill Jr High because of overcrowded schools in Jordan district.

Re: Commit from West High
with open enrollment and if the kids choose when they are freshmen is it really a big deal on where they go? each of those that went to logan enrolled when they were freshmen, which is legal. so are we talking legal, or just "recruiting" before the kids get to be freshmen. Each school in the valley have had kids go there that don't live in their boundries. The issue i always have is whether they transferred there correctly, or if they just got away with a transfer after the freshmen year.

This will date me a bit but I remember Judge Memorial doing this in late 80's. Seems like every good non-lds kid in the area was going to school there to play football. And there was definitely talk about how they recruited.aggies22 wrote: ↑May 12th, 2020, 8:27 amI'm willing to bet it all started with either East or Timpview.USU78 wrote: ↑May 12th, 2020, 7:54 amIt all started with Orem.
