Re: Oregon 3 game series
I like it. Tells me we are going away from "Money Games" in exchange for getting some better home games/potential upsets. Its a good step forward as a program.

Re: Oregon 3 game series
This is awesome. Too bad it is 7 years away as going to a game in Eugene is one of the bucket list stadiums to attend a game at. I can attend a game their against another opponent there, but excited to see the Aggies play there.

Re: Oregon 3 game series
Oregon played us in Logan around 2000 or 2001 I think when they had Harrington at QB.
They’ve definitely ascended as a program since then. This is exactly the type of OOC arrangement we should be pursuing.

Re: Oregon 3 game series
like GA said last year during the road tours, Utah will NEVER play us in FB again. Not until we're invited to join the PAC 14 anyway

I hope we NEVER offer something like that to the Utes. I would much rather see Oregon come to Logan. If Scotty's source is true, though, the Utes really are a bigger bunch of (I shan't express myself using vulgar language) than initially thought.

Re: Oregon 3 game series
Utah is a lower tier p5 than Oregon. They don’t have the money to do money games with g5 teams. They do home and homes. Oregon does have that money.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑April 28th, 2020, 12:17 pmI hope we NEVER offer something like that to the Utes. I would much rather see Oregon come to Logan. Perhaps this is Oregon's way of thanking Andersen for his time at Oregon St.

I don't like this, sorry. The setup is great, but we need to be playing mid level P5 not top of the conference.

Re: Oregon 3 game series
How do you know where Oregon will be in 2027?
In 2019 they finished 12-2
2018 -- 7-6
2017 -- 7-6
2016 -- 4-8

Re: Oregon 3 game series
I still remember that 2001 game in Logan. Two weeks previous we had gone to LSU and got kicked around (sound familiar?). Oregon was #6 in the country and Harrington was on billboards across the country as a Heisman candidate. It was 24-21 Oregon at the end of the 3rd qtr. and then the Ducks scored 14 in the 4th qtr to win comfortably. I don't think the Aggies had won a game to that point.Intermeddler wrote: ↑April 28th, 2020, 10:47 amOregon played us in Logan around 2000 or 2001 I think when they had Harrington at QB.

Just wait National Championship contenders when we play them. We always seem to find a way to play teams when they are having some of their better years.

Re: Oregon 3 game series
I just double checked.
2024 Ohio State has open spots there.
2025 Oklahoma State has an open spot.
2026 Oregon State has an open spot.
So it could happen

Re: Oregon 3 game series
Based on some of the success we’ve had since 2012, I’m sure Barnes & Hartwell both had difficulty trying to get Indiana and Missouri on the schedule.slcagg wrote: ↑April 28th, 2020, 3:02 pmJust wait National Championship contenders when we play them. We lucked into a matchup with a downtrodden Tennessee team and still got embarrassed!
The close losses to A&M, Wisconsin, Auburn a decade ago will not guarantee us future Ws against middle of the pack P5s. That said, I don’t think trying to forecast who will be a 6-6 Big10 team in 7 years and trying to schedule them is a good approach.
If I’m Hartwell, I’m inking deals with any P5 that will do a home & home like Washington State, or any one-offs on the road with big name P5s that are willing to give us a payday.
I think the 2 for 1 with Oregon is great.

Re: Oregon 3 game series
The best part of this deal is that it sounds like it's two separate deals, a home and home and a money game. We do a money game anyway in 2029 (Oregon that year), so we essentially got a home and home deal with a top P5 team, which is pretty splendid. Granted, the money game probably isn't going to be $2M, but I would have expected a straight up 2-for-1, so bonus cash.

Re: Oregon 3 game series
When we do play Oregon will we also have to play another money game along with it? Along with playing byu and boise every year that could a very tough schedule. Sounds like the chuck shelton years. Tough for any coach to do.

Re: Oregon 3 game series
Guaranteed Oregon backs out pays the fee for our home game in this scenario just as Utah did with our home game sometime back

Re: Oregon 3 game series
Washington State isn't really a money game though. We had to agree to add them this year in order to get the home and home series going.

Re: Oregon 3 game series
A money game at Washington, at BYU, Washington State at home and a FCS team in Logan, that is a tough OOC. I really like the 2021 through 2023 schedules with a weaker OOC team like UConn or NMSU, although the weaker teams don’t have to be as bad recently as those two teams have been. Arkansas State was another example of a team I liked to see on the schedule. I know a lot of people didn’t like the matchup, but I see BYU as a team above our level of Athletic Department and would like a team below to balance the schedule. So my ideal schedule has the @Oregon Game matched with a home game against FCS team one year and a G5 the other year. (Counting one game as part of a home and home and the other as a revenue game). I do think we need to worry Oregon will try to back out of the game they are scheduled to play in Logan. I hope the contract makes the games played in Eugene pay the going rate Iowa or Alabama pay for the same type of games if they back out of their trip to Logan.

I think Oregon will return the game just to get us to return to Eugene in 2029.Full wrote: ↑April 29th, 2020, 10:43 amA money game at Washington, at BYU, Washington State at home and a FCS team in Logan, that is a tough OOC. Re: Oregon 3 game series
Good thought "flying". It has the trappings of a home and home and then a money game. I would expect Oregon honors a trip to Logan as the time line and room to adjust schedules is short.flying_scotsman2.0 wrote: ↑April 28th, 2020, 4:42 pmThe best part of this deal is that it sounds like it's two separate deals, a home and home and a money game. Re: Oregon 3 game series
I think this is a good set up; home and home and a money game. About as good a deal as your ever going to get with an upper tier P5.
As for Utah, be patient, grasshopper. We need to focus on ourselves. Let me paint you a picture. The U continues to beat BYU. Six years from now, the series over the last 15 years is 15-0 for Utah. Meanwhile, the Aggies continue to edge past BYU. Over the previous 6 years, USU has gone 5-1 over BYU. At the same time, Utah State has won two MWC championships. We're now in 2026, and Utah State is favored for the MWC championship, and Utah is favored for the PAC-12 south championship. At this point, the fans, the local media, and yes, even the state legislature are itching for a head to head to resolve the issue.
Rosy scenario? Absolutely. Probably won't happen. But it is the only way to make the series resume. At that point, Utah drops BYU from their schedule, and the Battle of the Brothers resumes. BYU starts a new "Holy War" with Liberty.
