Does anyone miss the NBA?
My interest in NBA basketball had been diminishing steadily for about 15 years or more before this pause in the season. I follow the Jazz somewhat from out of state and watch parts of games when they are on TV, if I don't have anything better going on. But I really don't watch any other games. I see highlight clips on occasion and check standings on occasion, but I really haven't even missed NBA basketball at all. The league could go away completely and my life would not be affected. I really missed the NCAA tournament this year and I hate not having major league baseball playing, but I'm completely indifferent toward the NBA. Am I alone?

None
On a side note, I've been hearing that one my neighbors is a member of the Clippers... I finally saw him out walking is his Clippers warm up gear, the dude was like 7' tall.

Ivica Zubac maybe? Or was he more “athletic” looking (aka African decent)ViAggie wrote:None

NBA. That’s a funny word. Wait, is it an acronym?

I dont really get the constant dogging on the NBA here. It seems weird for a sports forum.

Re: Does anyone miss the NBA?
I’ve followed the nba closer the past three or so seasons more than I have the ten before it. I can see a lot of people’s disdain for the league, but I’ll enjoy a game when they’re on. So yes, I miss it currently. I miss everything though.

I didn’t realize watching how many sticks of gum a fat, non-athletic person can fit in his mouth at one time while constantly adjusting his manhood is a sport.

Re: Does anyone miss the NBA?
Ah, yes, the old "baseball players are not athletes" argument. Aside from the fact that hitting a baseball off a major league pitcher is the most difficult skill in all of sports, I guess you have a point. Here's a few clips of these fat non- athletes:
I see your point. This stuff is boring. Uncoordinated, non- athletes for sure.

Re: Does anyone miss the NBA?
A little oversensitive to sarcasm? Everyone has their own interests, so I’m happy that you (and many others) enjoy baseball so much. I am sure there are plenty of things that I like that others wonder how anyone could like that so much. Who cares? I personally have a hard time finding interest in watching a pitcher looking at the catcher point at his nuts for 20 minutes while they decide if the pitcher will throw the ball over the plate or not. I am fully aware that others like it (the actual game—not my nut joke) so hopefully all of this virus stuff will pass and MLB (along with other sports) will start soon!

Re: Does anyone miss the NBA?
Yeah even when I am not following it I enjoy having a game on in the background. The Jazz being good makes it fun too. I have mostly lived out of the state of Utah the last few years and I've become more of a Jazz fan out of Utah. Although the last month might have changed that a little bit haha. Some middle aged women who are not sports fans in the slightest talking about Rudy Gobert excited me at first until I realized why his name was on their mind.

Re: Does anyone miss the NBA?
I've never really understood how people love college basketball and trash the NBA. Sure my first love is Utah State basketball and I'd rather watch an Aggie game than any NBA game. In general though the NBA is a far better product. Your average college basketball team can't make baskets.GoldcoastAggie wrote: ↑April 9th, 2020, 4:54 pmI dont really get the constant dogging on the NBA here. It seems weird for a sports forum.

Fanhood doesn't follow the better product. It follows the heart. I hate the NBA. I understand it is better play, I just don't connect with it. I loved the Aggies even when Duryea was coach. I follow my heart.

Re: Does anyone miss the NBA?
Yes, I definitely miss the NBA. It's so good. It's my favorite sports product out there. You see the players faces so it feels more personal, there are relatively few on the court, they are freakishly athletic, constant scoring, so many ways to score, great atmosphere in big games. It's great. I'm pretty bummed about the Mitchell/Gobert rumors though.

Re: Does anyone miss the NBA?
It depends. Obviously we all have an emotional connection to USU and love USU basketball. However the NBA became extremely popular in the 80's and 90's because of so many exciting players from Bird to Magic to Jordan to Dr J, and on and on. The game was a great product and people responded to it. I wouldn't call myself a Michael Jordan fan, but you go almost anywhere in the world and you'll see kids wearing Michael Jordan jerseys. The quality of the product created fans everywhere.

Re: Does anyone miss the NBA?
Agreed. Either change the way the game is called or give players a sixth foul. Fouls are so subjective and in college depth is usually pretty thin. Games should not be win out list based on whether Dave Hall is having a bad night.TrueAG wrote:Yes, besides USU basketball and the NCAA Tourney, college ball is horrible. The NBA does nothing for me, I hate run and gun with no or very little plays set up.

Officials control the game more in the nba. Breathe on Jame Harden while he jumps five feet forward and he gets three free throws.TrueAG wrote:Yes, besides USU basketball and the NCAA Tourney, college ball is horrible. Officials completely control the game.
The NBA is great If you like watching free throws.

Not to mention, they never call traveling in the NBA. I could be pretty good too if I could take 3 steps after picking up my dribble.2004AG wrote: ↑April 12th, 2020, 9:23 pmOfficials control the game more in the nba. At this point I even miss golf, so yes, I miss the NBA, MLB, MLS, and not having March Madness felt like a vasectomy without lidocaine.

No kidding! My doc gave me a valium and a leather strap and said, "Bite this. If you want. Whatever." I think maybe he had a valium, too.Yossarian wrote: ↑April 13th, 2020, 11:36 amThat was an option?hipsterdoofus21 wrote: ↑April 13th, 2020, 9:41 amAt this point I even miss golf, so yes, I miss the NBA, MLB, MLS, and not having March Madness felt like a vasectomy without lidocaine.

Re: Does anyone miss the NBA?
NBA died when they stopped allowing defense. 1990s NBA was the best (even if low scoring).
Now the NBA is just launching endless 3 pointers, and 1 on 1 isolation ball. Fewer offensive sets. Centers are no longer dominant players.
It's boring to watch.

Re: Does anyone miss the NBA?
I disagree partly. I hated the illegal defense calls of the 90's. They basically made zone defense illegal which ushered in an era of ISO ball. The current NBA does have problems though. They call too many fouls for one, but that is the same direction college basketball has moved in. The Nevada Utah State game in 2019 while a lot of fun to see USU win, was also one of the worst games to watch from a basketball perspective. It seemed like every play down a foul was called.Tetonkatest wrote: ↑April 22nd, 2020, 10:43 amNBA died when they stopped allowing defense. 1990s NBA was the best (even if low scoring).

As for the shooting I would much rather watch guys who can drain shots from all over the court than the alternative. Outside of USU basketball (where I am emotionally attached) the college game just isn't a good product because so many teams just can't make shots.
